Hi peeps,
Hope you are all well. I am excited about the current model output but the above has struck me a bit. If our cold is going to come from the east then the above temperature for Siberia canβt be right on the app for next week. I know the apps are never right the change more times in a day to be honest, but thought I had to add this as it seemed not rightΒ
Anyway let the upgrades keep coming fingers crossed itβs on its way.
have a great evening all
Snow fix imminent for me as I arrive midday Tuesday I won't mention where but it looks like back here in the UK we won't have problems drawing on a cold enough source of air across the North Sea! Hopefully it will help counteract the warm SSTsΒ

Very little in the way of snow from that. Look at the air pressure associated which is over 1035 even in the South. Maybe a few 'grains' on the coast but basically bone dry albeit freezing cold!
Get slightly more N of E flow and Thames and Humber streamers will set up my fave type

The Scandanavian angle is about to get a whole lot colder, heading West too.

Seeing as no-one wants to talk about Stockholm I'll play Grinch this morning I bring you GFS 0z thats not been mentioned yet continuing its previous runs of shortening the cold spell doesn't bother me as I'll be back to work on the 6th and mainly work outside having had my snow fix in the pine forests of our viking ancestors

tl;dr: it might snow next Thursday, it might not. GFS is overdoing lows and underdoing heights. JMA wants Narnia, as usual, and someone is going to Stockholm. Other than that, as you were.Β
Thats OK I'll start mentioning my next break in Anglia land instead

Was a great event here, possibly not for the far SE.Β
East London was the Sweetspot followed by Essex then SE London and NW Kent next best my area had about 4inches

In parts of Kent we got 5 inches of snow in a couple of hours one Sunday night from a channel low which moved North.Β Some of the heaviest snow I have ever seen.Β Then it stuck around for a week.
Remember it well I was shovelling for over 5hours at my work place it started the moment I started work had about 4.5inches in NW Kent

It could be better the trough is too far northwest,no real flow there..most the cold being moved north
Remember what a certain member mentioned about a slack flow though
GFS at t144 slightly less good in our vicinity 0z vs 18z I'd say with less cold 850s in the East and the pattern slightly further north. But blocking more extensive above Scandi.
GEM also has the low further north but more clean blocking to our NW

I don't think it is that rare for Stockholm and very late November, but what is rare is the continuous cold and the subzero temperatures for as long as the models predict. That is rare.
By the way, it looks like just north of Stockholm all the SnΓΆkanon(lake effect from the Baltic Sea) will take place. A probably remarkable event, GFS predicts more than 50mm for the next week and probably it will be more (usually local models predict better these situations than global ones). So maybe record snow for those areas for that time of the year? It will be interesting to follow up.
I'm staying NW of Stockholm. Β

GFS 06z is probably one of the coldest model runs that I have seen for my area and southern Scandinavia.Β
Β
My first day in Stockholm on most models and ensemble suites Tuesday is showing a max of -5c and heavy snow I wonder when the last time that happened in November was?

Itβs a fair comment to make though. I think people forget that the MET have private business interests supplying groups like railways and airlines. They have to be accurate. My dad works for the rail, I donβt believe snowfall till he tells me he has had the email at work.
I might know your dad then he will def know some of my colleagues if he's in the area

Compared to the ECM 00z, does bring in the Atlantic a lot quicker, the lows probably phase, and also heights increase around the Balkans, sending all of that stuff here. However quite the frontal snow event north of the M4.
The day I head north of the M4 to go to those pine forests of East Anglia

Unfortunately a cold rain fest for most but enjoy it in your IMBY place as I will in Sweden
