    Oh my, it's raining something proper here this morning, I got woken by a huge rumble of thunder and then the rain was hammering like I haven't seen in years. There's a big puddle outside the back door. I heard a crash, My bird feedering station has managed to topple over the ground has gotten so saturated! The feeders are now residing in said huge puddle!

    It's trying to storm here in East Kent, had a few flashes of lightning nearby and rumbles of thunder, the wind is increasing too.

    Frosty start here in Dover, it's not taking the sun long to erase it though! It's about 4c now. I can't check my garden thermometer as it appears to have gotten stuck at 10c - drat!

    we had the heat on for the second time this evening for an hour. If it was up to me and we had the money it would be on constant from end of september to end of march every year lol

    Seems like quite a significant increase in snow cover for october 12th especially in Russia!

    Gains in the Alps, scandinavia and siberia today. The ice appears to be making a mad dash towards reaching some coasts also!

    I can't remember where this cam is, but I'm pretty sure it's in Swedish Lapland http://img804.imageshack.us/img804/9831/c1aktuell.jpg It's been snowing there like that for much of the day! Very pretty.

    We put our heating on last night for the first time for an hour or so to take off the chill. I expect it'll be on again today as the high is only 13c. it's 12c right now!

    I posted the previous years alongside the current years then for a comparison that showed we are slightly down so far this year but it's certainly getting going now! Here's todays.

    I thought I'd wait for you to post it Cyclonic. Definitely snow in the Alps! And plenty in scandinavia today too. tonights map will be quite different I'm sure.

    Seems to be some gains with no huge losses today.

    All the weather sites seemed to suggest it was 28c here at 3pm. 27c now. I'm not so sure it is true or not as today feels much more comfortable than it did yesterday.

    Brrr that's going to be a shock to the system if it comes off after the current unseasonable heat.

    I'm personally not looking forward to the warm spell, but here in East Kent near the sea it'll probably not get that warm.

    It's not cold enough for us to put ours on yet. It's way too expensive to use (and I thought combi condensing boilers were supposed to be efficient!). it's reserved for the coldest of times.

    Wow love the snow cams thank you for sharing those. It does seem quite early but they are at quite a high altitude I guess.

    MeteoF that is a very interesting read. How good these people are I don't know but interesting nonetheless.

    I don't regret it either! It's good fun to keep track of where it is snowing and watching as the cold grows ever closer to us over the coming weeks.

    Last winter the snow stopped coming about a week before the day and it was pretty much all melted on Christmas day, there were only a few frozen spots on the grass left over. It was one of those long, slow and painful thaws. I am hoping for a white christmas this year, it was so close last year! What I always hope for is an East Kent streamer, those always give this area a good dumping of around a foot in the valleys and even more on top of the hills/cliffs.

    Today was a much better day than yesterday with some sunshine, The wind took down a few trees apparently two or three blocks on the Dover - Canterbury rail line yesterday. walking to town this morning there was one down at the bottom of the street being chopped up and turned to sawdust. looking like Hurricane Katia will be making a U-Turn shortly and will start heading towards the UK likely clipping Scotland/Ireland. That could turn out to be pretty stormy next week.
