It might be that they want to get the worst effects of Dudley out the way first. If there was a mixed message or any ambiguity some people here might get confused and not prepare for what is happening today. We still have 48 hours in which to ramp up messaging for Eunice, which I would expect would be done rapidly from tonight.

Storm Dudley has arrived in Glasgow and it’s pretty wild. Some of these gusts are pretty mean and being in an exposed tenement I can feel the building shake in the stronger ones. A fair few trees and the likes will not be surviving this one.

I think it's clear that Storm Eunice will likely have bigger impact than this one, and it will be further south, impacting more densely populated areas.
This storm is still being taken seriously enough for all train services throughout most of Scotland to be halted from 16:00 onwards tomorrow.

There is sod all chance of getting anyone in Glasgow to take seriously a storm called Dudley.

A full week away, but having been in the model thread there's a suggestion of a very big storm coming our way. One to keep an eye on.

Her fella is a tree surgeon though so he's working from dawn until dusk, seven days a week.
Looks very very Stormy next week, which suits me fine.
Looks like Angus would hopefully be spared the worst, but the Western Isles, parts of Argyll and even into the Glasgow area would receive some very high winds - even looking across the Central belt it would be very windy indeed. Surely Red warning stuff given the population.
Obviously more runs needed to confirm, and we may well find it downgraded, but I'd suggest we are in for a stormy time here next week?

Just shame we have to wait so long for the clocks to change. We are already at the point where if we changed the clocks now sunset would still be later than at the point when they went back in October.
If we did that then here in Glasgow it would be dark until after 9am still - further north would be worse.
But yes, definite change in afternoon light now. Still have some light at 5pm here.

We are guaranteed to get colder spells up here into the spring. Used to feel quite discombobulating with the brighter nights combining with nagging cold, but you get used to it. They'll probably come around after the first really nice spell of spring that makes you hope for continued sunshine and warmth through to summer, making it doubly as harsh.

That is the broken line that is leaving us still without power, so decamped to Aberdeen once again with the kids.
Strong gusty winds, occasional rain showers and milder than of late at 9c.
Edit, regarding the extreme tree loss, farmer neighbour was given an explanation by a visiting ecologist that trees root system round here are weaker than usual thanks to the droughts a few years ago killing of some of the root mass (supposedly takes 5yrs for them to recover).
That's quite interesting - sad and unfortunate as well - when were the droughts up there?
My partner has occasionally shown interest in schemes to buy land and plant trees on it. It evidently isn't without risk, not to mention the possibility of losing all or the bulk of it to a storm. Would be interested in finding out more about these things.

Feel bad for those without power in the North East, you’ve been battered this winter. Also feel lucky as living in a big city power cuts are pretty much unheard of.
But in terms of wider weather chat I’m starting to think we’d be as well looking to spring now.

Mixed feelings about this winter.
Its not been great for cold and snow, but the saving grace is that temps are staying in single figures, whilst we are still, despite a lot of the gloom here, still getting better sunshine than many other winters (someone might clarify that at the end of the month).
In the absence of some proper cold and snow, I’ll take it for now.

1) December 2010 - For the amount of snow, severe low temps and repeated reloads of snow/cold in the Glasgow area and across Scotland. Pretty sure Glasgow recorded around -14c in mid morning one day in early December.
2) Closely followed by Dec09/January 2010 which was effectively a precursor for what was to come the following year. When the thaw came we thought we’d had our fun for the next decade
3) Feb/March 2018 - The Beast from the East delivered epic snow for the Glasgow area which prompted a red weather warning across the Central Belt. Drifts of several metres recorded on the northern outskirts of Glasgow as we got near continuous snow off the Firth of Forth for about 24 hours.
4) Hurricane Bawbag Dec 2011 - another red weather warning, nestled in among a series of storms that seemed to batter western Scotland around that time. The people of Glasgow decided to respond with humour but it was one of the most severe and dangerous weather events I can recall here.
5) Big freeze Jan 1987. I was very young but I got time off school and it seemed to be an endless time of fun in the snow. Possibly only lasted a week, but I was 5 years old. My first experience of big snowfall.

Yes Glasgow City Council are consistently caught out by this type of weather. I get that they can’t deal with everything but this isn’t a one off. They won’t be slow to take to Twitter and get the excuses out though.

In fairness I don’t think massive amounts of snow have fallen and I don’t think there’s anything warranting any more than a yellow met office warning. Traffic problems are down to local authorities having not prepared for it adequately meaning main roads are left slushy and slippery.

Snowing, and lying, in the south side of Glasgow. If the radar says sleet here I can confirm it’s definitely snow.

Might we be seeing the first sightings of a 2010 or 2018 scenario? Would love to go back and see the initial posts that spotted those trends.

Did somebody mention snow?
I’m stuck inside as the covid has finally got me, it’d be nice to watch a wee blizzard out the window later this week!
What sort of clouds are they? I’m in the south side and haven’t seen anything like that today.
