I think the gloom comes from the fact that the models performed so badly. There will be a feeling that the next time that cold weather is predicted by the models, it can’t be trusted.

Have to be honest here and say I’m losing all hope of any meaningful cold over the next week. We might get a few days along the lines of today, but with sun, but that looks about it. The milder days are expanding and the cold days are diminishing.

Yeah have to say I’m getting a worse and worse feeling about this as time goes on. A few days ago the Norwegian met were showing Ice days here later this week, now 10c for this Thursday which is a crazy turnaround. I’m presuming that low in the Atlantic is coming for a visit.
It does still want to put us in the freezer, a high of -4 on the Monday after Xmas, but the way it’s being shoved back all the time doesn’t give me hope. Maybe it’s all just models and their struggle with a battleground scenario.
Actually now showing mild throughout the forecast period. I see some in both the main and the Scottish model threads still holding out hope. I wish I had your faith.

Aye I’ve given up on that thread now. Winters done because it might rain next week in Wiltshire.
Any scope for a Scottish model thread in this here group of ours?

Love how everyone in the Glasgow area is predicting pretty much the same.

Cracking sunset pics. Been very dull and overcast in Glasgow today. Very mild too.
Interesting watching the model runs and forecast for next week. Just grateful that it’s going to be seasonal if I’m honest.

Sounds like a pretty standard winter storm so far.

I’m not sure he has any actual say on what the weather will do.
Exactly. Everyone knows that it’s Sean Batty who decides the weather.

Very heavy rain in Glasgow for 20-30 minutes there, accompanied by a very long rumble of thunder. Dark and incredibly driech, the weather I recall as a child going to school!
Last of the rain cloud just coming through with blue sky beyond but looks like more rain behind it.

Quite chilly out there today, 5c and tomorrow aside the highs are not scheduled to get above that. It feels like winter now.

The slightest of slight evidence of some overnight snow in Glasgow. Some small patches on verges and, oddly, astroturf (ie all weather) football parks.

This is quite sad. I was in Findhorn last week and there were some lovely wooded areas just back from the sand dunes. Really hope they’ve survived relatively intact.

Just as I say that the first notable gust has hit…

Yep, remarkably clear in the West of Scotland this morning. Looks pretty stunning out there.

Nice to see this place busy with some excitement.
@Northernlights I was up your way last week, along at Findhorn. Lovely setting there and was pleasantly surprised by how picturesque it is up there, especially as it’s not far until you’re up on the Dava Moor which is so bleak.

2010 late November into December saw a great snow event for the Glasgow area with repeated top ups and some *exceptionally* cold temperatures. Frequently down past -15c at night and not even close to freezing during the day.
Severe cold such as what we saw then is about a once a decade event on average. We’ve not really seen it since so id say we’re due one.

Laughing at the folk arriving in Glasgow for COP26 referring to the current weather related disruption as ‘the consequences of climate change’.

Some very heavy bursts of rain in Glasgow tonight.

Very pleasant in the sun today in Glasgow, while it shone. Was back to grey gloom in the afternoon.
Depressingly mild stuff coming up which usually means dreich murk at this time of year. It’s good if winter actually feels like wi yet, although we all know nature doesn’t always pay attention to the calendar.
