  1. Been asleep all night up until now so I think there’s probably not been any rain or storms through here. A check of the radar shows a big blob to the east covering most of East Central Scotland and the borders, looks like being v heavy. Been a couple of faint rumbles here in past 10 mins, the rain comes on periodically but not heavy. It’s mostly missing here although radar suggest some rain possibly developing over inland Ayrshire which could pass over here provided it doesn’t wishbone.
  2. Some of the pics and stories of these storms look and sound amazing. Hope those that experienced them enjoyed. Amazingly this part of Glasgow was almost entirely untouched whilst the storms moved either side of us. There was some brief moderate rain, and a few cracks of thunder - one quite loud which might have been connected to the lightning by the M77 that was referred to - but that was basically it. The angle that the lines of storms moved at meant that we were in th dry zone whilst 10-15 miles either side would have been a different story. Interested to hear from anyone with knowledge/info on why the storms moved in such a way.
  3. Some loud rumbles of thunder in Glasgow and a wee bit of steady rain for a while. Brightened up here briefly with a gap in the cloud. Radar suggesting where I am is probaby in the gap between the lines of precipitation. Seem to be traveling at the same angle as the line is tilted, so some places will get drenched whereas others will miss out entirely, possibly within a few miles of each other.
  4. I forecast you'll wish you'd had a hotel booked or you by the weekend.
  5. Interesting. I dd hear a big rumble of thunder in the south side of Glasgow at lunch time. What time in the evening are we talking?
  6. Apparently Storm Miguel is coming from Spain? Me no gusto!
  7. Bucketing down now in the south side of Glasgow
  8. I'm not sure I go along with what you're saying there @Northernlights - here in the west the three days of rain and then a bit of sun is how many a summer has panned out. While we all tend to remember the warm and sunny summers the best, I can also recall times when it seemed like all of western Europe including much of England were basking, yet here in Scotland, and particulatly western Scotland, we were getting repeated soakings. Whilst the rain recently has been remarkable for how heavy it has tended to be - and there you may have a point - I'm not feeling anything entirely out of the ordinary about this year so far. However, you working with the land and around the weather, and being in your location, may contribute to the difference in our perspectives here.
  9. Son poking through the clouds in Glasgow which is a massive improvement on the past few days. Some heavy bursts of rain have passed through which although probably needed and have topped the river level up here was pretty dull and dreich. Today looks to be the best we will get for a while. Might need to be patient for some warm and sunny stuff this year. Everyone moans about the rain but we have to put up with it sometimes, we'd really miss it otherwise.
  10. Very heavy stuff along the clyde coast by the looks. Some rain heading towards the Glasgow area from the SE just now - we actually could do with it.
  11. Just glad that the biting cold wind has dissipated a bit here. It was baltic at times over the past few days. A nice taste of warmth coming at the right time for us I think.
  12. Looks very interesting and stormy over the next couple of days, looking forward to it provided it stays within reason!
  13. If it was the post I'm thinking of there was nothing vile about it. Pretty standard chat in Scotland.
  14. Should be good for posting in the model thread.
  15. In order to convince myself of how things can change in the forecast, went back to last years thread and found this post by yourself heralding the first signs of the beast... So that gives me some hope. Obviously not expecting the beast to return or anything like it, I still ended up getting lost in that thread and reminiscing about the event - got a nice little reminder of how my work still wanted us to go in the day after...
  16. Had some moderate snow here earlier, didn't settle, seemed to turn to rain within an hour. Hoping some of you are right when you say there should be more chances later in the winter.
  17. No lying snow in this part of Glasgow. Back to thinking that last year used up our snow quota for this winter as well. Even tomorrow seems to be a bit of snow for a couple of hours followed up by an emphatic lashing of rain.
  18. Just to point out, despite seemingly been under the pink on the radar for the past hour or so, in this part of Glasgow we've had nothing more than flurries, and certainly no lying snow. When I see pics of heavy snow that is settling elsewhere in the city it's not good.
  19. We have some snow flurries in the south side of Glasgow! Get it up ye naysayers. Get it right up ye.
  20. The big blob of snow I referred to earlier has, in albeit much reduced form, reached the campsies. There's hope for us yet! I absolutely have not watched it the whole way.
  21. That was my own thinking to be fair. Wishbone effect will be in full effect no doubt. It's making a decent first of it though.
  22. Radar shows a big blob of snow making it's way due south over the Western Highlands - what's the chances that might just survive long enough to get the Glasgow area later?
  23. -7c in Glasgow. Beautiful sunny crisp day out there. Just a shame we're not getting in on any of the snow.
  24. Pretty sure today was an ice day in Glasgow. Any idea why my post from earlier was deleted?
