  1. So are we quite confident of some widespread snowfall on Thursday then?
  2. Similar here to the rest of the central belt. Very thick black ice out there. Roads appear negotiable but pavements are awful.
  3. Prediction for the next few hours for Glasgow seems to be 1c and rain. Sort of sums up this chilly spell.
  4. Happy new year to everyone in the Scotland thread. Not ventured outside yet and unlikely to given that it’ll be dark in half an hour....
  5. It’s raining in Glasgow. Temp is -1. edit- according to the radar it’s rain right across the central belt?
  6. Never ceases to amaze me the different perspectives you can see Whitelee from. There’s much of the South side of Glasgow, even the city centre. But I saw it from Mugdock the other week. Pretty sure you could see it from the Campsies on a clear day, possibly Goat fell too?
  7. Nice one, I’m south side too but at no elevation so here’s hoping
  8. I’d be delighted if you’re right mate. I’d personally be surprised if we see anything other than rain here. Even if it is -1c here just now.
  9. All rain in near sea level Cathcart so far, but saw some wet snow in Clarkston earlier.
  10. Nothing to see here. Wet ground, think showers have been of rain.
  11. Just to echo others on that fantastic post @LomondSnowstorm - let’s see how we do here. NW should be decent but got some concerns about my lack of height here (30 m asl) and the shielding hills of Argyll which could gobble up all the snow! still though, nice to have some seasonal weather coming up. Apologies for my previous grinch posts, probably spending too much time with the fantasists in the model thread. some amount of rain has fallen here today, hoping it becomes snow before too long.
  12. I’m sorry guys but are we getting excited about snow in Aviemore and Braemar? Forgive me being such a grinch but I mean that’s something that should happen numerous times per winter, no? Shows how bad it’s getting nowadays.
  13. I spat the dummy out on the model thread the other day. Made the mistake of believing them this week and it all, unsurprisingly went to pot. Now they’re all excited about a few days later, then a few days after that.....
  14. Because I’m usually only in Scotland thread, but decided to come in and see what was happening in the run up to Xmas. I started following earlier this week when the optimistic posts about Xmas were around, I thought that those posting will know their stuff and that it was worth paying attention to, and it was backed up for a couple of days by forecasting. But this seems to have disappeared or, at best, been put back by days again. I’m genuinely not trying to be contrary. If anything it’s exasperation at how optimism seems to go the same way, always.
  15. Only people will have forgotten as when the time comes the same posts will be getting made about another ten days time. I get what everyone is saying about patterns, trends etc, but until I see it forecasted on met office, BBC, my iPhone weather app or even the Norwegian met, then I’m not buying it I’m afraid. Accompanying these excited posts are forecasted highs of 4c in glasgow on 23rd and 24th. Frigid it absolutely is not. Why does everyone fall for this still?
  16. I see all the excited posts in the model forum, but nowhere is that reflected in any forecasts. I just see at best a couple of days with max of 3 or 4c for Glasgow. Hardly bitterly cold, our ave Dec high is 6c. Where is this optimism coming from?
  17. More optimistic posts, this time about Xmas eve, but on every forecast I’ve seen we get a day or two at 4c max then back to average winter fare of about 6c - hardly bitterly cold.
  18. Lots of positive sounding posts and charts being posted, but until I see snow falling and settling with my own eyes, and feel the raw wind on my face, I believe nothing.
  19. I recall the River Clyde froze in central Glasgow during this spell, and a mid morning temp of around -14c in the city the day after the first big snow fall. Was actually just commenting in the Scotland thread that significant sub zero temps and ice day events are typically around once a decade here. Can recall 2010, 2009, 2002 (or at least early 2000s one year had a short cold spell between Xmas and New Year), 1995 and of course 1987. That makes me reckon we’re here overdue another one for Central Scotland.
