  1. So I’m starting to think, unless we get a surprise snowfall (which have occurred here in the past few weeks), our snow fun might be over in Glasgow. Every time I look at the forecasts the snow has been pushed back again, it’s the short term equivalent of day 10 in the models.
  2. Similar here. There was wet snow last night but no covering whatsoever. A few miles and a couple of hundred metres elevation up the road and Newton Mearns is plastered seemingly.
  3. Snowing at low level on the South side of Glasgow now. Quite light and not a hope of settling.
  4. Solidly remaining as rain here in Cathcart, although was out for a run there and even in Giffnock theres patches of wet snow.
  5. The iPhone weather app ‘model’ is now pushing snow back to the early hours of the morning for the city. Harrumph.
  6. Just wanted to say thanks to those with the knowledge and expertise coming on and giving us their analysis and thoughts. Fascinating to read your posts and looking forward to seeing what’s delivered over the next 48 hours. The iphone weather app ‘model’ is saying decent chance of snow in Glasgow from around 22:00, but definitely rain until then.
  7. So do we think this snow will make its way through to the Glasgow area a la the beast? We do quite well off easterly stuff usually, but does the angle of attack not need to be right?
  8. Yes that is quite notable. Guessing Met Office are calling it according to their own calculations over and above what the models say, which may or may not be borne out. The iphone weather app model, which is from the Weather Channel, has decent reliability and predicted Thursday’s snow in Glasgow where others didn’t, says snow. Nothing about potential totals though.
  9. I evidently live in a different country to most people on here - were bracing for a winter storm next week. Central belt to get pasted with snow off a Firth of Forth streamer then? Would be sea level Glasgow’s third decent lying snow event in as many weeks.
  10. More sleety here now and the lying snow beginning to turn to slush on the roads.
  11. Even down near sea level in Glasgow it’s snowing. Height not really much a factor other than totals. Still got light snow here. Noticed that throughout yesterday my phone app predicted several hours of snow for today, but all the models said rain. Netweather, BBC, met office forecasts all said rain too.
  12. Falling and lying snow in Glasgow. Reckon about 2-3 cm lying so far.
  13. Councils have had pelters about not gritting in the last few weeks so they’ll be taking no chances now.
  14. Looking at the amber warning, it seems to take in the eastern suburbs of Glasgow, much of North Lanarkshire too, I wonder if that’s them hedging their bets by making it bigger, or someone has been liberal with the colouring in apps? Or maybe there could be a risk of decent snow here too? I’m in the south of the city not much above sea level. Not banking on much if any, but I’ll keep my eye out. My phone app is quite convinced of several hours of snow from tomorrow morning onwards. I recall an even in March 2010 where the city centre just had wet snow, but outlying areas towards Coatbridge saw lying snow. Maybe it’ll be similar this time although amber warning suggests that totals should be significant.
  15. Freezing rain here too. Even the drizzle was freezing in impact on the ground and creating a skating rink.
  16. Meant falling snow. Don’t know how the fake that happened.
  17. Fully expect cold rain here too, any faking snow will be a nice winter bonus. Please no more freezing rain though!
  18. Right, I’m an amateur even compared to the amateurs on here. But things are starting to look promising when it comes to cold and snow right?
  19. Are we talking something similar to Feb/March 2018 here? That easterly created a streamer that buried Glasgow, especially areas just north of the city. EDIT: looking at the chart posted above Stormeh, I’m guessing it might be? I recall colleagues from Kilmarnock and elsewhere in Ayrshire being shocked when they saw how much snow had fallen in Glasgow.
  20. Very rapid melt in Glasgow today. Most snow now gone and some deposits of slush and ice in places. Ice pancakes on the White Cart Water earlier.
  21. Here’s another photo from the south side. Might be a few of these today...
  22. Cracking snow cover in the south of Glasgow today. I reckon around 3-5 cm lying. Picture postcard stuff in the bright sunshine.
