  1. An absolutely beautiful evening. Crystal clear skies and temperatures dropping to 3.5 in the countryside where I am in north Hampshire. A reminder of just how far north and therefore how cold it can get even at this time of the year.
  2. The band of precipitation that gave a covering of snow in north Hampshire passed through at about 3.30-4.00am. Another band id due very soon, but the temps have risen a degree or two so this one will probably be of rain. We'll see.
  3. Surprised to wake up to a covering of snow this morning in north Hampshire. Probably no more than 0.5cm, but a covering all the same.
  4. Also remarkable that 10 of the wettest winters on the list were in the 30 year period from 1910 10 1939.
  5. I notice 5 of the wettest 25 winters occurred during the 1910s. We may have the wettest winter of all this year, although that is still doubtful, but this decade is highly unlikely to be as wet as the corresponding one 100 years ago. It would be interesting to know whether there were reports of severe flooding in the Somerset Levels in the 1910s.
  6. Tamara, Nick Sussex, Steve Murr et al have thrown in the towel in terms of anything cold in the foreseeable future. When the last bull turns bearish and sells out, perhaps it is time for us to buy into an extended cold spell. We'll probably see cold synoptics appearing very soon and a freezing February.
  7. You may be slightly too far north for that shower. Looking at the trajectory of the precipitation, the heaviest burst could be in Berkshire and north Hampshire. After that it will continue into Surrey and points south-east. Hope it retains good intensity. We should know in the next hour and a half. Plenty more showers for all of us through the night I hope.
  8. I'd like to send you some nasty PMs myself, but unfortunately I don't know what they are. In the meantime I would like to say that your pessimism is beginning to rankle. It's people like you that are ruining our winter.
