  1. Yes, it's ridiculous how a little bit of snow in the Home Counties causes so many problems. The Scotch are much better at coping with it although that's partly due to the lack of cars on the road.
  2. Very light dusting here. Don't think any more is due sadly. Very cold with strong winds.
  3. Wow man you and you're Mom should be stoked about developements. Dude, you'll be shredding some cool lines by the a.m.
  4. Congratulations to Steve Murr on 10,000 posts. He, along with TEITS and Nick Sussex, is one of the three 'Big Beasts' on here. These are the guys who, unrestrained by professional obligations or a desire to associate themselves with a profession that they used to be part of, post with knowledge, insight and huge enthusiasm on the MOD thread. Thanks for your input Steve; I look forward to the next 10,000.
  5. Just seen Fergie's post on the model thread. Damn and blast. I think most of us knew the downgrade was coming and that there would be little in terms of heavy snow either from the low approaching from the south-west or from convection from the east. On the other hand what do the Chief Forecaster, Fergie or Nick F know.
  6. From memory the biggest diurnal recorded in the UK is 29C (-7C to 22C). I think this occurred in May in the south-east Highlands.
  7. As those of us in the far east of the region always feared, the 'channel low' looks like it will be too far south to effect us. There is of course time for a correction north, but if anything it looks like the tendency is for a further movement south. Could still be very good for east Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, south Wiltshire and south west Dorset. It's been a pretty good winter in my part of the world and it would have been great to have had a snowy spell in early Spring, but unfortunately it doesn't look like it's going to happen. Good luck to those further south and west, I think some of you may get 10cm or more as long as the low doesn't move further south than it's currently predicted to be.
  8. A really enjoyable few days of proper winter. Biting cold with occasional very light snow showers since Friday. Had a very slight dusting yesterday and have woken up to another dusting this morning. Freezing cold at the rugby yesterday with snow and a Grand Slam in the air.
  9. Looks like we will be on about 4C by the 19th and then the possibility of a big fall over the last 10 days of the month. There appears to be good cross model agreement for an easterly setting up and for that easterly to last, in some form or another, for a week or so. If that does happen we are likely to end up with a sub 3C month. My prediction is for a 2.7C finishing point.
  10. Blimey, the snow is beginning to settle here. I wan't expecting that. I'm sure it will be very temporary but still much better than forecast.
  11. Snowing lightly here. We've definitely had a good winter so far in this part of the world in terms of falling and lying snow and temperatures. Going to be milder for the next few days at least, but if we can finish the month off with a cold week or so it will confirm this as a good season.
  12. Snow lying on the grass here again after the earlier dusting had melted. On high ground there is a couple of cm.
  13. Slight dusting of snow in north Hampshire. Very wet and very little but it counts.
  14. I am brave enough. I courageously predict that lying snow will only effect the far north-east of our area - i.e. Berkshire/Oxfordshire. I hope that I'm wrong.
  15. Selective chart posting Mapantz. There were two charts posted and the second one showed the snow much further south - about 15 miles from the south coast. So, all you said was that the snow charts matched the latest warnings and all I'm saying is that they don't.
  16. No it doesn't. The snow is significantly further south and west on these charts than on the MO warnings. Heaviest snow over north Hampshire and Berkshire. Don't believe it will happen.
  17. Got a feeling that there will be further corrections south and west for the main band of snow, so you might just miss out. Why do I say this? Well, that's been the story so far this winter with both this slider and the one in January and of course because I am south and west of you. Sleet/snow at the moment here in north Hampshire with lying snow above 600ft.
  18. Sleet/snow in north Hampshire at 300ft with temperature at 1C. Freezing level about 500ft with -0.5C at 700ft. Snow is lying at 600ft and above with a good covering at 700ft.
  19. Looking like a cold, miserable and very wet event for us from Sunday onwards. There are of course a range of possibilities, however it would have to set up perfectly with the low further to the east and at a better angle than is currently forecast for there to be a decent rain to snow event. Lots of rain and some sleet/snow, but nothing lying is my prediction.
  20. Looks like it is all going wrong this morning. It is only one set of runs, but to get a slider setting up perfectly for the second time in a month always seemed a bit unlikely. February is shaping up to be on the cold side but not very cold and not very snowy for the majority of us.
  21. 100% snow cover this morning at 9am for the 7th morning in a row, with another 1cm falling in the early hours. The temperature has only gone above freezing on 3 or 4 days out of the last 10 and only then for a few hours. Don't think it has gone above 2C at all. Had snowfalls of 13cm, 2cm, 3cm and 1cm. In low lying north east Hampshire - about 240ft - I think it has been an excellent cold spell. Possibly be more on Friday (2-5cm?), although it will be a very wet and transient affair.
