  1. Completely misty/overcast all day then it suddenly cleared in the last half hour! Temperature now above 13c for the first time in 24 hours along with clear sky/sunshine.
  2. 18mm in my gauge from the evening downpour and that has paved the way for a very misty and progressively foggy morning, 7.2c at the moment. We're at the time of year I get frustrated by, so much potential for warm sunshine but often outdone by cloud build up like yesterday or fog like today!
  3. They would have been from Longleat. Their Sky Safari event has been happening for the last 3 days. Proper monsoon rain this evening, almost a repeat of yesterday only no close thundery activity, however there was heavy hail earlier.
  4. Some serious downpours in West Wiltshire this evening . We had hail half an hour ago and now very heavy rain. Thunder was heard to the North a while ago.
  5. Great photos, it's over here now and producing plenty of lightning and thunder. I think it may be back building too so could be more to come.
  6. Was not expecting this today, pretty much on a par with last Saturday evening's storm with several close strikes but plenty of high based thunder too. Hope Ben from Mere is ready as it looks set to go that way.
  7. This would be a great wintry shower set up in November to April! Maxima have been stuck in the 17s the last 3 afternoons, this week last year there were a few minima above 18c!
  8. There must be some flash flooding issues in the Bristol region, very intense rainfall all evening according to the radar.
  9. It simply cannot be dry for even 4 or 5 hours can it. Several moderate to heavy showers in the last 3 hours and extensive cloud in between them making a mockery of hoping to get washing done and dried in what should be the warmest part of the day!
  10. Several subtle changes in wind direction have made this a day of 3 distinct parts ; dawn until around midday had a WNW wind with frequent heavy (even torrential) showers and squally gusts, the wind then shifted slightly more NNW which allowed for a mostly sunny 4 to 5 hours as we hardly ever get showers from that direction before it reverted back to the WNW a few hours ago which has led to more heavy showers into this evening.
  11. This is becoming a very different September than we have been used to in recent years.
  12. Great storms here, literally back building as I type with frequent lightning, thunder and bursts of monsoon rain. Has transferred from the edge of Salisbury Plain to a second cell forming almost over Warminster. Several very close positive CGs with gunshot thunder!
  13. Great storm passing just over the edge of Salisbury Plain with frequent lightning, thunder and a proper monsoon of rain. One strike was practically overhead, actually make that 2 as I type!! Definite positive CG very nearby! Radar suggests it maybe back building too.
  14. I wasn't disbelieving you Mike, just shows what can happen if the heaviest passes over. Thunder to the SW , 4 loud rumbles in the last 2 minutes. Lovely CB in that direction !
  15. Blimey that's a lot in not very long! Not even 2mm here as the heavy showers are moving so quickly.
  16. Perfect cold front clearance allowing 5 minutes of sunshine after a thoroughly miserable day. Temperature has dropped 3.2c in the last 20 minutes. Roll on tomorrow's sunshine because Thursday isn't looking as decent as it was.
  17. Two wonderful days in a row with single figure minima followed by 20c plus maxima, both days having long sunny periods and fair weather cumulus. Frontal cloud has gradually encroached from the West this evening.
  18. 48 hours ago we were well on the way to 27c plus. Right now it's only 11.7c and dropping!
  19. Stratocumulus and sunny spells, warm and humid at 22.3c. Seriously unimpressed with rain forecast from 07.00 tomorrow! The last time it rained was Monday 21st which was my previous outdoor workday. That was after a dry weekend of no work and a wet Friday morning outside!!!!!
  20. Wonderful to be sat out this evening, really missed this over the last 5 weeks of 18c-20c ish days and fresh or damp evenings. Half moon beginning to shine brightly after a glowing sunset, clear sky, 23.2c, plants watered, friendly robin twittering a few yards away
  21. Well it's not so much of a surprise as in the set up is pretty ideal with heat building ahead of a very slow moving cold front, almost a plume situation. Just 4 days ago the cold front was forecast to be crossing Southern England this afternoon.
  22. There have been 18 out of 24 days this month with maxima between 19c to 21c!!
