  1. Will go for 14*C please with plumes and thunderstorms, and an extremely super cold 1 day Northerly with -10*C 850 hpa temps covering the whole country! Savage snow showers included!
  2. Howdy A new thread for those of ya in the North West to continue your chats of the weather. Looks like some chilly and possible wintry conditions to wet the appetite for the North-Western UK cold and snow fans in the next few days. But will it cold enough for the showers or longer spells of precipitation to fall as snow to low levels I wonder? Previous thread:
  3. Probably seems appropriate to lock this now as the thread has gotten rather long. Will let loose a new thread for you fellas in the North-West to continue your chats of the possible upcoming wintry conditions and other weather New thread:
  4. A sparkling new South West and Central Southern England thread all clean and shiny from Netweather's washing machine! Please continue your discussions of the weather in here Previous thread:
  5. While it's quiet and with the thread starting to get rather long, will be putting a padlock on this and open up a new thread for you fellas to continue your chats of the weather in the South West/Central Southern England Link to new thread:
  6. Welcome! Previous thread was getting rather long and so the door to a new Scotland Regional Weather Chat thread has been unlocked! Be very careful as you enter this place; there may be a lot of hail, sleet, blizzards and ice in the next few days, which may cause all sorts of nasty accidents upon your arrival! And don't be too greedy and keep all the snaw to yourselfs. You must think of those lovely Southerners and let them get in on the action! Previous thread:
  7. Quite jealous of you lot! We want all your snow you may very well get! While it's fairly quiet and since the topic is getting rather long, will be locking this and opening up a new Regional Scotland Weather Chat thread to continue your discussions! Edit: Link to new thread,
  8. Crumbs! Looks as though there's an ice age coming up!
  9. I suppose what helps is that typically, at this time of year, the Polar Vortex isn't as dominant as it can be during the middle of Winter. With those usual very low heights generally becoming less intense over Greenland/Canada, a more meridonal, wavy pattern can occur. The chances of a less powerful/flat Jet racing in towards us across the Atlantic is decreased, thus allowing High Pressure to amplify more easily to our West, forcing Lows to dive to our East unlocking the heavens to Arctic air from the North. While I am looking forward to warmer weather thinking it would be game over now for any more snow chances, I would welcome this possible high-quality Northerly if it meant one last shot of wintry weather for the snow fans! Come on Spring, just one last bite of the snowy cherry before it's too late!
  10. Yeah, does look look as though the GFS had over-estimated the strength of the sunshine shield for places today. Must admit, was worried the GFS would have proved victorious! But... GFS 0 - 1 UKMO/BBC Sorry 12Z GFS, you lost!
  11. Dear God, Please can you repair the Scotland Snow Shield so they get no more snow! Those of us in the South would be really grateful if you do! Amen
  12. Ah yes, Winter! I believe we had one of those 4 years ago...
  13. Wow! That's at least a '12' on the Steve Murr Snow Scale!
  14. Well I don't know what all the fuss is about. Looks what's heading right for you:
  15. Some very strange rain falling in Solihull! What ever this sort of rain is, it's very fascinating and it's been making the ground white. Looks like others are getting this strange stuff too. I'm sure I saw something like this in Winter before...
  16. Have no fear! Once we've endured the snow showers in Solihull/Birmingham (if they reach here), we'll blow them back towards Shropshire for you!
  17. Heavy wet snow shower just broke loose in Eastern Solihull!
  18. Hi! This is the latest version from the 06Z run. Still looking pretty good for you guys from the mid to late afternoon period - especially if you're on higher ground (except possibly the extreme South towards the coasts). ...although I suspect as the Low pulls away East, even the extreme South may see this becoming wintry as the chilly North-Westerly winds give the less cold air the boot! Very slight Northwards adjustments compared to the 00Z run, though: So certainly will come to one of those moments where a lot of window starring will be neccesary on the day itself. Consiering how marginal it's looking as it is, let's hope for those of you drooling with snowy excitement that the Low won't track any further North than what some of the models are suggesting. I know it's been a while since some of you have seen the white stuff; the South-Eastern UK snow shield could do with being put through the shredder!
  19. Some of these posts, especially the ones complaining about a lack of cold, are definitely more suited to the Model Moans and Ramps thread, really. Let's keep this thread friendly please, or we may have to lock you up in the Netweather dungeon...
  20. Ah yeah! March 2013 - that was really spectacular for it's wintry and cold weather too! Don't really remember Nov 1996 much.
  21. From the time you were born, which Winter month would you love to experience again? For me, it would be January 2013. A month that provided a decent 2 week cold spell with some fairly cyclonic Easterly/South-Easterly winds causing a serious explosion to the Solihull Snow Shield. A good number of snowfalls, albeit mostly light to moderate, giving a total depth of 16cm. It was really like a Winter wonderland! The whole landscape covered in a big white carpet! Was so magical! And is some of the deepest snow I've seen in a while... (apart from the 20cm deep snow from a snowfall back in late December 2010 - think it occured on the 18th). January 1995 would probably come a close second perhaps drawing with December 2010. What about you guys?
  22. That's finally all the toys gathered up from the Model thread. Man, wish people would just keep their toys with them in their prams.
  23. Looking at the ECMWF - GFS - CMC 168 hour to 240 hour 500mb height means below and they generally keep the UK cool or cold with blocking in the mid Atlantic and some troughing to our East over the continent allowing a chilly flow between the North-West and North. The CMC (far right in image) the least favourable for possible cold and wintry conditions as it generally keeps the High in the Atlantic a little flatter and looks as though it would get knocked directly over the UK. It's the least deep with the European troughing and seemingly the 'driest' of the 3. Either way, they all paint a chilly picture and nothing particularly mild looks likely at present. Pretty much along the same lines as the main operational models at that time frame with their renewed amplification in the Atlantic beyond 144 hours. Would probably still need to watch out that Lows coming of Canada don't try to posses evil powers by quickly running over the top of the likely Atlantic ridge and flatten the pattern out somewhat and/or force the High Pressure South-East over Southern UK just like on the GEM run. Though I suppose as longs as low heights can be maintained to our South or East, hopefully their won't be much in the way of High Pressure sinking over us. Do possibly feel some of the likely solutions at the moment is to either see some kind of Mid-Latitude-Block over/around the UK, or seeing the Atlantic high getting drawn North-East over Scandinavia, or somewhere to our North. The ultimate dream for many of the snow weather enthusiasts I'd image. It's kinda a shame about that UKMO run really as I admit I'm not sure whether it would lead to anything more favourable for cold and snowy conditions further down the line or not. Still generally a chilly run, though. Before then, there is the possibility to see some wintry weather via possible North-Westerly/Northerly air streams later this weekend and into next week. Also a fair amount of dry, frosty weather too. I think while waiting for future runs to roll out, it might be a good idea to come here to get your supplies: And if you fancied, maybe you could come and work there.
