  1. Probably around 10 to 15cm, maybe locally up to 20 to 30cm in some odd spots, especially over the hills!
  2. Light snow shower here after a big 4 hours of the Solihull Snow Shield recovering!
  3. Me too! I love falling snow! What a nice surprise to wake up to some white stuff. Much better start compared to last Winter already!
  4. I’ll try to keep quiet. Don’t want to jeopardise anything ??
  5. If it all magically vanishes on next update, it might be time to panic (lol). Suspect it’ll be one of those window-watching moments!
  6. Hello With Winter looking to shake hands with us in the Midlands in the next few days, thought it was worth opening up a new thread! Please continue your discussions of the upcoming snowy possibilities in here. Non-snowy weather chat is welcome too! Certainly some exciting times for those who are craving the upcoming wintry surprises. An army of snow showers will strike the Midlands tonight and into tomorrow. Maybe with a few on Saturday, too! Could cause travel chaos for some, particularly the further North and West in the region you are! There’s then a chance of a more general area of snow coming to join the Midlands weather party on Sunday. Nevertheless, questions surround the exact track the sliding Low Pressure system from the Atlantic could take, which will determine where the snow and rain line will be and how much of the precipitation stays as snow. Ideally, would probably need the Low to track through the South of the region (such as on the above ECMWF charts for early to mid Sunday - credit to @bluearmy on Model thread) to avoid any of the milder sectors the Low could bring! But not too far South either, otherwise the snow could ignore Northern areas of the region! It does at least look like snow will absorb some of the Midlands Snow Shield’s power in the next few days! Although, locally, their will be variation as to how much power each of our snow domes lose! It would be great if all of the Midlands cold weather fan’s snow shields were terminated by Sunday! ? Xtra info: Please keep this thread friendly, or some of you might have to be locked away in a room; a room of no windows! Hence, no way of seeing any snow (Link to previous thread below )
  7. Just a heads up that a new Midlands weather chat thread will be unlocked soon ready for the wintry excitement from tomorrow onwards. Thread is getting quite long! Edit: locking this now. New thread coming up Link to new thread:
  8. Does look like a possible Northerly trying to poke through on that chart for the U.K, as that Low to our North slithers down to our East!
  9. Should have worn this while viewing the model thread this evening Too dangerous with all the flying toys in there!
  10. Hi Midlands Ice Age, I’m more towards the Eastern side of Solihull (Catherine-De-Barns way) Nah, don’t really watch or play cricket, although I’ve considered taking it up before. As sports go, baseball and badminton appeal to me more. Got up at 8 when there was some cloud overhead, but still with most of the clouds to East/North-East Ooo gosh (lol), I hope so too. Hate to think that two birds may have gotten into a serious fight! Talking of fights, let’s hope the snow puts up a big fight this Winter (at least for those that are craving some, including myself)
  11. Ar drat! I either had been asleep, or didn’t look out of the window when that happened (assuming it snowed slightly in this part of Solihull too ?)
  12. If only the wind direction was more of a direct North-Westerly, can see most of the dark snow clouds pass by here to the North-East ? Nice to see some of you wake up to some snow! Maybe one or two of the showers may thump the snow shield here at some point, but probably just fall as rain, hail or sleet!
  13. Hope you don’t mind me asking, but what does VI stand for?
  14. That was actually our plan! ?? Mind you, if the models water down their chilly outlooks, then I suspect the whole model thread will be nothing but full of thrown out stuffed teddies, binkies, laptops, phones, baby bottles and half-eaten cookies!
  15. It’s good to have you back! We’re certainly always here to support you and other members going through various situations
  16. Wow, actually had no idea that ECMWF was based in the U.K. ?That really surprised me! Can’t believe I didn’t know that before! Even though I’ve visited their website in the past Just assumed it was based in one of the continental countries in Mainland Europe! Having read that article that knocker posted, looks as though while the ECMWF will be opening up a data centre in Italy, looks as though the main headquarters will still be in the UK Sorry, I’m just really fascinated by what I just found out (lol) ?
  17. Wouldn’t mind a Canadian style December! Not feeling convinced it will be all that cold here, to be honest. 5.6*C please, although if someone vanquished the Greenland Vortex, I’d re-adjust the estimate to -5.6*C.
  18. Back on topic please guys, as one or two of the recent posts are certainly more suited to that ramps and banter thread ?
  19. Ah, cheers Crewe! ? Heard that term thrown around a lot on Netweather (without realising what TMW itself stood for). But I guess Ian Brown either copied or borrowed that term from someone else! Not a fan of it, really. Seems a bold claim for Ian to make when, unless you had a magical fortune-telling ball, no one knows for definite what our future Winters could hold. For all we know, we could easily go into the freezer within the next few Winters, I guess providing we were to have favourable Northern blocking. I think, however, should we end up with less potent Easterlies or Northerlies over the years (I know some have mentioned about our Northerlies being little less cold than they used to be), and also should the High Latitude Blocking become less frequent with more of a devious Polar Vortex, then the modern Winter thing could become apparent!
  20. I’m just curious, what does TMW stand for by the way? As for Winter hopes and predictions, I’d personally love for this Winter to be filled with a lot of white stuff, but have a feeling it won’t be a particularly cold one, (despite some favourable factors such as the Easterly QBO). Would love to be in for a surprise though!
  21. Before the possibility of some blocked conditions later in the month (some of which may produce some heavenly treats for the snow weather enthusiasts) the GFS surprisingly continues to upgrade the Northerly flow for this Sunday. Didn’t look at the 00Z run, but the 06Z now has the -5*C 850 hpa temperature line covering the whole of the U.K. (except for far South-West of Ireland). Some of the previous runs showed patchy areas of the -5*C isotherm covering the U.K., so a slight improvement for upper cold. I think what helps is the Atlantic ridge looks a touch more amplified, which I think is helping to drain some colder 850 hpa temperatures further South from the Arctic, along with a slightly better Northerly flow. Showers could be wintry anywhere (albeit most of them concentrated over Northern UK and down the coasts), but still with the best chances of settling snow on top of hills, especially to the North Outside of (wintry) showers, it would be bright and sunny. Would make for some great walking in the chilly, crispy, conditions! (Clearly, as some others said, there is a chance of some windy and wet conditions to contend to before Sunday’s Northerly!)
  22. Will go for 6.8*C please. Likely cool start perhaps with a milder middle. Then maybe a chillier spell towards the end - a cold wintry shot from the North or North-East with some blocking to the West and a -NAO signature developing (that’s what I hope anyway, lol)
  23. There's been too many 'Autumns' in the last few years, therefore I hope Winter will happen in Winter this year :/
  24. Blimey! Such a marked contrast between Scotland and Central England! (lol)
