  1. Mini beast. That makes me laugh. If we get snowfall tonight then this is way worse than the beast! The only difference was the freezing rain. But it had all but gone the next day
  2. Seems that way. I am hopeful I will have to walk to work tomorrow and I don't mind a bit. ? I only found it hard last time because of the inch of ice on top of the snow lol
  3. We've had quite a thaw here in Poole today. Mainly on tarmac and concrete. Presumably because of the surface temps and how wet the ground was. But still a fair amount remains. More snow will sort that! I just hope it stays around so I can play when I get home from work tomorrow lol
  4. To me, this spell has been perfect here. Heavy snow but it hasn't affected the roads. Brilliant stuff. Hopefully work in the morning will be ok to get to without breaking a bone lol
  5. Talk about gutted last night. I was out for evening and was looking forward to walking home in the snow. I become unwell and had to come home early where I promptly went to bed. Got up this morning and wow! A nice dumping here in Poole. I honestly didn't expect that. It looks so lovely. I'm going to have to go through the thread and read the excitement from earlier lol
  6. Well there's some flurries that are sticking. Fingers crossed. I'm off out tonight (hic) and looking forward to walking home later ?
  7. I'm not holding out much hope for here. We've had showers on and off all day and nothing has settled. Even when the radar shows we are under ppn it isn't snowing this eve lol. I trust met office. We are outside the Amber warning. I think it will be a dusting
  8. We have sleet/wet snow already. Wow. Been up since before 6am and temps were around 6c then.
  9. Yes, temp seems to be dropping fast. There isn't meant to be any disruptive snow here through the day is there? I have two boys heading to work soon. During the last beast everywhere closed suddenly and it was bedlam with everyone trying to get home. One of my boys had to walk 4 miles home in it
  10. According to the radar, rain is already turning to snow in some parts of the region.
  11. Hard to believe just what a contrast it's going to be tomorrow. I've been sat outside at work for my break with no coat!
  12. What a difference a week makes! It's hard to believe this time last week the snow was falling. Felt quite spring like today. Birds singing, a little chilly but stark contrast to last week.
  13. Rapid thaw in Poole, it's almost all gone. Managed to have my fun last night. I'm content with that. The freezing rain was lethal. We had to crack through the layer of ice to get to the snow. Last night 2 of my grown up children and me (19 and 21) were outside like big kids throwing snow balls, stomping through the ice and snow having great fun. Yes it was a nightmare walking to and from work but it was lovely when I had a chance to mess about in it. If it stayed the powdery stuff that would be fine but I'm glad the ice has all but gone. Having said that, it's been a memorable spell.
  14. It was quite amazing actually. To see the efforts of people helping each other and doing their best. There were some people giving lifts in 4x4 and one driver went and got us some bread. Yesterday one of the trained nurses went to pick people up and he was one of those staying on site. There was a contingency for those who couldn't make it. No matter job we do in the home we all have the same training. That helped to cover. We all did our best and our residents were well cared for. That's all that matters.
  15. That's true and I agree but it's a dementia care home and none of us, whatever job we do there will want to stay home if it's at all possible to get to work. At least three members of staff stayed on site for 30 hours covering those who could not get in. Im glad i made it and would do the same tomorrow if I had to
  16. Well after a second go I made it into work. A 25 min walk took me 50 mins this morning. It was reported that 2 staff had fallen over on their way to work and had to turn back. It was still raining and freezing everything on impact. Lethal. I never EVER want to see that again. It was significantly better on the way home but still very slippy. The snow is still perfect under the sheet of ice. It's the weirdest thing I've ever seen or at least for a very long time!
  17. I've rang in. I know some nurses have stayed on site since yesterday. I work in kitchens. Everyone in the same boat. Nothing we can do. I'm hoping someone can pick me up. It's only a 25 minute walk but impossible.
  18. I work in a care home. I've just gone out but come back in. I can't even get past my drive. It's like a skating rink. I NEED to get to work. It's freezing rain now. Horrendous out there
  19. Nope, not here. Very bizarre outside. Wind getting up. Doesn't look like snow. Sounds like ice pellets. Hope we don't get freezing rain. That will be evil!
  20. I was glad of that earlier. Snow still felt like needles on my face walking home from work. My poor son had to walk 4 miles in it to get home from work. Mine was only half hour walk. Not looking forward to walking to work tomorrow morning at 6am lol
