  1. Well it has been a bloody brilliant spell here. I don’t feel guilty gloating as normally it’s sh*t here compared to other parts of the country, or indeed other parts of the NW/Pennines. Dont get me wrong , it hasn’t been perfect as there has been thawing during the day, but to have three mornings in a week with three separate snow events must be pretty rare for this neck of the woods. Sadly this spell was never primed to deliver for the NW coast - we need proper Arctic air for that which this really isn’t. Fingers crossed this changes before long. Happy New Year to all on NetWeather especially those in this thread. :-)
  2. Heavy snow again, the shower has managed to scrape just about this far north
  3. It’s really hard to tell. The showers are so slow moving, looking at the latest frame I think I might catch the northern edge of this one but Altrincham and sale are best placed. Yes the Bolton one may miss me to the north
  4. This shower is going to miss me to the south, shame! Might just catch the northern edge.
  5. Heads up Altrincham/Sale snow very soon again for you (and me shortly after I hope)
  6. Check the latest radar frame. you can literally see the blob just to the west of Leigh expand and intensify frame by frame. This is why Manchester does so well with Irish Sea showers - why does this happen? I’ve noticed it many times.
  7. 3-4cm here in Withington. The big shower is easing now but hoping for a bit more, radar looks good. Proper winter wonderland out there.
  8. Those showers south of Preston might have our names on them ? Hopefully they’ll hit us by 8am or so
  9. Cheers! Yep I’m in my element right now! Heavy snow coming down again and the radar looks good for Manchester - notice how the showers expand and if we’re really lucky they merge with developing ones off the Irish Sea. Might not last very long this morning but we are in a very lucky position.
  10. A slight lull here for Withington with lighter snow but heavier stuff should be back soon.
  11. West Manchester now under the moderate to heavy stuff. I would assume snow?
  12. I know what you mean. You’d be surprised though how often the little blobs just out to sea expand rapidly as they hit land.
  13. Your shower has actually intensified over the past couple of radar frames. Looks very heavy.
  14. Those showers look very beefy. Looking good for Manchester in the next hour. Don’t seem to be a huge number lining up though? Another very good call Kasim.
  15. It’s useful to know where these apps get their data from. Since the MetO stopped being the primary provider for the BBC’s weather data, the BBC app now sources their hourly forecasts from the ECM ensemble data (EPS). The MetO app uses a combination of MOGREPS and the UKV. So it is the ECM ensemble data which is picking up on this streamer - which is unusual as normally it completely misses shower potential whereas the MetO is more on the ball.
  16. So good to have someone with such strong local knowledge posting here. I’m a geek so I also know where EGCC refers to.
  17. I hear ya! I have a little bit of hope for tonight , definitely keep an eye on the radar.
  18. Brilliant post. I note that we are under a very light direct westerly flow tonight (until the early hours when the flow goes SW’ly) so I did wonder about showers . strangely nothing on UKV - normally it would pick up on Irish Sea showers.
