  1. So it's looking dry and warmish for Christmas I would love another cold one with snow but at least it won't be raining. Not great but could be worse
  2. Woke up at 3.30 and had a covering on the cars. Looked out again at 7 and nothing. Looking at the mountain we're talking about 300m asl for a light dusting. Very disapionting Plenty of winter left though
  3. It looks like being more marginal now. The BBC are mixing it up with rain in many places so could be more sleet than anything
  4. You're right there. It's been a nice dry and clear day here. Feels cold in that wind though.
  5. NOthing here as expected. Slight frost though which was a surprise considering the strength of the wind last night
  6. country tracks forecast gave a possibility of showers making their way south east turning to snow in mid & south Wales overnight. Some of us may get a dusting. Not holding out too much hope here though. The end of the week looks interesting too as the models have been suggesting. Long way off though. at least we have something interesting after the joint warmest autumn on record here in Wales
  7. proper chilly this morning. 1st real frost. Nice and white. Looks very interesting over the next week or so. Considering many people thought that we couldn't possibly have a 4th colder than average winter it's looking like a real possibility.
  8. How did that one pan out? I can see it was classified as cold but what about snow cover?
  9. According to TWO's summary of the last 300 winters it was classed as MILD 1971/72...14.8c...MILD http://theweatheroutlook.com/twoother/twocontent.aspx?type=libgen&id=1499
  10. Country 'ready for bitter winter' Damn it! That's put the kibosh on a severe winter then
  11. Oh right. Irish sea was it. My memory is terrible. I just remember seeing this thing on the radar fizzling out just as it was reaching us here. Very frustrating!! We did have perhaps 20cm (maybe a bit more) early December then a few cm's later on which was probably on the 17th. Lets hope we both share in the fun this year
  12. Certainly a slow start by the looks of it. I do prefer the cold late December into January. We tend to rely on battle ground events for big dumps of snow so I'm not too bothered about record breaking temperatures. 2010/2011 in my exact location in east wales was a little disapointing. Small falls of snow and very cold before Christmas. Nothing after. But 5-10 miles west towards Cardiff and North into the Valleys had an extreme event caused by streamers off the Bristol Channel. I remember watching it on the radars. It just refused to go away or move east which was disapointing for me but good news for the guys who received well over a foot in places. 2009/2010 proved much better for my location. 3 seperate falls of snow over 30cm late December/early January. One closer to 40cm. We've had a few deeper falls of snow but never as many in one winter. In my 33 years any way. What bout the thoughts North of the border?
  13. Yes. just in time for the start of winter Andy, what temperatures would this give us?
  14. Just hit 18C in the car here in Cwmbran. Not the most accurate of readings I know. Better than my ill positioned outside thermometer though It's telling me 25c at the moment. It's basking in direct sun light. Been meaning to move it for a while
  15. I'm personally still quite optimistic of at least one winter month of below average temperatures. The way things stand we’re heading for a 3rd consecutive month of well above average temperatures. IMO it will be highly unlikely to continue this trend through Dec, Jan & Feb. Nature does have a way of balancing longer term averages. As many have suggested, it looks likely the below average temperatures are more likely to occur later this winter so we have plenty of time left. A repeat of last years early onset winter was always hugely unlikely.
  16. With talk of record high November temperatures what about parallels to 1946? Early November 1946 recorded all time high temps of 21.7C. We all know what winter followed after that. Clutching at straws but early warmth certainly does not right off a winter. Perhaps suggestion of a late winter this year seems more likely.
  17. Loving this topic. Late Dec 2009 to mid Jan 2010 (can't remember exact dates) we had 3 seperate dumps of snow over 30cm. One closer to 40cm. We've had deeper falls in the past but I have never experienced so many significant falls of snow in such a small space of time. It was great. It's a funny old world though. Jan 2011 promised so much but failed to deliver in my exact location although areas only 10 miles away were severely affected. I remember watching the radar and seeing all the heavy stuff just missing us. Very frustrating!
  18. Country tracks forecast says an increasingly mild week ahead. Looks like that's it for this year. Looking forward to the spring proper now. What a boring few months we've had. To be expected after Dcember I suppose.
  19. Incredibly windy here all day. Looks set to stay the same all weekend. Hopefully I won't loose any roof tiles like previous stormy weather
  20. Excellent website. Colder, wetter & sunnier that average. That's a strange mix
  21. Ha! No worries. The snow has turned into a big orange sun now. Damn it!. Better than wind & rain though
  22. I think you're right. Temperature looks quite chilly on Friday but not sure where they got the precip from
  23. I know they're totally unreliable but BBC 5 day forecast has 0C and light snow for Friday. Is there anything in this?
