  1. My Accuweather add-on has just updated for Saturday night, and it says "Strong thunderstorms". Have never seen it say "strong" before (actually, I don't think I've ever seen it say "thunderstorms" before!), and I don't doubt it'll say something like "dry and clear" by tomorrow morning, but it's nice to see anyway.

There has been strong storms this week what was app saying then?

  2. reports coming in of v hvy rain in central cornwall ,and truckers reporting severall flashes of lightning .just had 1 min of very hvy rain here on mendip ahead of main area of activity although on radar it looks to be tracking more east now as apposed to an hour ago .its going to be hard predicting  sat/sun event but ingredients are there i would like to see it generally track a bit further west to give more posters a shot ,not because of IMBY as i had the cream mon night but to give others some action .there could also be other shots next week so plenty to look forward too .Posted Image

I watched the radar down there it intensified, unstable air is moving in with this. Some large storms to come for northern/western areas tomorrow. (could be some overnight but not severe as Thurs afternoon/eve)

  3. For me hot days are fine for doing nothing but once I do outdoor activities/work it becomes difficult, therefore I choose warm for day-time this covers very warm so around 25C top temp. At night I like it to cool which would prevent to much heat indoors building up, even if I had air-conditioning I'd still pick cool nights, a natural cooling fresh breeze is nice. I enjoy the sunshine. I'm not a fan of high humid feel but I would not mind higher temperatures/humidity if they were to bring storms. In general it's warm/very warm day-time for me. Most weather types I would accept for summer time, I choose all the options! some might only choose one or two. I like all thunderstorms but it's really one's that come at dusk or first light and night that I prefer.

Some fairly cruddy images of the thunderstorm that passed between Sleaford and Lincoln earlier this evening, taken on my phone from the train.  Apols for the quality, bit gives some indication of the scale of it.

Must say there quite good pics and to get photos that clear from a train moving is difficult! I have tried that and always blurred on the mobile. need a fast shutter speed (my phone don't have) Low quality/bit blurry better then not getting an image. (I like the road going into the distance too) some reason the pics not showing in the quote.

The days ahead look interesting, not really certain but many places could get some big thunderstorms. The SE/EA/C-SOUTH maybe just maybe an MCS storm at the weekend. Time scales change at when we might import/generate storms, so stay tuned!!

  5. A Satellite image to show you where the main activity is at the moment (20 mins ago)

The areas I have circled with yellow circles is where this action is.

    post-11361-0-49941100-1374626275_thumb.j

Lightning(Thunderstorms) activity currently in East Scotland moving northeast/north, North East England moving up the coast, and a few near to the EA coast moving north.

Some active showers moving up from France possibly to Kent moving east/ne possibly developing further

Heavy pulses of rain into SW UK and West Wales moving east/northeast. These two zones do not have any lightning activity at the moment.

That's my last update unless on on here and spot any significant changes.

    (Edit - just updated notes)

  6. "It was just awesome, I have never seen anything like that before.

"It was a full light show for about three hours. It was the most awesome light show. I have honestly never seen anything like that."

The dramatic weather events, played out over the course of several hours between 1.30am and 4.30am,

The early hours I was experiencing the edge of the London storms saw 2 cloud-cloud streaks!, quite deep thunder. Just wish I had gone out! (but it was the middle of the night!) I view only west most of the action out my view. This morning got the loud edge of another big storm. Had a fair share I suppose, if only it was on the w/nw sky ,like to watch a full on display, maybe at the weekend!

  7. Yes, I think that people in the east may well see a light show, if nothing else, later tonight. Posted Image There are also ample opportunities still for more decent storms before this all properly breaks (5-7 days or so?) imo.

Yes I think so, in fact the models showing the heat wants to hang around and keep bouncing back, not the sudden refreshing change we thought last week! some cool down some fresher air but all in all a return to heat and storms at the weekend looking increasingly likely. (MCS)

  8. GFS indicating some more stable air into the west side of the SE holding on to unstable air to our east-Kent/EA where I expect more thunderstorms overnight, some breaking out over Kent later I think. NAE indicating some disturbance(ppn) overnight this would be imported. An area lower dew points over the west side of our regions. Surface temps staying high though for many.

Just to show the lower dew points, still high to the east side UK:
    (by the morning)

    Posted Image

See the gap in the middle (central south) 16-17C dew points east, 12-13C in the middle.

  9. When the heat gets going and storms become surface based (heat generated) then I'd expect some added extras in the storms. It looks as though quite a LONG period of thunderstorm activity is likely and currently another hot weekend in the south forecast so the cool down not such to a degree of total refreshment? but some fresher air less humid at times. The storms cooling things at times too.

So before I sign off (still be reading on/off) I can say that plenty of chance to get storms for many over the next few days. Looks a very very active day with the storms and expect some even bigger/sevr ones to possibly develop today with potential MCS's tonight into the next day.

  10.

I have made indications on this satellite image.

Over Wales and the west Midlands storms moving n/ne - Blue circle = multi-cell development, expanding.

Right of the yellow line east UK repeated storm developments/back building.

Bright green circles just on the south coast(west Sussex) and over north France, potential sudden thunderstorms to develop as hits inland areas.

seems to be kicking off big time now on raintoday

Your part of the text is in the quote box should be outside! don't matter though for this one
