  1. Occluded front moving further south overnight, much colder air(very cold) pulled across SE/EA(where snow already affecting EA) this turning the rain across the Southeast to snow for many areas through Saturday. A snow risk map below to give you an image of where i expect the snow to be through Saturday more info later if i have time. Edit - areas affected shown on my map - a line From Basingstoke-Hampshire, to Basildon-Essex, down into Maidstone-Kent, highest risk of heavy snowfall, and north of that line to include much of London. Areas of Surrey, possibly east Hampshire , West and East Sussex and other parts of Kent, seeing moderate-lighter snow with some heavy snow possible to, with some accumulations also here. I expect snow to affect areas around London. The lowest risk of snow accumulations is towards the South coast and into Hampshire(sw) This is for Saturday only, a new update will be posted for Sunday snow if i have time. ESS
  2. I should be back on here late evening. The whole set-up/situation is very interesting, late March and something that is not expected by many at this stage of Spring, and that is a severe cold and snowy period, and with easterly and very strong winds setting up eventually down this way it's gonna be a serious wind chill setting in.
  3. Watch - Today any snow falling likely to be a line from Reading to Essex and north, sleet could fall elsewhere but mostly rain, until evening, i expect the cold air to sweep south and east across the SE through Friday night and Saturday morning, rain turning to snow from a line i expect from Reading to Chelmford in Essex and north from here early in the night, but as the very cold air pushes across all of EA/SE through the early hours(by which time EA affected by snowfall) of Saturday and Saturday daytime then rain turning to sleet then snow across most inland areas of the SE (inland from the South coast likely to see sleet/snow by Saturday morning across Sussex depending on precipitation amounts) other areas other than the north of Reading to Essex line that i expect to be affected by snowfall Saturday, are all areas London, Surrey, North Sussex, North Kent. - these are the highest risk areas for the snow. During Saturday eve/night freezing easterly could bring snow showers across all of the EA/SE, and Sunday to. Severe cold is on the way and for some areas a lot of snowfall. How much do i expect? worst hit areas of EA 5-15cm locally, with northern areas of the SE 5-10cm (note this is for the whole weekend events) Amounts of snow are not certain but are possible. ESS
  4. My look at the possible snow events for SE/EA. Watch - Later Thursday heavy rain, perhaps turning to sleet or wet snow overnight into Friday from London northwards(from north London most likely) up into East Anglia highest risk of snow. Friday night and Saturday as cold air fights back down this potentially releasing snow down to low levels across inland SE ( EA highest risk of snow)slight shifts south over the last few days of the fronts indicating this potential for cold air pulled more south=snow more into the S/SE. Zones in a line from Oxford down to Essex and north from there are the higher risk areas over the period of this event Thrs night-Saturday for snowfall. All areas at risk of flooding from local surface water+river and stream floods. From Sunday turning very cold with potential snowfall from NE/E into and during early next week. ESS
  5. http://www.weatheron...8-snowstorm.htm With what's potentially becoming a record cold and snowy March for some areas across Britain the above quote about the 1908 snowstorms in April shows what can happen, and it's the setup we have now that can potentially lead to those type of events.
  6. Watch - Heavy rain Thursday and Friday Flooding, risk of sleet. Chance colder air filters further south with wet snow for a time. Sunday/Monday turning potentially very cold very strong winds at times e/ne flow, Snow risk. I hope to be back tonight with any updates on the flood/snow situation. I did mention that March would be cold and wintry back in Feb...(page 14 in Spring Chat thread) But i didn't have time to get a Spring forecast done so maybe a summer one then! And i am expecting the theme(battleground) to continue for a few weeks yet, i think April will be mostly cold to start but warmth for the south later in the month with our first warm spell. My early thoughts on summer are thundery activity above average for the SE/EA, heatwaves are likely to be hottest across the SE UK, a warmer summer then last year, more heat, more sunshine, but very wet thundery spells with flooding. ESS A lot of interesting weather over the days ahead,
  7. Yeah! Really been an interesting month so far, last Sunday/Monday i experienced blizzard conditions with fine snow showers and gales, had a dusting, these affected Ashford/Stanwell/Heathrow area, and then over around the Esher area Surrey. Horsham in Sussex reported 5 inches of snow(family there) during the very cold spell. I think it was Monday evening was the coldest, never have i for years felt such a freezing wind chill in the gales! certainly one of the coldest in my top 10. The flooding has been locally quite big around here over the weekend in Stanwell-next to Heathrow(i have moved) thunder bolt reported Saturday night 815pm just south of Kingston-upon-Thames, also heavy hail also reported in that area. I'm now in a new area so new experiences. When i was in Walton-on-Thames and the areas around there, quite often during convective weather during warm/hot spells i would watch the dark skies further north as storms went around the edge(although we did get some but more were north), so now i am further north near London i might just experience more inland thunderstorms. Thanks for reading and i hope to be back on the forum, but no weather watch maps, i will post text based info though, and state areas to be affected by whatever interesting weather there may be! Some ppn inland SE now, and temps are around or below freezing and dew points low enough for this to be wintry, sleet/snow showers early i think. Thundery action poss today maybe hail. ESS
  8. Congratulations Paul! Thanks to everyone involved in keeping running such an incredible weather site, thankyou to the forecasters, and to the posters for such variety!! I have enjoyed reading the forum over the years , when i joined up a whole new experience opened up, i have learnt so much more about the weather on here, and learning something new every time i'm on here.
  9. 4/3/13(as chart above showing 510 dam line near Shetland and look what it brings with it..lots of snow to the far north
  10. Look how close the 510 dam line is to Shetland (4/3/13/ GFS) This is very very cold airmass.. wonder where it's going after this chart!
  11. 0040hrs radar(this one only shows precipitation not type) That's a 1-2cm an hour snow blob up Cambridge way.For the London zone should be snow, dew points/uppers/surface temps fine for snow
  12. From around 7th March the 850s are below -4C and at the same period precipitation largely increases... so could be hinting at a wintry outlook. I did expect some snow to develop tonight(as has done) i mentioned it last night. been to busy to make a snow map but if i did it would cover most areas! light-moderate snow. Had light snow on/off through Sunday, very cold, and the Evening was icy especially when the northeast wind blew, must be the same out there now! checking radar then lamppost..
  13. Time to sign off soon. if i got paid a pound for every flake of snow passing the lamppost tonight......
  14. It is staying in the same areas, sticking over Kent but moving a little southwest slowly, not expecting it to get to my area! (the main streamer)
  15. I checked the Meto radar for 2130hrs and compared to 0030hrs and the streamer is certainly more west.. also helping some lighter snow showers around London. Enjoyed the snow showers on and off through Saturday one gave a sprinkle with grain type snow, hope to get some more today!
  16. Copied my post from earlier in eve as now it is Sunday - http://forum.netweather.tv/topic/75992-south-east-and-east-anglia-regional-discussion-22nd-february-2013-2000hrs/page__st__440#entry2620255. Not much changed for tonight, but am watching Sunday late eve/night for snow into Kent and east side of EA. Map below is for overnight tonight/Sunday. The map is not indicating a risk of anything significant expected. Snow showers blowing in from the North Sea into areas of Kent with East Kent most likely to get the snow showers, East Sussex, Essex, with East Essex and Suffolk most likely to get the snow showers. Other parts of the SE/EA light snow flurries/showers although a heavier one is possible. Most places being dry and very cold tonight and tomorrow, although a chance we could get some snow later on Sunday from the east. I'm not expecting anymore then a dusting in places that do get snow showers. perhaps though East Kent clipper/streamer could provide 1-2cm. ESS
  17. 830PM radar Meto Where is the snow now? Snow showers around the North Sea area of the Thames Estuary moving slowly s/sw, moderate snow affecting east coast of Suffolk lighter in other areas of Suffolk snow not moving much, mostly light snow showers moving through east coast of Kent, also moderate snow showers over Camb area moving sw.
  18. I'm sure some parts of Kent do well with the snow moving in from the North Sea and clipping the area often, also thunderstorms from the channel pass through Kent to and if close to the coast then sea lightning is frequent through summer when storms miss land, i think East/Southeast Kent is a good place for lightning and snow. but further north and West Kent it's far less.
  19. stream·er 1. a. A long narrow flag, banner, or pennant. b. A long narrow strip of material used for ornament or decoration. 2. A column of light shooting across the sky in the aurora borealis. 3. An extension of rays from the sun's corona. 4. A newspaper headline that runs across a full page http://www.thefreedi...ry.com/streamer ... 5. A stream of snow showers moving up the Thames towards the London area
  20. I'm not expecting anymore then a dusting in places that do get snow showers. perhaps though East Kent clipper/streamer could provide 1-2cm. ESS
  21. There is some FIZZLE on the radar... Fizzle = dissipating precipitation. I made that word up not read it before so can add to the new words?
