Yep me too, leaving work this morning after 9 and the frost and fog were glorious! -2 according to the car thermometer! Lovely crisp whiteness everywhere.

First bit of frost for here for a while and the medium term is looking interesting to see the least although we always must remember that if it can go wrong, it will!
Aye, sods law and all that.

Mine too, thought it was the batteries, but it's not. No wireless communication between base set and outside set. Time to ask Santa for a new one I think. Any (affordable) suggestions?

Something very odd about the output in the 6-10 day range, can’t put my finger on it. Are there any forces in place in the strat?

Has ecm ever modelled blocking to the NE over Scandi at days 9 and 10 that actually verified in the end
Yes. It has. December 2009. ECM, GFS, and later UKMO, all called the brilliant northern blocking without fail from the ultra FI charts, tick tock down to T-0. It was nailed on AND delivered!
But that was nirvana. Hasn't been repeated since!- 1

Can’t wait for the first sign of shortwave drama.... Not!

Fairly benign charts for the foreseeable future. Mostly western driven with ridges of HP holding over our islands, so some frost and fog interspersed with brisk Atlantic weather fronts. But the future is considerably brighter with the Pfizer announcement yesterday! Haven't posted here in a while, but not expecting any early winter surprise so far.

Don't have as much spare time as I used to have (damned pandemic!) so don't really have the time to view either the NWP or the model output thread with any time required. Is there any joy looking forward??

More yellow rain warnings for today too. What a sodding month August has turned out to be. Still, could be trying to post in the Louisiana thread!!!

Quite like being at this point: nailed on to be hot, with the only question being how hot and how long.
Maybe for the regional threads? We're probably only going to see 20/22 degrees max.

Not sure this has appeared before. Met Eireann showing their TS yellow warning and UK Met Office TS warnings
Noticed that today, showing the MetO warnings for NI. Probably not before time!

If only we had plane data...

Hope you're all keeping well folks. Strange times. We seem to be edging out of the storm somewhat, but I urge you all to stay the course and stay apart as much as possible. As an island, we have done quite well with this. Unlike our 2 neighbours. As MS said, amazing spell of weather which made staying home easier, but alas, the Atlantic is having a say at the moment, maybe next week (and the farmers won't thank me for this) we'll see a return to warmer and drier weather.

Can't be wrong at that range surely?
You'd hope so, but the lack of flight data....

I'd nearly prefer a 2 week bout of heavy snow, hail, thunderstorms, hurricane force winds and ice, to keep everybody home!!!

Interesting article from the ECMWF - the lack of aircraft in the air may have effect on model accuracy at the moment.
Drop in aircraft observations could have impact on weather forecasts | ECMWF
WWW.ECMWF.INTOne aspect of the COVID-19 pandemic has been a reduction in the aircraft-based observations available to weather prediction centres at the start of forecasts. At ECMWF, aircraft reports are second...One of my favourite topics after the Christmas Day runs always show snowmageddon!
Flight data! Thanks for posting.

is flight data an issue here?

A good thaw set in here about 11am. Only got above zero then. About 36 hours of sub zero! Loved it!
