Storm & Convective Discussion - 01/09/14 onwards
Mesoscale replied to Thunderbolt_'s topic in Storms & Severe Weather
Possibly the longest thunderstorm I have seen for a very long time, at one point it was really intense, it seemed to cycle quite a bit and I am still hearing the odd rumble now! I am off to bed now though as I feel drained from all this excitment, I will be uploading a video tomorrow its pretty cool. -
Lightning frequency has seemed to die off here just as the rain started to get heavier. Pretty awesome though. its been going on almost an hour and a half! Picking up here again now, im bliund after what I can imagine was a positive flash of lightning because the thunder resonated through my chest!!

I think there is a storm approaching as I have seen a few flashes here, looks like its dying out now though? maybe it will pep back up? -
Just had a few flashes of lightning but the mist is making it hard to determine the direction, all quiet now though.

I can hear the thunder from the storm just north of me, quite a bit of thunder to be honest, just missed me though, bugger. Oh well we had one last night I can't really complain.

Watching the radar the wind has shifted from ENE to NW direction, crazy, look at that stuff in the channel also! Eastbourne, Brighton, Hove or Dover could be in the firing line.

I normally suffer from anxiety during storms but this is awesome! When I was younger this would have terrified me, now its one of my favourite things. -

I just had the brightest longest lasting flash of lightning I have ever seen it was followed by long rumbling thunder, seems like its back building a bit. Its quite relaxing to be honest. -

I just had two bits of lightning followed by very quiet thunder? even though it was relativity close? Anyone else experience this? ITs a game endorsed by NASA where you build space craft to get to other planets with real physics. its pretty good if you have patience. -

No lightning here, I was hoping for at least a bang, I was only alerted to the oncoming rain during the BBC independence coverage. When Andrew Neil said they had thunder over Westminster lol, I was playing Kerbal Space Program, trying to get back from minmus when my craft randomly exploded. haha -

Any chance of more forming? To the east? -
I went to Eastbourne yesterday to see them, they came past a few times with a hurricane and a spitfire, it was a great day but it rained for quite a bit of it. My favourite was definatley the Eurofighter Typhoon FGR4, it was so powerful sounding and it just rattled in your lungs. Incredible.Feels autumnal out there today, considering its 18 degrees this would have felt warm in spring.

Awesome storm totally unexpected as I have been busy, I was worried at first as I could hear what I thought was a tornado but what I think it was was actually the sound of the rain and hail coming.Crazy amount of movement in the almost shelf cloud, some pretty close CGs here for a time, the ones that dazzle you for a while, just like a Flash Grenade.

I can see the lightning from here in the most southern part of Hertfordshire! If only it would come down here! -
Loving this summer, hasn't been particularly sunny though, reminds me of July in Florida, sunny in the morning but starts getting cloudy as the day goes on as convection sets in.I think I have seen more lightning this weekend then the whole of last year to be honest, the only problem is we were hit directly only once, Not that I am complaining. How long are we anticipating this to carry on? Its a bit hot at night but I think that's making it more bare able as I am now getting used to sleeping in a room that reaches 28c every night if not higher.Coincidently 28.4C here at the moment with a dew point of 17c with 50% humidity.

Are we talking supercells tonight? The shelf cloud (could have been a roll cloud it was too dark to see whether or not it was attached to the storm) was insane, I have never seen one in the all the time I have been interested in weather, the lightning was intense with one of the bits of lightning beading out. Didn't get a whole lot of rain though probably the best night time lightning storm for a good 10 to 15 years around here, I have only seen one storm that surpass last nights and that was in the Bahamas before Hurricane Irene.
