  1. Hi Paul...

    I found the following useful

a 4 way multiplug adaptor is a must - most of the hotel rooms only have one socket

    a waterproof kagoul

Suncream (Although I'd pick it up in Walmart, it's LOADS cheaper than here) - you get cooked surprisingly quickly even on the gas station stops..

Ditto Bug spray, UK stuff doesn't seem to have the same effect, and is also cheaper there

Bounce Tumble dryer sheets - we all threw them in our bags to keep clothes smelling a bit fresher, although quite a lot of hotels had laundry rooms if you were so inclined to use them.

    A warm Hoodie

Bottle opener if you're a beer man

Tea bags if you are a tetley drinker, most places it's just coffee....

    Tripod

iPod with a suitably banging soundtrack for the car.

Will add as I think of things....

Can I just add as a coffee drinker...bring coffee!!! US coffee never seems to hit the spot and we won't have time for refills...cray.gif

  2. It is certainly shocking isn't it. I am booked on tour 4 and it is a very sobering and scary thought that I will be there in 9 days. I have a huge mix of feelings right now... firstly shock, horror and sorrow for those affected. I would never wish this or anything like it on anyone. Yet the scientist in me is conflicting those feelings because I want to see and experience this awesome natural phenomena and I know that me being there won't make a jot of difference.

I have to say that if I were totally honest... I am not particularly looking forward to going now. When I booked the chase holiday I hadn't really figured on it being like this. Of course, I know these storms are dangerous and that they can kill but when it actually happens it puts everything in a totally different perspective.

Hi Paul, I'm currently on T3 and will also be on T4 . I have to admit after today I actually questioned whether I'd want to spend the next couple of weeks out here chasing. At the end of the day we know the risks and sadly today was the worst case scenario.

But what we see out here is a spectacular experience you can't get anywhere else and I couldn't give that up despite hearing todays exceptional events unfold over the radio.

  3. I could with the hotel to send their bus to collect all of our arrivals on the 18th i did once have the managers email address but do not have it now. it cost John a small fortune to phone the motel from the airport.

    Tom

I thought there was a toll free phone for the hotel at the airport ? Happy to talk to the Best Western to warn them on your behalf. I just need an idea of numbers (14?) and an arrival time
  4. On the topic of hotels, Travelodge Terminal 5 are charging £21 for a room. According to the website National Express run a hotel hoppa to the airport which is 2 miles away for £4...A bit of a bargain if you're not a morning person!

  5. Yes but the Central Plains and Northern Plains end of May and June were fantastic in 2011, the added snowcover from the last week or so is only going to help in trapping moisture in the drought hit areas, 2010/2011 winter was not especially cold or snowy, whereas 2009/2010 was (Remember the -23c near Elk City that winter)

If we can get some more active weather from the Sub Tropical Jet affecting Texas things can and will change very quickly.

Fair point..I was just surprised to see you mention the States East of I-30 as the melt from the severe winter should add significant ground moisture into the Central Plains. It's only a tiny piece of the puzzle but assuming the Jet Stream doesn't decide to apply for permanent residency in Canada I think we could be in for a more traditional season possibly more Northerly inclined.

  6. I have a hunch this Season is going to be mostly East of the I-35 Corridoor, places like Iowa, Illinois, Missouri and Arkansas could be hit harder than recent years more especially the early part of May, expecting the Northern Plains to be a slow starter this year and not until June we start seeing the Dakotas come into play. Western Kansas and the Panhandles of Texas and Oklahoma, along with the Colorado Prairies could be another dustbowl in 2013!

Looks a traditional Neutral year to me but if we can get a trend towards El Nino late winter into early spring then the above could change quite quickly!

  7. Clare, congrats on the first shot that is stunning.

Clearly the Hordle shield completely died yesterday, so you can talk to me again now.

You can tell Sherminator, I had a word with the "Big Man" to make it come good for the last day for you.

And.......it seemed to have worked, oh well that's one I owe him

Thanks Quentin, it was a long time due!

  8. It's late but here is my best (and favourite) shot I think I may have ever taken Posted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image Thank you AZ for playing the game Posted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image
