Finally there's a live feed from MI and it's looking pretty darned good!!
It's as nasty as it looks on the radar
-
Fair enough, but these guys pin point them and i would of thought a few miles would make a big difference to saving lives?
I agree they are a good source of information and make more people aware of the dangers inherent with severe weather
-
To be fairm Tornado Sirens are not even intended for any use other than an outdoors warning siren. The expectation is that people should use NOAA weather radios as their primary source of severe weather information and warning. Much more information can be given through this medium than with the use of sirens which have a very limited range of tones. For some reason though, takeup of weather radios is very low, despite them being heavily subsidised and very cheap. Think my weather radio cost about $13 which is nothing for something which can save your life... I do think there is an element of anti-government sentiment which will make any federally enforced NOAA radio laws fail in certain areas of the USA. People in general don't like being told what to do, even if it is for their own good.
very true, buti t's not necessarily just weather radios, I read an article just after Joplin, saying that tornado shelters are not part of the building code requirements in such areas which is odd considering the rules and regs on buildings in US earthquake zones.
I guess it comes down to money and politics.

After watching the vid Cookie posted, what a great job storm chases do by warning the public which direction the tornados are moving in, so thay can stay safe. They seem to do a better job than there own goverment.
To be fair the NOAA do a fantastic job in warning the public and despite huge budget cuts in other areas the Nexrad network is currently being upgraded. This is in addition to the good coverage from the News networks. The downfall to all this is there is no federal requirement to have tornado sirens or shelters in vulnerable areas

Hi There, I'm in the US at the time of the annular solar eclipse and wondered what photography tips people may have. I'll be using a Nikon D3100 with a 200mm zoom lens and planning to use a DIY solar filter using Baader Solar film.

Hopefully my other half is going to allow me to come out with her Canon DSLR. First time I've taken a good DSLR camera chasing, been out 3 times before this year. So may need to some advice, especially lightning photography, from the pros coming out on Tour 4! Which reminds me, need to purchase a remote release.
Have just realised how high the photography bar is going to be on tour 4.... :help:
-
I have been Nikon owner for some time now, so if I can help let me know.
Thanks Dave
I have a book I brought from waterstones all about the d3100. I will bring it along for you. It helped me a lot.
And I've just found out there are 2 spurs fans on tour 4. Being a Gooner it could get messy!
Don't worry Craig and I won't hold it against you
-
Quiz away. Your not going to Oxford next weekend are you?
Hi Lewis , Thanks yes i will but won't be staying at the same hotel. I'm just struggling with one of the setups on the camera as someone else set my old camera up for me and the manual isn't being helpful

Sadly not a simple as this. It maybe worth checking with them as there may be a clause in the small print which allows them to change the cover especially if they only refer only to Activity 3 cover but they should notify you in writing if they do make any changes, because as Dave says you've entered into a contract....
