Ok so folks on tour 5 let me explain to you how this goes.
It's quite simple.
You fly out to the USA
You socialise with a bunch of like narrow minded Brits, extroverts from the homeland you might call them.
You cruise the US countryside looking for marmots, and snakes.
WTF are you doing on this tour, it's got the best two storm killers known to man on board?
Namely, the infamous, I wont get busted this time coz it's Colorado, & not f....g Texas Monseigneur Michaelwaite
And the infamous Dorset killer, yours truly.
Now....
Given there are still free spaces, is it not time to RECONSIDER your tour, because should you want to see TORNADO'S, ignoring the Sherm's "As much chance on any tour.. jibe....." you ain't got a cat in hell's on this one.
Sorry, insurance claims for no shows of tornado's are not accepted.
Peace brother
but we have Ian Curruthers so this should counteract "the Hordle Shield"

Yes I'll be there too
Flight gets in at tea time!
Pretty much sounds as though we'll all be there
-
Certainly am. Arriving on the 30th for a fun filled evening in the Great Western
30th for me too! Looks like now is a good time to get flights if you haven't done already through BA. They appear to be coming out at the same price as in October last year when I got mine. Happy trails
I'm also there on the 30th - should be a good laugh. Let's see if we can make Walmart run out of beer
I too will be landing on the 30th May so will see you all at the GW in Irving in the evening.
My BA flight lands 15:35 at DFW.
Cool, I'll head over on the 30th

<happy dancing> main flights booked........is everyone on T4 arriving a day early ?
-
flight still hovering around £820. Hoping these will drop a fair bit soon
Have been looking for AZ flights today along with others.. The cost is in leaving the UK which was the same issue last year :0( Also stitched up by the Olympics
-
ESTA's run out, Passport has 4 months left on it , Insurance about to expire , no flights or hotels booked and the MOT runs out while I'm in the US...time to come out of hibernation and get a wriggle on :wallbash:
-
Hi Guys, sorry but I'm pulling out..see you in the US
-
Not entirely sure, but I just took basic holiday insurance with me last year, should be enough, though I believe an upgrade to a years cover with walkabout isn't too much more
Craig
I had an annual Walkabout policy last year and it was an extra £30 on the price of a single trip policy so felt it was worth it for a chase holiday and the AZ trip.

Like all pieces of tech, it will have it limitations, which is why I went for the cheap option. If it is anything like the ND filters then it will end up in the bottom of the bag and I go back to last years tried and tested method. keep shooting until Paul threatens to get out of the car and thow you in the back.
I'll take that anytime!!! although I'll be in the car and let the remote release which I originally refused to buy (until I was dragged to a camera shop in AZ!!) do all the work!
Whisper it Quietly but on Saturday It Is.........................................
100 Days to go!!!!!!!!!! :clapping: :drinks:
3 weeks of Stormchase heaven....happy happy days!

Dave
I have seen many people on the Stormchases try these triggers and In my opinion believe it or not they actually work better in the Uk than in the USA.
Now the reason
In an average Supercell you are looking at about 30-40 bolts per minute if you take all the anvil zits into the equation the end result is the trigger firing off almost constantly and NOT Picking out your beautiful CG Strike as it loaded for the intercloud zap. This happened to Pat Lightning Timmer and he almost crushed the thing under his foot!
In an average Uk Storm of 1-2 bolts per minute it will pick up some nice daytime Lightning shots (If we ever get any storms that is)
Just a thought and would not like this device to mess up your daytime lightning shots.
Paul S
Kinda have to agree with Paul's point I picked up a trigger for Arizona last year and got very excited when my camera kept clicking away in the field , only to find very few lightening in my shots when I uploaded them. On the plus side I did get some cracking shots I probably wouldn't have normally taken so may still find some space in my bag this year for it

So...whos going on tour 1?! Bit quiet in here!
Hi Lewis , Almost there I'm just not sure I want to give up chasing in 2013 to go. I suspect however my mini trip to AZ in May will result in a deposit being paid !!
-
No confirmation of the cancellation yet, the site I saw yesterday claimed 100 % it had been axed, but today have backtracked somewhat ! Could be the site generating some traffic for itself, although a more general feeling is that it may well be over, many people awaiting word from discovery who remain tight-lipped along with others associated with the show, watch this space I guess ?
Craig.
Reed Timmer apparently confirmed the series was cancelled earlier this month at a convention. But could be chinese whispers as he was also quoted saying that he wouldn't be appearing in the next season

If I can sort something out to get me on this years tour remind me not to get hammered and then spend a 400 mile journey sparked out in the back of a car in 100F heat. Grim.
At least you weren't alone in the 4 State hangover, it's probably the most memorable one I'll ever have......I was most greatful for the 3 Maccy D Frozen Strawberry Lemonades that day!
-
Hi all hope everyone had a smashing time last night I must say my head hurts this morning it was good to see so many people there so merry christmas everyone and will see you all in Oxford
Ian
Thanks All for a fun night . It's good to read I wasn't alone with my hangover !

so regarding booking flights what should I do?
Chapter 11 basically means the company can still operate normally without paying it's debts (for the short term) and given that AA have confirmed in the news they are committed to the new fleet I would take it as a sign that they have a cash flow problem, which is why they need to need re organise and cut costs.
Flights should continue but If anything prices may go up more to a BA level and they'll cut the less profitable routes. The problem that made me take note was the amount of staff attrition which suggests a managerial issue so I don't think there is a real need to worry about our flights to the US next year
-
It's actually the parent company that's filed for Chapter 11, given that AA put an order in for 460 new planes in July I can see the reason for panic in some quarters although would assume there's still some $ in the bank.
I'd also be surprised if there wasn't some kind of rescue package put into place as they have some major hubs in Chicago, Dallas etc which if AA went bust would be badly affected economically.
Doshwise those who have bought flights with a credit card should be covered if AA go bust and can't fly you out....

If I have left anyone out let us know
Ian
Hi Ian, you've missed out Tony (the ole man) but he's only a definately maybe as he has a work deadline
-
Tony (my other half) is a maybe, it's work dependent so will either show up on the night or not
-
And we got a lovely Lightning Fest on the way back with Storms all the way from Flagstaff to about Denver before I Finally conked out. I thought the BA Pilot's positioning around those Storms was pretty spot on
LOL, I'd forgotten about that ..we were just spoilt for storms on that trip <sigh>
-
Liverpool St is awesome for me as it's stumbling distance to the train ... no preference for me on dates as should be around
-
Total eclipse
Paul mentioned it and suggested that if possible I arrange to be out there and ready to roll for the19th May but a lot will depend on what tornadic action there is at that time, My flight has been booked and i will be there on the 19th.
Tom
Hi Tom, Thanks...I was planning to fly out a couple of days earlier anyway to get over the jetlag and post flight grumpiness so I'll be loitering somewhere
I was trying to be subtle.
I renamed them Guantanamo air after the last trip. I've sat in the front and back of many airline cabins, and constantly the Americans come low on the list of quality service. Hence I'm traveling BA. More cost but I know what I'm getting.
I travelled to the US twice this year, once with AA to Dallas and the second time with BA to Phoenix, I have to say BA beat AA hands down (even with the terrible in flight food) .

Claire you will need to be here to see here it:
Thanks Quentin, I'd realised. Sadly I can't be in two places at once . I just wanted to see what if anything the guys are upto , Otherwise I'll need to change my plans as it seems really daft to miss this when I'm only 1 or 2 states across... There is one in Oz later in 2012 but I'm not giving up me Kansas/Colorado/Dakotas Storms
Photo Processing Software Advice
in Photography Equipment / Hints and tips
Posted
Until recently, I hadn't bothered to process my RAW files as I preferred to have more "natural" images until I started to use Picasa as a more functional tool rather than just for importing.
The Nikon NX software seems fairly basic so I've started to look at both Adobe Light Room and Adobe Photoshop. I'm quite interested in Light Room which imports & catalogues files in addition to having some useful photo editing functions such as spot removal & noise reduction. It also costs alot less than CS5 and the Elements range .
I was wondering what software other people use,and whether you'd use Light Room as stand alone software
