  1. Bit of a close one earlier, the lightning was quite infrequent but did shoot orange sparks from a telephone pole out of shot on the left about 20 feet away. The surge must of travelled down the cable from the strike on the right side of the frame. Luckily I was sheltering from the rain, 10 mins earlier I was outside the car with tripod setup. 2. The low dp is a good thing as It should keep the cloud bases free of clag.
  3. I think this was the same morning I got a similar photo, IIRC July 26th 2019.
  4. The north sea clag usually cloaks any lightning when the surface winds are E or NE. Especially as the sea is still cold from winter. Perhaps next week some homegrown storms may be more visible.
  5. Squally wintry showers from last Thursday. 1245593354_PXL_20220224_1542307552.mp4
  6. I planned to go out about 4am, so held off taking shots of Orion from home, looking for Geminids. I didn't see any Geminids. Then decided to go out at 5am. Got a couple of widefield shots, but cloud arrived at 5.30am. Should of gone out at 4am....
  7. Haven't tried as it was cloudy,It's quite low now I may try tmrw morning, need a clear eastern horizon about 5.30am. SpaceWeather.com -- News and information about meteor showers, solar flares, auroras, and near-Earth asteroids WWW.SPACEWEATHER.COM
  8. Early last Wednesday I got a few more shots of Leonard, saw some Geminids too. I was able to see the comet with binoculars, it's just a small fuzzy patch. Not sure if this rain will clear in time for me to get a look later, but as others mentioned it's brighter, but closer to the horizon now. https://en.sat24.com/en/gb
  9. Hi The best time to try and get a photo is 4.30-6am. I've seen it with binoculars, but it's very hard to see with naked eye. It's in the east early am. 10. The upper winds are west-northwest, the showers are quite shallow and moving below the upper winds The cirrus is arriving now from the west. Ending my hope of photographing the comet tonight...
  11. I would try 3 second exposures to stop the star trails. And then you could try stacking them, I did this before I got the Astrotracer, and I stacked about 80 shots. My zoom lens is f4 max, but at 300mm it's f5.8. I've used my f2.8 90mm macro lens before, it does a good job stopped down to f3.2. One thing about using 300mm is the wind can ruin your shots, it shakes the lens as I found out on Thursday.
  12. Hi That's the whale, and hockey stick galaxies. I used an Astrotracer GPS that fits on the camera hotshoe. It's only compatible with Pentax DSLR cameras. It can be a bit hit n miss, and relies on GPS to move the camera sensor. I got 20 sec ondexp at 300mm without much trailing. Then I stacked 12 exposures in deepskystacker. As long as the stars are in focus it usually stacks the photos ok. It's a free download , and there are lots of info on YouTube about it. You can stack short exposures of a few seconds, but you would need several to get the exposure time. On Thursday I tried again to photo the comet, the Astrotracer was playing up. I ended up so cold I was shaking too much to focus my lens. I did question my sanity , on the plus side I saw a few bright meteors, and 3 flashes of lightning in the North sea.
  13. On November 25th we had clear skies and a bright moon. I was able to get this shot from the garden. I used a Pentax k70 and 55-300mm zoom.
  14. As it was clear last night I decided to go out about 1am untill 3am. Only peaked at KP4 so didn't see anything. Saw a few meteors, one was moderately bright a Taurid. Took this with my pixel 4a on a tripod. Edited this slightly in phone.
  15. Brum looking ok tonight after midnight. Further south east is dung
  16. Saw the clouds light up earlier to my south east about 11pm ish, Likely a Perseid fireball, I've seen four dim Perseids tonight. Cloud has won so time to go home.
  17. Last Friday I saw three meteors, one was a Perseid. Not really clear skies forecast for the peak of the shower, maybe some clear spells though. Last year I saw distant lightning over the channel and Perseids. Took these in a park a couple of miles from town.
