    Bit of a noisy night here last night! Top gust here in Gulberwick 81mph. Other top gusts in Shetland - Foula 98mph, Fair Isle 92mph, Lerwick 77mph, Baltasound 67mph. Some power cuts up here, ferries cancelled and schools closed. Reports of widespread power outages in Orkney, Radio Orkney is off the air due to transmitter damage and aparrently the top gust down there was 138mph!

    All kicking off again up here. Already getting gusts in excess of 60mph. Temp is dropping at the rate of over 2C/hr and is currently 1.9C, dewpoint dropping at the rate of 1.4C/hr and currently 1.5C, showers already turned to sleet, won't be long before its snow. Kirkwall in Orkney already had a gust of 81mph.

    Already getting quite unpleasant up here, driving rain and gusting in excess of 50kts. Expecting Violent Storm 11 in the next few hours and latest gale warning issued by the Meto says Hurricane Force 12 expected after about 3pm.

    Very up and down at the moment. Temps getting up to 3C between showers but dropping rapidly to around 0C in showers. Lerwick and surrounding areas quite bad, south mainland not so bad. Aparrently there was some thundersnow during the night and some of the power cables have been zapped by lighting so about 3000 folk in the north of Shetland without power at the moment. Total of 7 schools shut at the moment.

    Pretty atrocious conditions here at the moment, heavy wet snow being driven on a Force 7 NW wind which is gusting to 55kts.

    Indeed Coast. Certainly expecting some more here later this afternoon and tonight looks quite interesting with the NW winds expected to reach gale force in the early hours.
