  1. Was having a wee nosey on the net and looking back at stuff on last years cold!! On the link below it shows the satellite map of the UK snow cover! Its also gives a list of the coldest spots in the UK! The cold really was extreme for our wee countries standards. Katesbridge recorded -17.8! That's just amazing! http://www.guardian.co.uk/news/datablog/2010/dec/20/winter-weather-coldest-places-britain Would be great to see this again!!
  2. Metcheck is balls but its nice seeing daytime temps of 0 and snow showers!! Lol!! Won't be there tomorrow! There was some amount of rain earlier! Left Belfast at 5.30 and the M2 was a nightmare!!
  3. Was driving home from Belfast earlier and there was an American guy being interviewed about the winter of 1947 on Today FM and how it affected people! It was really interesting. He said that during that winter there was an anticyclonic system that pushed out of Russia towards Scandanavia and this flooded cold air into the UK and Ireland. He said that there was so much snow that parts of Ireland came to a standstill! He said that the snow was so deep in places that only the tops of chimneys could be seen on cottages. After 5 consecutive blizzards people had to be dug out of their homes as snow was over 20 feet deep in places! Can only imagine what that would have been like as we struggle to cope with 20cms! Anyway just thought i would share this. Also here's a link to an article i found , some of you may have seen it before. http://www.turtlebunbury.com/history/history_irish/history_irish_big_snow.htm I don't really trust the long range forecast on Metcheck but put in your postcode or city and take a look at the start of December. I would be really happy with that!
  4. Lol this forum really does amaze me! It's one run!! Chill out!! The models will obviously chop and change!
  5. Oh I look forward to your forecast! Love your post there you little tease!! Lol!
  6. Nice to hear your thoughts Watcher! Always good to hear!
  7. Thanks for that Storm! I'm not good at models or anything and rely on peoria like your good self to keep me informed! There certainly is a bit more excitement in the model threads tonight! I'm just glad to see that euro high being flattened but just like last year things are moving in the right way as we head towards the start of winter!
  8. Correct me if i am wrong but didn't we have a decent winter in 2009? As was said above its better to get all of the mild weather out of the way in November!
  9. I will have my own mobile photo studio. Mostly family portraits and baby photos but the way i see it is that it opens up opportunities for me! Was going nowhere in the call centre! Took me a couple of years of applying for jobs to get out of there! Lol! Thought i had no chance when i applied for this one! Here's their website! http://www.pixifoto.co.uk/
  10. Cheers lads. Got a job with PixiFoto as a photographer so it will suit me! Got a company van to which is even better! Glad to be out of a call centre after 3 and a half years!!
  11. Well we will just have to wait and see! To be honest i have been glued to the model thread even though there's been allot of bickering and disagreement on there lately! I check in on it every morning just to see if things are changing but it's like this, not one person in there knows what its gonna be like in a few weeks time as the models can change so much! Maybe one morning i will check the model thread and have a nice surprise! Lol! Also i have just started a new job which will have me travelling around Northern Ireland and most days i will be going up over the Glenshane! Could be a few tricky mornings ahead of me this winter! Lol
  12. 100% agree with this! Some people in the model thread have been suggesting more NW incursions! This would suit me to the ground as we would do well out of this! Anyway here's hoping! Would love the see our little Irish forum on overdrive!
  13. At last some interesting weather! Very stormy and gusty out tonight with some very heavy rain! Only bad thing is there is a bit of flooding and allot of surface water on the roads! It beats the dull murky weather that we have recently been getting! It's a proper Autumn night out there but its great being sat infront of a blazing fire!
  14. I like you optimism Ginger! If only we could depend on winter to come every year with snow and ice! Would be great to be able to look forward to each winter and to get ready for it to come just like you have been doing! Just can't wait for the boring muck to clear off and give us some more interesting weather! I would love the Watcher to come on and give his thoughts as he has been very quiet lately! He also made some very good calls last winter!
  15. This mild weather is really starting to left trouser leg me off!! The odd frost here and there would be good but all we are seeing is mild muck! Lol! As i said before i don't really mind if i don't see snow till mid December or January but all this talk of winter being mild throughout is doing my head in! People really need to chill out and realize that winter hasn't even started yet! Thinking back on last year things changed so quick so there's still loads of time for this to happen! Anyway rant over! Gonna go out and water my daffodils now! This heat really getting to them!!
  16. Been following the model thread the past couple of days! It really does amaze me what the weather can do to people, i think some of these guys just spend their lives on here! But besides that its nice to see that the models are showing that Euro high on the move at last! Hopefully there will be some good news for us over the next few weeks! :smilz38:
  17. To be honest i'm not really worried about the next few weeks! If we can get something building to be in place by the end of the month then i'm happy! The thing with getting cold this early is that it may not last for the rest of the winter!! I would even love to see the cold coming around the middle of December then getting blasted all the way through January! Time will tell but things starting to look a bit more interesting! Also i had to drive from Derry to Dublin this morning for a job interview! It was a cracking morning but the contrast in temps was mad! Left Derry at 6.45am and it was 2 degrees! By the time i got down passed Monaghan it was -4.5 with thick fog then on the way home it was 12! Lol!
  18. -1 here in Derry! Just back from dj'ing and the wife's car is frozen! Love it! Lol!
  19. Well I'm hoping for a bit of frost tonight! First time the gritters have been out all year!
  20. We have torrential rain here at the minute! The skies are black!! Hoping for some thunder!
  21. Been looking at some videos on you tube from this year and last year!! Some crackers on there from the UK and the US! Had a good laugh at the fellas reaction on the first vid! This vid explains a wee bit for amateurs like me! Lol This was also a nice forecast with loads of snow coming in later in the week! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZA0IebfBCn0&feature=related This vid was taken on a friend of mines security camera! Its lousy but funny!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WceGzLVqMeo Really hope we get some of this weather this winter! Just trying to lighten the mood on here as its pretty boring at the minute! If any of you have anything that you would like to post up then go for it! Will pass the time while we are waiting for that block to our east to clear off!!
  22. Some serious snow fell across the water with that storm! Some places saw 67cms of snow! The fella in this video said that the were having very mild temps then all of a sudden they were hit with the storm so it just goes to show how quickly weather can change! I have actually stopped reading the other threads as they are just depressing! People expecting far to much to early! I wouldn't normally be expecting any snow or real cold for at least another month! http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-15518637
  23. Congrats Sundog! I know all about the sleepless night as we had a son 3 months ago and its hard work! Only good thing about it is you will be able to watch lamp posts at 4 in the morning when winter arrives!! Anyway all i have to say about the weather is that its totally boring and by the looks of things its gonna be like this for the next few weeks at least! Really wish we had something to look forward to but i also have to keep reminding myself that its only October! Lol! As i've said before, i think some peoples expectations are set a little bit to high after last years epic cold!
  24. Would be nice if we had something like this forecasted!! http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-15502380
  25. That's really bad!! My thoughts are with his family!! Really bad way to go!! If you are affected by the flooding then try and stay safe! Hopefully we get a break from this rain soon!
