All doom and gloom on here today. I'm no model watcher but things were looking so promising last night. What has changed today. As seen over the past week or two things can change dramatically so i'm keeping an open mind for this weekend. Anything can happen. Looking forward to the rest of the model outputs today. What times do the different models roll out?

I was really pleased with the snow we got this year. We had lying snow for 8 days in a row and alot of ice days. Can't really complin but i've a feeling that come the weekend we could see something special.

Well we will just have to wait and see what the new year brings us. Hopefully it will be a winter to remember.

Met Eireann dont seem to be too enthusiastic about the whole thing really atm which is a disappiontment. Hopefully in a day or two their thinking will change for the better. But as you rightly say time will tell.

I really can't stand watching the Irish Forecasters. Don't think i've watched one in about 2 years. Metcheck going for 5 days of falling snow here in Derry but that is very very likely to change but one thing i've noticed is that it is consistant with the net weather forecast for my area. Very interesting times ahead and i would love for my wee girl to see her very first white christmas.

I would say theres more of a slight chance here in the NW. I'll post the pics next week sure.

Give things a chance to set in. We had an ice day yesterday and temps are up to 9.5 today. It was always forecast to turn briefly milder. I for one am really looking forward to this weekend. Should be fun if it comes off. We have been let down so many times in the past. My area always does extremely well through these kind of setups

Looking at everyones posts the past week or two i was very doubtful that we would see anything, especially from an easterly. Well was i wrong!! I'm in Derry and from saturday night we look to be getting a right pasting of the white stuff and it looks to be last well into next week. Think this will turn out to be something special. How good would it be if it lasted right the way through Christmas? :wacko:

Don't really post on here much but the past week and a half has been a real roller coaster. Have enjoyed reading everybodys comments but have one question. Is N.Ireland likely to see much from this as there hasn't been much talk about this area. Have we more chance later on when the winds shift more northerly. Net weather is giving us a 40% chance of a white christmas.

I'm in Derry in N.Ireland and i'm not expecting much from this as we are too far west. We never really do well from easterlies except in breakdown situations and even when that happens its short lived. Only time i remember getting snow in an easterly was 3 years ago, think it might have been around february time. A front appeared out of nowhere and came in from the Irish Sea. It wasn't even forecast and gave us 5 hours of heavy snow. Was really spectacular to be caught out like that. The roads weren't even gritted and there was total whiteout conditions. I'm very wary of easterlies but that event just shows that anything can happen. <_<

Snow turned to rain and alot of the snow has thawed now. Hard to believe that we had nearly 4 inches of snow a couple of hours ago and its nearly all gone now. Even at 200ft the snow had turned to rain. Ah well it was great while it lasted. A week long event and plenty of snow so i'm happy.

Has been snowing since 8.30 this morning. Looks to be clearing a bit now. This band has left another 5cms in my area. Going to the hills now for some sledging. Good luck everybody

Had great fun today as well. Went and bought 6 big rubber rings and headed up to the hills behind Derry. I felt like a 10 year old again. Hoping to go and do the same in the morning again but it just depends if theres any more snow falling in the morning as if there is theres no way we could drive up there, it was treachorous today!!

I'm really loving this cold spell. We have got 4 days of lying snow now and theres been hardly any thaw at all. Can't see it thawing much tomorrow either!! Dice if you want a day in the snow head to the coleraine mountain. B)

Well this has been a great wee snowy spell for Derry. Theres been lying snow for 2 days now and theres hardly been any thaw. Have been having heavy showers all day and these have added to snow cover. I can see from Derry right out towards the Glenshane and its just a pure blanket of snow. Would be great if this lay all weekend and then topped up on sunday. The snow has hardly thawed all day only on the roads but the past couple of showers has put a thin layer on the roads again. Its like a bottle out there.

Showers starting to filter in now again. Just had a shower of hail and snow which left the roads white again. What amazed me this morning was the amount of snow around my area compared to a mile down the road where there was hardly anything and i'm only at 95 meters.

Well from what i can gather i think i'm in for some more showers tonight. Latest radar shows a clump of showers heading down the western side of Scotland. Local forecast also metioned this. And i love it. Noted something that the local bbc forecaster said earlier about the possibilty of more heavy snow at the weekend and they said they would be watching it closely. Whats the storey about this??
