  1. It’s been snowing for the last wee while with a small covering, it will amount to a mere white blip but it’s still a reminder that it will probably make some appearances up until early May, or a time when nobody can really be ar5ed with it. Spent the recent frosty start/blue sky days in the central/southern highlands. A sunny Arrochar Alps and a ridiculously glass-like Loch Tay were hard to stop looking at.
  2. Another 2 to 3 cms overnight so about 18cms as I left this morning. Working in East Sutherland and it’s a lovely fresh morning with clear skies and some sun, no bad at all
  3. Late afternoon has particularly pepped up, some hypnotic spells IMG_6214.MOV
  4. About 14cm cover and heavy snow on and off this morn with it blowing in open areas. The serene backdrop a welcome distraction from news watching
  5. Couple of inches of exceptionally blowy snow, some exposed minor routes will be filled in over night no doubt
  6. Dreadful day with cold gales, surface water galore and heavy rain which has finally relented to very heavy snow in the last half hour. Last summer felt particularly bereft of lightening so that would be a nice surprise if it pops up *(upon seeing the next post maybe hold off with the lightening surprises! Good grief, glad all safe)
  7. Looks nuts. You’d probably have more success navigating the bottom of Loch Ness than that. No idea what on earth that was howling past around 5.30 this morning but it had sufficient wind and heavy rain to feel as if the house had been placed in a car wash.
  8. At times it’s been far from pretty and the sodden, windy and mild interludes (like Sunday morning) really aren’t fun but at least these last few February days have been undoubtedly ‘winter’. Friday evening local walk Saturday in Badenoch Return from a day jaunt to Lothian was a snowy one last night, Ralia being the best bit
  9. As with some of our Aberdeenshire contingent and parts to our south it’s snowed all day in east Highland with some interesting wee balls of ice floating in the local river
  10. It’s been great. Tried to capture it rising while out with the dog earlier using the phone’s night mode but it just ended up like a trippy sunrise
  11. The most driving fun I’ve ever experienced was Reykjavik to Vik and back one March a few yrs back. The speed and confidence they drove at in exceptionally wintry conditions was everything you’d expect from a country so used to it. Coaches with tyres you’d have on a JCB. What a place. It was like Skye on stilts. Some heavy sleety crap rattling sideways through Inverness just now. Pretty horrid.
  12. Yesterday afternoon’s deluge turned to snow around teatime, automated forecast had us down for about 6hrs heavy snow, in reality it translated to about an inch of the stuff by midnight. This morning there was less fanfare in the local forecast with about 8cms and continuing heavy showers providing a slow but steady commute on the A9. I generally take automated forecasts with a snow shovel of salt, maybe reliable within a couple hours or so. Which leaves plenty scope for surprises..
  13. Amazing. Have seen mammatus up here but never that impressive! Captivating and eerie in equal measure
  14. A small covering upon returning home from work yesterday which froze up. Further couple of cms (couple of inches in places) overnight with temp widely around 0c. The next few days looks a rare old mess to forecast.
  15. Aye. This. A wintry mix this morning, some wet snow showers while working circa 200m Inverness. Cold and grim but some spells of sunshine. ‘Dudley and Eunice’ sounds like some hellish Canary Wharf corporate law firm, or maybe a 1920s trapeze act? Either way I hope they don’t impact on people too drastically and the candles can remain in the cupboard.
  16. Snow/sleet/rain then snow showers yesterday during a largely despicable day’s weather. This morning has been much improved with a low of -5c. Wasn’t a stellar sunrise over the Cairngorms but still lovely to watch even though it was accompanied by a truly bitter breeze.
  17. Haha. There’s a couple of inches here but not expecting Pingu to come knocking at the door come tomorrow sadly. Some of the showers around today have been pretty x-rated though Hopefully tonight manages to deliver some surprises for people
  18. Glad to hear you’ve seen an improvement Puffy Heavy snow showers blowing in on quite a gale and a covering as I left this morning A similar story in Inverness with some beefy showers blowing in
  19. Random useless information but I understand some of Cameron’s family history goes back to an old Croft on Drummossie moor (Muckovie farm) overlooking Inverness. (Maybe that’s where his um..interest in pigs came from? ). A useable day. Bit breezy at times with some sun around. Plenty snow melt in the 2nd half of the day.
  20. Pretty much echoing Halfamile’s post, lovely snowy day with the spells of heavy snow starting late yesterday afternoon and through to this evening. Wee vid from this morning and some pics from a dog walk in Strathspey IMG_5249.MOV
  21. Yup. Abysmal. Utterly dire conditions this morning with sideways lashing rain. Went to bed with 10cms of snow cover (outside not in the bed) and its taking a battering just now. Glad it gets cold again later
