  1. What’s that saying again?.. “there are 2 seasons in Scotland, winter and June” ?... It snows more often than not in May but this current weather is definitely at the more extreme end. 6 inches and heavy snow as I left and a tricky a9 commute, standstill on the Daviot south Yesterday was white and snowy and the last few days in general have had showers accompanying the cold. Aye, very impressive 2021 now give us some
  2. Sorry @Mr Frost... tad late in getting back to you..... The April northerly brought 8 consecutive days with heavy snow and coverings, temps down to -7c or -8 repeatedly and nearly scratched ice-days. It was a week that wouldn’t have looked out of place mid-winter and the entire month has been a frost-fest. It was snowing on the morning commute yesterday. Same this morning but lying this time After last week a return to high pressure and sunshine with a bit of warmth would be nice. Managed to take advantage of the looser restrictions with a jaunt north up Suilven. Great as always. Jeez.. have a LOT of pages to catch up with on the forum. Hope everyone is well.
  3. Wild windchill last couple of days, -20c material. Severe drifting as mentioned in many areas. Some family members have been blocked in north of here. Went towards the usual local big drift spot earlier but the road to it is blocked/impassable. Some snow showers around and currently -4.5c. Last day to notch above zero was feb 5th but that should change over the next few days Yesterday was an Aviemore shop run then dog walk at Loch an Eilein. Few heavy snow showers, relentless spindrift along the loch surface, a fierce gale and occasional sunny spells. Exceptionally changeable conditions. Great winter scenes but very raw, even in layers you felt like you were walking around in the scud
  4. Happy birthday man. Memorable conditions for it. Hopefully this year will gift you yer snow pad. I was rooting for you when you were flirting with a Grantown on Spey move, good spot for it, or just look at Halfamile’s consistently epic cold and snow reports, no need for major altitude if you move to inland Sutherland and it’s a stunningly beautiful place. Options abound all the best
  5. -19c was the coldest it went here, coldest in a few years. Such widespread double digit low numbers. As NL mentioned, much like the winters old where this was expected. Icy windows in colder parts of the house also. -17.5c currently
  6. Beautiful conditions again today. -12c and some showers to start. Woods behind the house is a serene place and encountered plenty wildlife. Deer parent and wee one a highlight. Maxed -5c at 3pm and now -11c so rapid plunge indeed
  7. It finally made it inland, -9.5c and steady snow, bliss, off to the kip
  8. A max of -4c, a dusting from a wee glancing shower around tea time but as ever it’s The Least from the East snow-wise here, hopeful something more will materialise. No heavy snow but it’s -8c and we do have the universe above us
  9. Good to see so much of Scotland with its winter jacket on. Coldest start yet, colder in other spots. Lovely pristine skies
  10. Fe*kin manic in here! good to see Lovely day, few light showers in the morning at -8c then mostly sun and a max of -3c Currently -7c, next three nights in a row showing lows of -16/-17c in the local forecast so surely the coldest temps of the winter incoming? Will see..
  11. Few cms overnights and some showers today. With max temps of -4 and -5c in the week ahead we were digging paths today before it goes solid. A mere dusting compared to the cracking images coming out of Aberdeenshire These guys are also making use of the paths. All roads lead to.. eh nuts Beasterly probably won’t bring much more than further cold here but will enjoy the collective joy and despair on here. Currently -1.5c and snowing, celebrating Scotland’s effort with a dram
  12. Snowed wee flakes for hours in to last night accumulating a few cms more, by morning it was 1.5c and drip, drip In today’s MO warning hokey cokey, they put us back in Amber. Within that warning, our local forecast is showing no snow symbols until late Sunday (after the warning) but within the next ‘Yellow’ warning....Aye so it’s been snowing heavily for the last 2 hours.... Met Office, I’m full, I couldn’t take another wafer thin mint of your nonsense banter
  13. Quieter today with less showers so far and some dripping at 1.2c. Wee top up overnight. Overall cover (including the original stuff that fell in Victorian times) around 38cms, with some towering drift-work around It’s nice to some areas getting walloped. Hopefully anyone getting rain/snizzle/pishle will see it turn to snow as we move on The 1978 blizzard was just before my time but the local accounts when you speak to people are incredible. They had 5 feet level snow fall up the Glen from here
  14. Snowed most of the day in some form, few cms fresh and hefty drifting. This winter has certainly had its porridge
  15. We appear to be under a scatter of warnings and ever changing amounts of snow symbols here, classic ‘no one has a clue what will happen’ displays on the assorted apps. As ever, will be tuning in on here for potential, analysis and updates. The met office warning system is just for sh*ts and giggles, yellow, amber, red, mauve, Trump’s complexion, they’re largely a nonsense. Have worked outside enough years to know the weather will do as the weather pleases and certainly won’t stick to wee coloured boundaries. Anyhoo, feel free to use my detailed warning map below for the coming days folks and good luck with yer snow
  16. The last day of January started at -12c and ended the day at -6.2c, capping off a cold month nicely. 1st day of February has been lovely so far with sunshine, some bouts of snow and a max of 0.8c with no melt. Current temp -2.8c and absolutely dropping like a stone. Looking like the charitable sod winter 20/21 may well deliver for many again this week
  17. Feasgar math guys. Haven’t managed to post for a few days but can report winter is still strapped to stilts. Have managed snow fall each day this week, though it didn’t accumulate a great deal more. It picked up in the last 24rs though, snowing through the early hours and all morning accumulating 10cms, total snow depth now around 34cms Plenty tree and branch debris visible over the last few weeks from snow weight Cairngorms from roadside Loch Morlich the other day were just a wall of winter Would echo comments regarding the impressive/ relentless cold. The vast majority of days have been at or below zero. Although snow depth and temps are nowhere near 2009/10 levels it’s been up there as the most impressive January since then. Apologies for the mega-post. Hope everyone is grand
  18. Great crisp January conditions today with the occasional snow shower after dark. Currently -6c with a -3.4c max. Plenty drift work catching the eye whilst out and the Lairig Ghru looking inevitably cold towards the south. Far from an eventful weather day folks but more than happy for a repeat effort tomorrow
  19. It was fairly panning down last night and this morning. Accumulating something around or north of 20cm through to midday. Lovely snowy scenes to drive around in (or a dreadful carnage for those crazy people who don’t like snow..) Showers feeding in from the NW tonight. Seems this January has some cajones. Hoping that those who have been missing out and getting wet instead will get their winter pay day soon
  20. Aye @Mr Frost 300m on the nose here. Had about 7cms through the day. All still, cold and quiet for now. Will see what the morning brings
  21. Moderate snow here this morning, wee fresh cover on the very crusty old stuff, the bottom layer of which was from Boxing Day, was considering painting it green as it was acting like it was going to hang around through summer too. Another couple of ice days leading up. Tonight looks fun. Good luck peeps
  22. Beautiful capture there @Benvironment looks like a painting Yesterday was a nice, serene day which maxed at -0.4c. Today has just been foul. Cold with some heavy rain showers swept in on a bitter wind and treacherous conditions underfoot lordy
  23. Few more years of climate malaise and we’ll all be huddled up cairngorm praying for snizzle
  24. Well in that case, no more greetin’ about snizzle from your club Tropicana hut ?
