  1. Great to see some snow success from the front. As Sauve mentioned, last night actually dented snow cover up here, had to laugh. The factors that favour you in some set-ups will hinder you for others. Managed some snow spells initially but all a bit marginal and grim since. Probably the opposite of Shuggee, bit too north of the action. Zero complaints about winter so far though, chugging along very nicely. Jan in to Feb always interesting. Still get the feeling something spectacular is going to turn up, will see
  2. As the other northies are reporting, a stunner up here today. -2c max. Hope tomo is a snow-show and not a sh*t-show for people
  3. Here’s some of last night’s Aurora from round here. Apologies, the pics are from my phone’s night-mode so aren’t the best. Got the alert from the app and headed out, have had many non-events (driving about in all hours in pyjamas) so it was great to see. Been about 3 years since last time we caught it. Albeit more faint this time. Still, always a wonderful sight
  4. Some guy on the dog walk was complaining about the snow we’ve had of late. Heretic. It’s beautiful to watch IMG_8092.MOV
  5. Dark grey, raining, lethal slippy, snow melt.. what deviant married these conditions. Snow depth took a good old wallop overnight but relieved to see the reports this rain is turning to snow further north, currently peeing down
  6. Um.....Hallå/Hallo/Hej/??? Hi there Scandinavian people!? just wondering where the Scottish weather thread went?? awesome reports/pictures today Sitting at -11c and maxing at -7.5c after a start at 10 below so a proper winter’s feel today. My partner travelled north with work and took these of some frozen sea Lovely sunset from the outskirts of Inverness earlier Excellent work with the beer chilling from this cold spell Still early days for winter, so fingers crossed for more days like today. Great stuff
  7. Not surprised the initial big blob of precipitation is delivering for a few, gave about 5 hrs snowfall and 8cm 25cm cover including the old stuff, some showers still feeding from the north
  8. No worries, happy hunting (be it tyre or 4x4!) Nice to have access to a Defender, not a lot of places they won’t go. Aye those wee clio’s can be mean too Great stuff. Aye some of the wee cars are perfect until it’s too much and they essentially end up burrowing We used to have an old vw beetle around when I was growing up, tweaked with pretty high clearance, the engine in the boot made it near unstoppable in the snow (without snow tyres). Bags of fun Snow still going here
  9. Aye I’ve got a 4x4 pick-up for work which makes things easier in the snow. Tbh though, a good set of winter or all weather tyres (few aficionados on here) will convert a lot of vehicles in to performers in the snow. Some cars surprise you though, partner’s wee Renault is rarely stuck, correct driving goes a long way. When conditions are dicey I often take the back roads as a fair few people on the a9 seem to sh*t themselves and drive too slow, you need a steady pace in the stuff
  10. Last night deposited a very small covering, Some showers earlier and just back from a shop run. Was snizzle/sleat at sea level Inverness, snowing upper parts of the city, snow level looks about 150m
  11. Local, late afternoon dog walk up to around 450m, fierce windchill This evening we’ve had some light snow but a total non-event so far so will see what does or doesn’t occur. Wonder what’s on tv? ah yes, just America melting
  12. -10c to start here, currently -9.6c, low lying mist and a pink tinge on those plastered hill tops for a while earlier, very nice work from Mother Nature’s set design team
  13. Apologies, haven’t been much cope with the updates, had 8 pages to catch up! It’s been busy on here, some crazy ice reports in there Yesterday we were up the hills behind the house. Peaks of Glen Strathfarrer and Affric (would have waved if I’d known you were there HC) looked nicely suspended in the clouds You’d struggle getting a mortgage on it but would move in to the stalkers bothy tomorrow. Snow thigh deep in parts, proper snow Looks like the temps will go up a bitty from Saturday but it’s yet to nudge above zero so far this January and it’s snowed in some manor every day since Boxing Day (and a bit of the lead-up), cover consistent around 18cm. Its been a pretty persistent cold spell so far in a lot of the highlands, if not mental (à la 09/10). Not much excitement for low level dwellers (the running theme of our gathering climate sh*tshow) but some coastal areas of the west/north west have managed snow cover and ice days at sea level
  14. Happy New Year. After a very quiet Hogmanay where we didn’t touch a drop it’s nice to be fresh on the first day 0c and just had a snow shower, hopefully a good omen that this winter is keen to press on with delivering the goods
  15. Plenty showers and below zero yesterday The front dumped a few inches overnight, total depth about 20cms but it’s now -0.5c and sleet/rain ️
  16. Nice having a Christmas in to Hogmanay limbo period looking at people’s snow pics. Here’s some from near the slochd yesterday afternoon, beautiful, sunny and -4.8c Today was a more marginal mix, snow/wet snow/misty-drizzly dull mince with the temp around 0.5c and some thaw. Any showers after dark seem to lie though. Hopefully winter is just getting started
  17. Well as @shuggee rightly alluded, you wouldn’t have known much about it if you relied solely on the bbc Scotland weather graphics but yesterday evening dropped about 12cms over about 3 to 4 hours of snow. Kilted thread as useful a resource as ever Nice winter looking light earlier this morn and currently-3c
  18. Encountered a skelp of it while giving the dog a run out in south side Loch Ness this afternoon
  19. Yesterday’s rain started turning to snow when we were heading to bed around midnight. Light snow, -2c and a wee covering here this morn
  20. A wee covering here also, few cms, -1.7c with occasional showers and squirrels
  21. Aye. Spectacular and cold! Warming up with a peculiar one tonight, a bottle of ‘Tweeddale grain of truth’ which we got on Raasay. Very nice
  22. Just started snowing here 0c Last few days have began below zero with us nearly mustering an ice day yesterday (says a lot about this winter so far that that should bring fanfare..) Happy it’s a bit more traditional December looking than the grey/tame winter mince so far though. Wyvis looked good from daviot earlier Dunlichity is a lovely peaceful spot @Quinach we also have family at rest there
  23. I quite often have this in my head when reading the model thread https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=C6ZDsUGiGqM
