  1. Yes ECM looking good, hopefully further upgrades on future runs! GFS keeps 850's below 0c briefly rising to -2/-3c before falling again, air thickness stays sub 530dam. All fine for frontal events, evaporative cooling should work a treat. Then the temperature falls sub zero behind the front. :)

Still not going to get excited until I physically see snow falling outside!

    -2.7c now.

Awww come on Liam you know you want to ramp really........ :p

A night of radar and lampost watching - plus lock in, in chat thread. Just been to cash & carry, bar well stocked up. All welcome. :)

One thing is for sure even if it's transitory most areas of Eng/Wales will see snow. I'll try & discuss in detail

Note the rather elongated shape to the isobars...this signals a slowing system all good for us #snowfans - http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rtavn601.png

    Paul Hudson @Hudsonweather

Room for timings to change at w/e, but @metoffice warning suggesting 2-5cms in west, with 5-10cms further east looks reasonable at moment

Here's the latest NAE model on the situation for Sat morning. Sniw getting into Wales & W areas of Eng early on. http://pic.twitter.com/9RRQRT6a

  3. Hello friends, not been on a lot this season but with all the 'will-it-won't-it' around at the moment, couldn't resist having a read of the friendly regional NW thread. :) I've been so hoping that this w/e would mirror the 6th Feb 1996 when we had the most memorable battleground scenario in 'recent' times (for the west anyway) Looks like Blackpool won't be cut off this time! Good luck to anyone further east of the region - expecting wet snow this far west.

Just as reminder of the chart from '96 -

Long time no see! Great to see you back! :D

  4. I know from the uncertain situation that my question may be unanswerable, but ill ask anyway......

I am organising the planting of a community orchard in Preston this Saturday, due to start 10;30....now a light ground frost is ok ...we can scrape of the frost and plant the trees...however a deep frost is another matter, for example today would have been a no go, even though it was 3c by 10am the ground was pretty solid......now it seems that Friday to Saturday could see milder air.......Id like a few opinions, how do you rate my chances of the ground being relatively thawed by 11 am Saturday?

I know most of you are rooting for it to still be cold (i have mixed feelings) but please try to be unbiased.

    Thanks in advance

    Chris

I think the ground is still going to be pretty hard so you'll struggle to dig the soil.
