  1. Has been raining heavily in Bristol for around the last 3 hours now! I notice on the radar we have our own little rain system pivoting over us! Biggest fall of rain I've seen for ages!
  2. Lovely here in Bristol today! Lots of warm pleasant sunshine, just a few bubbles of cloud around! Certainly nothing stormy or even showery occuring around here! A very nice day indeed!
  3. Love the fact they exclude South West England in that forecast, but the rest of the country is included! Oh well, it will be our day one day down here! Hopefully still get some heavy rain showers, some decent PPN is showing up out to the west, coming into the Bristol Channel! Good luck all!
  4. Proobably because it's the most action we've had in weeks! Desperate times!!
  5. Had consistant moderate to heavy rain in Bristol for the last couple of hours now! But no thunder! BBC weather just had a scattering of showers around, certainly no mention of persistent heavy rain! No mention of thunder either! Except for the south east later on today and tonight! Looks like it's a case of anywhere on the south could get something but it's a guess exactly where! I'm hoping Bristol gets a rumble or two soon as everywhere around here has had something by the sound of it, and it's supposed to dry up here soon!
  6. Nothing in Bristol but steady moderate rain! Looks to ovecast here for any thunder! So close but yet so far again! Good luck to all south of me!
  7. Possibly something thundery popping up around the second week of June for the south but that's so far off that it's purely speculation and hope at the moment!
  8. Correct me if I'm wrong, but are we looking at showers now for the next few days rather than storms? As the temps are a bit cool for storms!
  9. It looks like areas north and west of Brimingham will do best with potential thunder today!! Areas south and east of the Midlands look drier and sunnier, inside an area from Norwich across to Birmingham down to Exeter eastwards/southwards, although a isolated shower or two will be around here! North West England should see some big ones!! Just my amatuer observations anyway! Enjoy all!
  10. There is a met office weather watch out for 2 - 5cm of snow over higher ground ( above 200m ) in the far south west!! Maybe a surprise or two here!! Models this evening have brought back hope again, admittedly for more northern areas of the country! However with massive short term changes like this, and a large amount of uncertainty still, perhaps there is a couple of straws left for us to clutch still!!
  11. they seem to of perked up again in there!! A change to colder conditions is apparantely starting to be shown in FI now!! I ain't a model reader anyway so I'll just stick with Richard Angwin!!
  12. agree with you there!! I think there is something brewing for the end of the month and into Feb!! Of course, it's FI and I maybe completely wrong, but with models, the met office and senior members here going for a cold end to the month, you've got to be optimistic!!
  13. Really heavy rain in Bristol now! And strong gusts of wind! I'm probably the only one, but I don't mind this at the moment, something different! Still looking for the potential cold towards the end of the month! Something will come, but obviously it's to far to say what yet! Whether it comes next weekend or the last few days of January remains to be seen, as these things have a tendacy to stall at a particular timeframe for a while, thus getting delayed! All interesting trying to forecast though!! Met office 30 day forecast is interesting! By the end of the month and into feb, there going for colder across the country! On iPhone, can't post link sorry!
  14. Some mild rainy weather next week for you! Lol! Could see temps get into the mid teens next week in favoured places! Only in this country can you experience -15c and +15c all in a 4 week timeframe! Lol!
  15. yep, 10 - 14 day holiday from the cold weather now!! Time for a break, and relaxation! Lol! I'll still be keeping an eye on some potential gales next week though, they could be interesting! From next weekend onwards, that's when we should get back to model watching closely, as there could be a return to cold then, but we need to get through this week and get it into a reliable timeframe first! Very good trend from models for a cold end to January though, along with forecasting!! Enjoy the break from the cold! It is just a break though, I don't think it's finished with us yet!!
  16. Totally agree!! There is still more winter suprises for us yet I feel!! Anyway, GFS and ECM FI still keen on bringing colder conditions back at the end of the month! Remember, the GFS was the first to see this milder spell back in FI, so maybe it's the first to be seeing a next cold spell!' its been in several runs now so something to keep an eye on!! This milder spell feels weird! We haven't had wind rain etc for so long now, it doesn't feel as depressing as what previous winters have!! Someone very lucky might get snow tonight, maybe, just maybe!!!!
  17. same here mate!! I know it is going to be very temporary, but still, the opportunity of seeing heavy snow falling for a short period of time is exciting!! I also like strong winds ( not as much as heavy snow though, lol ), so I'm a little interested in the gales and possibly severe gales we could get during the Atlantic regime next week!! A lot to look forward too in my opinion, something for everyone!!
  18. in reply to Weather20 above, the reason I am talking about the potential cold in FI is to flip the coin on the many calling this winter over! Like I said in my post above, it could quite easily not come off, but at the same time it could quite easily come off, so to call winter over when there is still further potential in the many days ahead is abserd!! I'm trying to show why I think this winter is not over yet, and trying to back it up with support and evidence rather than making wild comments!! Yes, I have moaned about the lack of snow IMBY, for those of us around the Bristol area we all have! It's very frustrating to see snow so widely across the region, yet little where you live! However, at no time have I called this winter a rubbish winter!! It's far from that! Just because I personally have had little snow, the temps I have recorded here have been quite remarkable for a city like Bristol!! Yes, I would have liked more snow too, but just because there has been a lack of snow doesn't mean winter has been a right off! Plus, as I keep saying, there is plenty of time for that too change yet!! Whilst I have moaned about the lack of snow IMBY, that has been purely out of frustration at that time! At no time have I made silly assumptions that winter is over, that this winter is rubbish etc, because none of that is true! I don't know what is going to happen through the rest of winter, if I did I would be a very rich man, I'm just trying to balance it out with posts saying mild is here to stay, with a view to potential cold returning!! We have some very interesting model watching ahead in the next couple of weeks to see if any cold will be returning, so let's enjoy that and enjoy the lovely wind and rain we will see next week!! ( oh and the snow for the lucky ones tomorrow ) right this winter of at your peril!!!!
  19. According to 0z NAE, there could be some heavy snow around for most of our region tomorrow morning, this continuing in places north of the M4 into the afternoon! Could be some decent totals before it all turns back to rain!! Sorry, can't post link to charts as on iPhone!!!!
  20. Right.............. After Reading posts both in here and on the model thread ( more so there ), I'm quite shocked and amused at some of the posts!! Firstly, winter is NOT over by any means whatsoever! How can anybody say that just because the Atlantic is going to return next week! It's only the beginning of January! Charts don't even touch Febuary yet, and plus, there is potential of colder weather towards the end of the month, to which I'll return to in a minute! Remember, the reason why a lot of us like snow and cold is because we don't see it too often! It's different to our normal wet and mild days! If it were to always snow and we were regularly in the freezer then it wouldn't be different, it would be normal and we would all find it boring after a while! So, I for one don't want snow all the time, it wouldn't be the same otherwise! Thts what I love about winter, trying to forecast when that little bit of snow is coming, and when our double negative temps are coming! It's different! Secondly, to carry on from above! Who cares if the Atlantic comes back for a while! It will be refreshing to see our accustomed winter days back! It's not going to last forever! The rain and milder temps is something we haven't seen since November, so we can't exactly moan about it! There could be some strong winds and heavy rain about, so still fun for those model watchers amongst us! Thirdly, there is continued support for colder air to return to the UK towards the end of the month! This as been a regular feature in the last few model runs now! Whilst it's deep into FI, therefore the usual rules apply, it's something to watch out for! The Met office outlook as consistently been pointing towards a colder end to january, and the models are starting to go along with this now! It's doesn't mean it will happen, the mild Atlantic weather coming may well last for weeks, it's a possibility, but a return to colder conditions is just as much a possibility, if not slightly more likely, with the growing support for cold! I don't buy the predicted mother of all easterlies being thrown about the model thread, nor do I buy the everlasting mild Atlantic weather, what I do buy is a return to colder but much drier conditions towards the end of the month! Snowfall is likely to be minimal, but that's just a hunch!! Lastly, the potential snow in the next 72 hours!! Tomorrow looks more likely to be a Devon, South Somerset and Dorset event now! Snow will fall over the moors, Salisbury plain and other areas of high ground! Lower ground is likely to have rain and sleet mixed in, but snow can't be ruled out in favoured areas here either! However, and this is just my opinion now, with tomorrow event progged further south, this surely means the colder air as managed to get further south too, therefore increasing the likelyhood of snow on Friday for areas north of Somerset! I think North Somerset northwards will see a period of snow Friday morning, before the milder air moves in and turns it all back to rain! Most areas, bar cornwall, in our region will see snow falling over the next 72 hours!! To summarise then, please no posts about winter being over and it's all mild for eternity now, because that's not the case! There is snow in the next day or two, then there is mild then there is anything!! It has been a fantastic winter for cold lovers, some of the best snowfall in some areas ( worst in Bristol ) lol! Bring on Febraury I say..........
  21. Perhaps its time to say goodbye to this thread now. Not really needed unfortunately!
  22. Don't yet know how to quote so wont bother trying. The met office are now mentioning of a small possibility of sleet/snow being a bit more widespread in the next few weeks, than previously thought, with even my home region, Bristol, having admittidely, a small chance of the white stuff before christmas. We very rarely get snow and get forecast snow down here, so anything that gets my hopes up does so. Is this in agreement with you experts here?
  23. Hey all. New member here! I'm not a forecaster, nor do I know much about forecasting, I just love extreme and lively weather. From reading this forum topic, it doesn't sound like this winter, here in Bristol, will be anything like last winter. Had the best snowfall for as long as I can remember. From what I gather, this winter, here In Bristol, is going to start dry and chilly, but not excessively cold. There will be milder interludes to the south west, which will stop temperatures dropping away to much, unlike more northern and eastern parts. Therefore, no significant snowfall is expected. When its cold, its going to be dry, and when its wet, temperatures will be just a little to high for snow. Am I reading it correctly or can anyone get my hopes up for more snow? Cheers
