  1. Keep an eye out for lightning around the area tonight; could pop up anywhere...If there is anyone still around to read this lol
  2. Interesting squall line possibilities overnight tonight. Substantial waa ahead of the cold front. Wouldn’t be surprised to wake up to the sound of a freight train coming through the window. 850s will be sub-zero by 8 AM tomorrow out of interest .
  3. Maximum 12.2°C today. Highest temperature for 6 weeks. The last few years we were looking at those temperatures every day pretty much.
  4. Thursday should be okay. Nice fresh Atlantic air. A convective westerly with some lightning and hail potential. Not that bad.
  5. GFS 12 z has brought back the -7/-8 850s for Friday evening, however pressure looks too high for precipitation. May be a slight chance of wintriness before the pressure rises too much. As I said before, Thursday is your standard convective westerly with 850s only around -3. The only unusual thing is that the surface winds will be backed off-shore whilst the flow aloft still brings showers in from the west.
  6. Thursday still holds some convective interest although 850s are not cold enough for anywhere to see falling snow except perhaps @WillinGlossop and Buxton. The interest for Friday has gone. Haven’t been on the mod thread for ages so didn’t realise that they had finally stop shouting at each other and decided to actually talk about the weather!
  7. 4.4°C here, 0.5°C below the 1981-2010 average. If it wasn’t for the mild last week of the month to come then it would finish below normal here. 4 air frosts this month, 50% of average. 1 day with falling snow.
  8. Only got up to 7.5°C here in the end, but then you were closer to the inversion being on a hill.
  9. Thursday and Friday hold some small interest. Watch this space.
  10. Yes. I think 2006 it was. I remember some great snow falls in February and March. At least one was from a north-westerly.
  11. Say goodbye to the cold surface air. It may not be around again until next month. The wind is about to go on-shore.
  12. Lots of flooding on my way to Southport today and in Southport itself. It’s actually pretty unbearable to be outside for more than a few seconds.
  13. Yep it was blo*dy cold! You should have seen the ice on the bay! -17.7 I think
  14. -7 850s showing for Friday night. Snow above 100 m if there is any precipitation.
  15. Last event remotely like that was 23 December 2009. Got 4 inches that day here.
  16. @captaincroc Thank you :-) I’ll be trying more forecasts like that in the future, think I’ve got the hang of it now. Ice pelets are quite rare in the UK so the other day when I saw the potential I thought it would be interesting to watch. It was certainly an interesting morning.
  17. A horrible day here now. Driving rain and wind. Bring on the double-figure temperatures, at least for a bit. Watch out for freezing rain inland now, also the ice pellet risk will continue for a little longer in some places. Very pleased with how the morning went, and my reading of the atmosphere was proved correct.
  18. Precipitation type is based on model predictions rather than actual observation.
