had 30 CMs last year here on the coast, but was a once in a lifetime event.

I'll back BT up here, I remember many fronts that have fell as snow here over just the last 3 years, for example: 23rd Dec 2009, warm front from the southwest, fell as snow very heavy, 10 CM here. 13 Jan 2010, warm front from southwest, fell as snow lasted all day, 5 CM. 18 Feb 2010, warm front, snowed all morning, 3 CM. 21 Feb 2010, warm front, 5 CM snow, melted in afternoon. March 2010, several snow to rain fronts. Second friday in Dec 2010, warm front, fell as snow here though not forecast. This list doesn't include the many snow fronts of winter 2005-6 as well as countless others in the passed, and remember, I live on the coast! There is a theme of expect the unforecast with this sort of sett up. It's not over yet!

Cardiff have still got the great red men to face before they can win a cup! That game is about the only thing to look forward to, as snow is about as unusual here as liverpool winning a cup these days.

the sun was out for a good few hours on boxing day, felt almost spring like. Was out for a bit yesterday as well. Currently 10.4c, dry with a breeze.

Ambleside isn't a lake, it's a lakeside town. It is quite low down though

That makes sence, but the govenment have just shifted a load of the sand down to the Alt estuary. Don't forget that the beach was frozen at the time, I went there, and there were banks of ice 3 feet high. It was mad.

My lowest temperature last december was on the night of the 20th at -11.1c, though the Crosby metoffice station fell to -17 so my thermometer may have been reading a little high. I did hear that there was some sort of sea smoke that caused the temperature there to fall that far.
