  1. im in neath at the moment and its snowing here now, wasnt expecting this even though its light, are we expecting some more light snow tonight and tommorow before the main event? surely its a good sign that its snowing in western wales now for this to be an all snow event for wales on friday, i hoping this is going to be epic and looking in the model thread theres more of the same to come. Iv always wanted to see a red warning of snow for wales maybe this is the winter we can witness this, theres hoping anyway.

  2. happy new year and all that to everyone been gutted with these phantom cold spells when they do a magical act to tease us all then dissapear, but just a hunch that this time its going to deliver snow for wales. Swansea beat chelsea 2:0 so its going to happen bring on the whitey goodness !!!

  3. Is this chance of snow tommorow our main chance in wales this week? Isnt there a more organised band of ppn progged for us thursday? Surely this would more likely be snow with the cold already in place. Hopefully someone can correct me. Looking good long term just eager for snow now its been too long lol.

  4. GFS 06z - OH MY GOD (complete breakdown)

SNOWSTORM FOR WALES - AMAZING - Wales as usual on the border between cold air and the low coming up from the south!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOW WOW

FI - I know I know I know - but I think we have to realise the potential here

Andy your posts never fail to make me happy. Been lurking on here seeing all the hype for this winter, and iv been dying to get excited and write similar posts to yours but you have summed it up for me. Even the experienced posters on here seem to be ramping this up so im confident we are being sent to the freezer just a matter of how cold and how much snow i think now!!

  5. very chilly out tonight - raining at the moment - complicated low now crossing south wales (with a slight warm sector embedded in it) with showers dotted all over it - GFS has us down to 1 and 0 degrees overnight - mmmmmmmmmmmm - any chance wintry precip may be a possibility especially off the back end which will carry a northerly fetching wind just like the way the south west had there snow this morning? - Nae says no! - once again - a little lampost watching may be required

edit - the post count now seems to be fixed - thank you!

Wales has it's own miniature Hurricane Sandy - what shall we call her - Hurricane Gladys?

This weather does seem rather strange hopefully its a good sign. Thanks for explaining the pressures a bit earlier, will be investing in a book this year to help with some technical stuff. Was this low currently over us forecasted as everything seems to have not been forecasted lol, looks good on the radar.

  6. some tasty looking model charts now showing up - BIG European high seems to be taking up residence end of reliable and into FI land - looks good for a major cool down as we go further into November - some are even saying we have the potential for another 2010 December - we shall see - but synoptics look mouth watering potentially good for all to get a bumper cold and snow set up! - John Holmes + Steve Murr are certainly getting all excited!

That would be more than welcome bring it on! I am trying to learn to take everything with a pinch of salt as i seem to get dissapointed more often than not. Also i have seen how the mood can change overnight on here lol.

  7. Guess I should have put the previous post in my own are but it is not too far away...

further enough away for you to have the snow and for us to have none. Nice to see that you have had some white stuff and i wish i was there, snow just always lifts my mood no matter what. Any chance of sharing some with us lol.

  8. some severe looking weather approaching Llanelli and Swansea now

most likely rain seems to mild for any white stuff, i would like to be proved wrong though. Nice to see some lucky people across the border getting some snow. Im so jealous been lurking in their regional thread haha. Hopefully our time will come sooner rather than later.

  9. Im sure i can see some wet flakes in the last few showers unless my eyes are playing tricks on me again like last winter haha. It does seem a lot colder this time around compared to last year, lets hope the cold keeps building and we can tap into it, also any mild spelss are short lived.

  10. Dont know whether any one has mentioned this but i can see snow towards the beacons, is this a sign of things to come or false hope. Nice to see the first snow of the season from my front door nonetheless even if its not by me. Any updates with this low tommorow ?

  11. Hey guys, first post this winter got to say been lurking early this year, i didnt think anything was forecast seems to have come out the blue. Is there really a chance of a few flakes? Im hoping for a good few dumps of the white stuff this year :) theres hoping anyway.

  12. As the weather is on the change to springlike, so does the name change.

However please carry discussions as before, including wintry if the weather decides to pick up on the irony of the thread title.

This thread should have been called this from the start, as winter never really started lol. Looking forward to spring like weather and some storms. Then monsoon season in the summer haha :).

  13. Best just look on Amazon really plenty to choose from.

    Light rain shower just.

Uppers fine, thickness fine, time of day fine, however too mild here atm.

    3.8c/ 0.8c dp

Thats the problem too much choice will have to just buy a few lol. Looking rather clear on the radar :(.

  14. I know its a bit off topic but wouldnt know where else to ask. Also i know us welshies are all friendly, can anyone recommend some books for learning about different weather features during the winter and thunderstorms etc. Reason being that i just want to improve my knowledge ready for next winter. Sorry this is completely random lol.

  15. We have all the info from the models, and my posts 579 and 592 show this.

As the colder air digs in today, the temperature difference between the sea and the increasingly colder air from the North West will create convection and showers. so as the day goes on more and more showers will develop. Of course the increasing pressure from the South West will curtail this showery potential, especially after midnight. IMO best chance of snow showers tonight.6pm till midnight.

http://seasonsinthevalley.blogspot.com/2010/12/snow-snow-snow.html <- A bit more about snow streamers, certaintly the 13c temp difference between sea and air is there, not to sure about 100km of open water though. that's why NNW are better than NW winds.

We are now onto radar watch, and looking reasonably promisng upwind of us over in Iteland.

Crossing my fingers then, i like that link about streamers and lake effect snow, i wish. Gota experience that one day very big snow totals from them!!.
