There won't be much disruption in the Borders region of Scotland if they get 85 mph gusts. It's a fairly regular event so homes, walls and even trees and wildlife are used to it. Very rural area away from the coasts too. Likewise the far west and Wales. 85mph in London is knocking on a red warning.

Umm i think 85mph is dangerous whether its a built up area or not. Still could cause branches falling or even trees which could danger life. Yes i agree its more unusual for london - but i still think it merits an amber in the boarders and maybe the NE.

As soon as the isobars turn westerly to North westerly, the Lee of the pennines affect could come into play which can enhance gusts from my experience of living there. Looks like come Sunday evening NE Scotland and NE England could see the strongest of the winds.

Tuesday morning could be one to watch also as the isobars tighten somewhat again but then by the afternoon winds should start to die down slowly.

Thank you. Just seen the latest bbc forecast and it put particular emphasis on the boarders of scotland getting 85 mph winds. They arent even amber. Its baffling

No need to apologise Nick, as I've said were all here to learn Although I do have some high expectations when it comes to snow and cold as lets face it, it is a rare sight to our shores, so always like the synoptics to be as perfect as possible.

Personally I think these are the building blocks slowly coming into place, for the ultimate UK freeze we want the 'perfect synoptics late dec/jan ideally. The fact that they're showing now can only be encouraging

The Uk Met Office have now named Thursday's Low Storm Bronagh

Met Office " the storm has been named due to the squally nature of the cold front as it crosses the UK overnight – this could bring transport disruption for the morning" (Friday)

So will there be an amber warning for newcastle?

Why is the met office putting out warnings for wind on sunday/monday I wonder?

Seems very odd for such a large storm in the charts, to vanish overnight?

I bet we'll see it back later in the day's runs

Yes i think so too. Either that or the warning will disappear by lunch time.

They are looking much more banded together and if your under these now heavy snow showers for the rest of the night (if they continue) then some significant accumulations likely.

I see no difference yet between showers over the NE to showers over South Yorkshire... In my opinion.

The amber only came into effect from 4pm i think. So not including what we have seen up untill then

The showers are supposed to be at their heaviest in the early hours if i have understood correctly. Looks like a streamer setting up over newcastle area?
