What an awful night, feel total shattered. Trying to keep a/c off due to cost but not a hope now. Easily the worst spell of weather for nearly a year. Actually feel ill. Hayfever bomb? oh yes that has gone off.
Had the added pleasure of my 10 year old today son getting into our bed at 3am because he was too excited to sleep, sweaty little boy. Probably the driest place in England, all the rain missing to the west again

What a joke of a day! Got this lot inbound and todays plan of getting the kids to the beach are totally ruined. Only Chance we’ve had. Given the snails pace this lot is moving looks like we’ve got hours of drizzly, convective leftovers to come.
Before anyone says it yes we’ve had lots of sun previously but clearly no good to me when im chained to a desk 10hrs today.
Still Egypt on Friday awaits.
Tough life

26 degrees already, been wall to wall sunshine for weeks. Up until today it’s been okay but now it’s feeling hot and I’m dreading a summer like last year.

Great pictures, a pretty impressive couple of days.
one thing that winds me up is the people in their cars stuck on the motorway moaning about being stuck, if they’d took the advice they wouldn’t have been travelling over the Pennines. And if you have to travel fine but don’t moan if you get stuck and post lame videos on social media and play the blame game.- 19

5 cm in Basingstoke, I’d say that’s a pretty good effort for March, hasn’t melted either even thought it’s been raining all afternoon/evening

It would rival anything gone before such as 2010 and 2018!!
It wouldn’t.

Personally I wouldn't be too upset with something like what the gfs shows with a deep low moving up from the south west into the cold. At least some will see some disruptive snowfall. Prefer that scenario, to days on end of cold, dry weather followed by a powder puff warm up.
Absolutely, spent the whole of December freezing cold without seeing a flake of snow, give me a day of heavy snow and then spring warmth

What ? is this for an overnight frost, good god
This kind of thing gives you Jocks more ammunition to laugh at us southern softies. I’ve checked and we might get down to minus 5 which will be up to about zero by 9am in the sunshine. We certainly don’t need a warning for that.
Lame

Not sure why everyone’s so upset about the GFS at least it keeps this place interesting. A little bit of dreaming never did anyone any harm

Another grim day, never got above 1 today and foggy, ice everywhere. Can’t wait for milder weather.

I like the look of the 6z GFS, A PM flow of very cold unstable air filtering down off Greenland from the the N/W aided by a very strong Jet Stream over the UK. Gales/rain/snow and blizzards for the North and high ground if these charts are correct..
I’d love to be in Iceland if that hits

It's cloudy over here, and the temperature is above zero, so no fog and no frost; possibly a better representation of the airmass than an isolated frost hollow stuck under an inversion?
Mmm about 200 square miles of frost hollow and I’m not sure Basingstoke Is a frost hollow

I made this point in the model thread a couple of days ago.
The very fact that 3C daytime temperatures, some overnight frosts etc (in what is meant to be deep winter) is being lauded, just goes to show how low our expectations have become.
The March 2006 polar NWly gave more notable weather than the week just gone.
I’ve lost more time at work this winter than I can ever remember, last week I couldn’t start working until 11am from Tuesday to Friday, looks like Monday to at least Wednesday the same this coming week added to the week in mid December, it’s getting a tad frustrating now, I wish I could have the milder weather the north and west are getting.
oh and not one poxy snowflake, just frost and more frost, my sons last 4 Sunday football matches called off either frozen pitch 3 times or once waterlogged, what a load of pony.

Yes very impressive, wish it was a few degrees colder, I’d get buried

It’s an impressive looking system coming up from the south, think it’s gonna go further north than thought.

Look at the radar, the angle of approach, the pivoting motion. Imagine if it were about 4c colder!
Why couldn’t it if happened for the pre Christmas cold spell, would have been buried

In the Mod thread though too many try and see something in the models that isn't there , we need some realism at times to calm things down, it's the model thread so if the models are showing mild then it's mild , wishful thinking doesn't change them.
It’s escapism for many including me, pretty much always ends in disappointment
