Powers that Be... Government etc.

Controlled? Please how can that be. Less than ten paragraphs should suffice
Money is a control mechanism.
TV is a control mechanism.
Were all doomed I tell you, Dooooooooooooomed !
Seriously though, we are all controlled via our PTB.

Ban booze, fast cars, high fatty foods (lard?) planes and big pointy sticks
Then how do we de-stress from women ?
The beauty of being human is that we're free......And choice should play a pretty big part of that.
Sadly, we are far from being free... We are controlled.
Perhaps if more realised that none of us have a halo above our heads, then all the better for everyone.
Good point, perhaps.

Good article OP. Hopefully one day they will Ban smoking full stop, it's revolting, and people stink.

We all know that Saturn is encircled by a system of rings, and perhaps you also know about the fainter rings around Uranus
Sure do....

I thought you had good news from the title Knocker....

Read it again and my eyes were not deceiving me you did indeed say:
"it certainly hasn't been mild"
- with regards the past Winter.
Quote from the Met Office:
"The UK average mean temperature for the winter so far is 5.2 °C making it the 5th warmest winter since the national series records began in 1910."
http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/news/releases/archive/2014/early-winter-stats
You know it's been a very mild Winter when I can officially say I have had more frosts in Spring than Winter, and it's only 12 days old ! (Meteorological season)
Some charts might be throwing up some cold shots now Winter is over, but we have seen pretty much none of them come to fruition over the period, and I don't think it will change now.
Thankfully, I think we are entering a long period of dry, warm & settled High Pressure.

Bit windy here. Closing the front door before during a gust was a little struggle! Not too bad here though.

Thats the upper atmosphere, 850hPa.
You need 1000.

well as our friends over pond would say the outer reaches are now over cornwall
Yup, tomorrow is looking horrible some some places, especially the SW, interesting developments. Been a strange old Winter.

The last two posts from Purga and Phil nw totally contradict each other. One is sating no sight at all of anything wintry and the other is saying chance of widespread snow. For anyone coming on here to check what the models are showing its difficult to know what the hell is going on. Who do you believe, how can you get completely different outcomes
Welcome to the Model Output. I'd stick with Phil's informative & unbiased views. You will soon learn who the wums are / those who post to gain a reaction. Just have a look yourself, Tuesday/Wednesday is looking like snow potential the more further north and west you are, and the obvious elevated places, it's clear on the charts, nothing else too it really.
It's also quite wise to follow a post which has backup - I.E Charts which correlate to what they are saying. Those who state something without backup are you're usual suspects.

Looks like we're about to find out.
It's not impossible, but very doubtful, we have never had over 150mph in lowland UK - High ground record stands at 173mph at Cairngorms with the lowland speed in Aberdeenshire at 142mph.
This system at the weekend, i'll be surprised if it goes over 105mph. More around 80-90mph.
-
Yep, Tuesday one to watch, although still too far off.Snow even for the West of the region possible from this chart, blizzards further East for places like here.
Moderate/Heavy snow for NW on this.

Not really this was Victorian Britain where their actually would build defences to defend it, Plus was a Brunel masterpiece taking in the scenery of the coast
I understand it's all about Scenery, but building a train track on the edge of a country, known for it's wetness... Hmmmm
-
I think there will be a fair bit more sea wall dissappear along there in the coming week.
Its always been thought of as a rubbish place to put a railway line, but its rather hilly around there so difficult to find an alternative.
Very pretty train ride along there though.
Yep - stupid place to build a trainline. I don't know what people expect when you build houses 5 yards from the sea. The collapse of that Sea Wall isn't really that surprising either, given the amount of bashing it's had over the decades.
