  1. Rain has turned to sleet here in Durham. The odd flake. Miserable out there though. And so dark! We haven't had proper daylight for days!
  2. I think talk of another Nov/Dec 2010 being on the cards is very premature. I can't see it myself. Not on that scale. Will be great to get some decent cold weather though. That said, I'm still stratching my head as to how we've had two decent (one of them very decent) snow events so far this season, despite the warmth. I'll need to remember this when we're bone dry and Surrey is getting a pasting!
  3. Lovely surprise! About 5 or 6 hours of snow, 5" on grass, 2-3" more generally here in a high-ish part near Durham City. The melt is well under way, but hopefully the night should slow that down so we get to appreciate it a bit more tomorrow. 2 decent falls (settling) so far, then, even if you had to be up on 2-6am to see the first!... Given how mild it's been, it's quite remarkable how we've had more snow that we've had over the last few years! P.S. Nice to see the NE as the lucky ones.
  4. Hi guys. Looked fantastic when it was coming down thick and fast in that wind - 2" sized flakes at once point. Definitely feels wetter now here in Durham. Hoping it'll be there for when the kids wake up. Took some pictures in any case. Although this represents a good start, certainly compared to the last few years, from what I can tell, there isn't much hope for the foreseeable after this.
  5. Even the radar is taking the p-ss out of us now.
  6. Just stick to the Durham Dales No need to go outside the NE
  7. Should be good.. Weardale just now:
  8. The most important word in your post.
  9. 15 mins of medium snow have loved a covering.. just makes it all the more frustrating, since proper showers for a decent few hours would have left really good accumulations. Instead it's the usual whiteness with no depth whatsoever.
  10. I'm struggling to see how anyone can be positive even if they are getting snow when they look at that radar and compare it to the forecast. Which wasn't correctly forecast? Was it not predicted by the models at all?
  11. Look at that radar. It is pathetic. Can anyone give a sense of WHY the forecast heavy showers have simply failed to materialise? There is barely anything coming!
  12. Not sure. doesn't look like it's following the arrows. Seems to be going more SSW to me. Looks like it'll hit Newc and skirt to the W of Durham. As is typical.
  13. This really is my bête noire!! It's "lying", not "laying".
  14. In all seriousness, the radar does look pretty bleak atm for those of us between Durham and Morpeth. Compare this to the way the N Sea was churning out heavy snow showers in 2010... different world.
  15. Don't worry, FP, the radar seems to show that you are indeed in "the gap", as am I now... you can rest assured that you will not have your sleet-or-nothing fest ruined by the white stuff.
  16. I have greatly appreciated your depressed and resigned humour in the face of the shockingness of this winter. Wet snow here for a bit -a dusting on cars.
  17. not much on the radar atm.. is it due to pep up??
  18. .. the residual heat from which will ensure that when it snows tonight, it will turn to sleet just above your house.
  19. Half a cm?? You lucky, lucky b_stard. If it is, I expect it to morph into a giant middle finger as it approaches our region, before fizzling out to nothing.
  20. and here's me desperately hoping that miniscule shower makes it here to give me a 0.01mm dusting. What have we come to?? :/
  21. A wide area from London north and out west (mainly) is also getting a decent amount with more to come. Someone pass me the voodoo dolls.
