  1. Agreed. Are the winds due to turn more E'ly at all? If not, then yet again northern parts of the region are scuppered!
  2. true... looks like Sunderland is more in the firing line, though as it pushes south.
  3. Any change of wind direction forecast?
  4. There will indeed be showers tonight... showers of bitter disappointment, interspersed with longer spells of crushing nothingness, ending with frequent periods of galling envy towards more southerly parts.
  5. I can't either. So I made this, which does a pretty decent job and costs a couple of quid. http://www.loganvillageweather.com/station/stevenson.html
  6. The sensor I used to have was also on a north facing fence. I noticed that it was incredibly sensitive to cloud cover on a cold night and the temperature generally fluctuated much more quickly than properly screened sensors. It gave readings that were too low. This is supported by posts in this thread, which coincide with my experience. https://forum.netweather.tv/topic/63499-do-i-need-a-stevenson-screen/ As you can see, non-screened sensors in relatively open locations can lead to temps that are up to 2-3°C too low on calm, cold nights. Most PWS were reporting higher than you got, and if one or two weren't, then it may be that they aren't screened. Certainly, the only official station that was close was the airport, which is very exposed. The main point is that without a screen, readings (on such nights especially) are unreliable.
  7. Just thought it sounded very low for the area, as noted above. By shielded I meant in a proper Stevenson screen or equivalent. I only ask because I had a non-shielded sensor for a few years and it ended up being much lower than other parts, and recorded changes in temperature much faster than other sensors, which is usually a sign that things aren't right. Both these issues were solved by using a screen (i.e., an enclosure).
  8. Yet another disappointment, then, as temps failed to drop very much at all.
  9. Is that shielded? Because that's considerably lower than any of the PWS I can see in that area on wunderground.
  10. Couple more.. Depth in Stanhope:
  11. Ta Just a tip - there is actually more snow slightly lower down as the wind has stripped a lot from the most exposed locations... that said, you can find sheltered bits with really good snow. The furthest we went was the "Welcome to Teasdale" sign right at the top, and it was close to there (on the way back down), that I took the pics with the snow next to the car.
  12. Get yourself to the Pennines! Between Stanhope and Middleton, today...
  13. ... and just to rub salt in the wounds, look at the centre and south of the uk getting steady snow.
  14. Radar suggests this is fizzling out into a non-event.
  15. The closer it gets the less impressive it looks.
  16. Weird as the radar has nothing anywhere close to Consett!!
  17. I'm afraid it looks like it's fragmenting and weakening, guys. :/
  18. 2 things... 1.. the ppn looks like it is heading slightlyinland still - could it miss the coast (Sunderland area)?? 2... the Pennines will look fantastic for my trip up there tomorrow with a fresh few inches of top up!! :-D
  19. What matters is dewpoints and upper air temps (as well as what feeds in from the sea). An air temp of 2.6, or 3.6 even is neither here nor there if the others numbers are "right": air temps will drop under decent ppn.
  20. The track looks like it's headed slightly inland rather than down the coast - more direct S than SSE.
  21. Come on you little beauty!! Snow and loads of it please - preferably for all of us in the Great Triangle (Newc-Sund-Durham)!! :p
  22. Temp 2.3°C DP -1.7°C That's here in Durham
