  1. Metereological winter is 1 Dec to end of Feb (28 or 29). This is a metereological website and forum AFAIK.
  2. Should be about 5-10 minutes from here... temp not looking great, but hoping it'll fall with the ppn and we'll get snow too.
  3. Looks like something might make it here... but temp has risen to 2.6°C, DP at 0.3°C, so may well not be snow after all this.
  4. What was great was that my 75 year old mother-in-law who's from Venezuela and had never seen snow lying or falling in her life got to see loads - she missed the Nov/early Dec falls, but there were some nice top-ups between then and Christmas, and she even went sledging on Observatory Hill... first time ever... at 75!
  5. And to think that last year we'd've half turned our nose up at this sort of potential snowfall. I was into a "oh, it's snowing again" mode by now!
  6. It's become an obsession! I used to watch a great webcam there (now offline) that was real time and great quality... hell I'd just love to go there for a January... on my way to Ojmjakon (long route).
  7. I'd go for Yellowknife - proper winters but still some semblance of civlisation... they probably even have better summers than us in the NE!
  8. ... and therein likes the flaw in your plan. (Is that a reference to another weather forum? )
  9. June 26 and 27 were hot (28°C here), a shower or two on 26. That was it.
  10. Oh yeah? Have a look at what has happened to them in the last 20 minutes. We do know a LITTLE over here about what happens to ppn as it works its way across the Pennines, you know. There is NO WAY that places in the East will get inches of snow tonight.
  11. Eh? A couple of spots to the south of the region might get a dusting, more like. Tell the paranoid green-eyed monster to go away.
  12. The one that's just going to miss to my south is STRENGTHENING! Bloody typical!
  13. That "middle one" that is behind the others has grown since entering the N. Lakes though... please just a dusting!!
  14. The one to the south is looking more interesting here - but I think it will skirt literally about a mile south of the city - Ferryhill might get it.
  15. I kid you not - the gap is closing between the clumps, but Durham City is right in line for what is left! :S
  16. Doesn't matter anyway as they're dying a death over the hills. I love it in the summer when we're shielded from the rain... but it's a bggr in the winter with a westerly feed!
  17. You see that gap between the clump coming out of Gretna area and the clump over the lakes... the one that's about the size of the gap between north newcastle and south durham?...
  18. I'm talking about the big clump just above Gretna... looks like it's heading almost directly east now... could even miss NEwcastle??
  19. The winds are veering ever more westerly. I reckon that clump will make it.. and that it will end up about a mile north of Durham and we'll miss out. You heard it here first.
  20. More of a westerly element now, at least, so one or 2 of the showers hitting the carlisle/border area might make it through to give us a few flakes!
  21. 50-100cm depth pretty widely I remember - was awesome driving between Stanhope and Middleton, and up towards yad moss was fantastic.
