  1. Yep - think it's a case of a weekend trip with the kids up into Teesdae/Weardale for some proper snow. At least we live within an easy drive of such an area - even if we don't get anything down here, it's not far away.
  2. Hi Paul-Michael. What days/what charts show the most promise for our region?
  3. The nenthead webcam gives you a good idea: http://www.bbc.co.uk/cumbria/content/webcams/nenthead_webcam.shtml
  4. In a gap here in Durham - all around there's snow showers... but nowt here!
  5. As long as it's not the southerners who are getting the white stuff, I'm cool.
  6. Not expecting anything tonight here in Durham. Maybe a few rogue showers around 6am-12am. Nothing like what left my garden chair looking like my pic this time last year!
  7. Unless your humidity is around 100% then that's wrong. That's why I asked about your humidity.
  8. Hi mate. Yep, i come for the regional snow/cold banter and discussion from my normal TWO hideout.
  9. Not sure about that. Durham was badly affected today (yesterday). The roof crushing the cars in Langley Moor; a guy nilled between Barny and Stainmore when a tree fell on his car; numerous trees down; a tree felled the cables on the line at FErryhill causing HUGE disruption to all train services on the ECoast mainline for the rest of the day (I should know, my train was due just after it happened, so it's taken me 9 hours of buses and unorthodox routes to get to Cardiff!).
  10. My hopes aren't high for the sweet peas and broad beans surviving this! EDIT: At least IMBY I wouldn't class this as too bad so far.
  11. A little bit more here, though the max gust on my anemometer - which is only at 4m, though with a fairly clear sight of the SW - is still only 25.5mph.
  12. Will do! I'm meant to be catching a train at 3pm from Durham to Bristol - so I'll be updating till about 2:30, providing the train isn't cancelled. EDIT: Yes it's windy, but apart from that it's a beautiful day now! Clear blue, sunshine, warm!
  13. Not as bad here in Durham - some hefty gusts - only 20mph on my anemometer, but due to its lack of height it usually underreads strong wind by about 10-15mph. Still, nothing too bad so far - expecting it to be worse later, though hoping we are shielded enough here (although we are sort of on the top of a hill (GIlesgate Moor).
  14. It might/will still change a bit, but at this stage I think shifts of 100 miles or so is pushing it.
  15. Did they airbrush out the smashed in co-op cashpoint, racist atmosphere, and cider-swigging kids, then?
  16. LOL... my windgauge is not high enough... which I now think is a good thing! Sheltered garden (with trees that are either evergreen, so used to storms), or too small to reach the house should protect the weatherstation... the risk is deciduous trees - I can see a lot falling in places like Lanchester and the nature reserves around there.
  17. Such as peterf's house in Castleside? ;-) Could be bad along Weardale towards Wolsingham.
  18. LOL... I wouldn't like to be in Tow Law this week that's for sure... mind you... would you EVER want to be there?
  19. Durham is as follows: Sun 11 Sep 1900 14 °C SSW 13 mph 25 mph Moderate 2200 13 °C SSW 12 mph 22 mph Very Good Mon 12 Sep 0100 12 °C S 14 mph 26 mph Moderate 0400 12 °C S 16 mph 32 mph Good 0700 15 °C S 15 mph 27 mph Very Good 1000 16 °C WSW 22 mph 44 mph Excellent 1300 16 °C SW 28 mph 54 mph Excellent 1600 15 °C SW 29 mph 56 mph Excellent 1900 14 °C SW 29 mph 56 mph Excellent Night 10 °C WSW 26 mph 50 mph Excellent Tue 13 Sep Day 16 °C WSW 24 mph 48 mph Excellent Night 9 °C W 18 mph 34 mph Very Good In other words 30mph sustained roughly with gusts at 56mph.
  20. Meaning Co. DUrham in general, Peter? Or up on the higher ground where you are. In my experience, Durham City tends to be be situated in a way that means we don't get the worst winds.
  21. As someone has already said, 50mph gusts over a sustained period, with trees in full leaf and ground saturated (in parts, tbough not too bad here in Durham itself), that can cause damage. Your posts seem to be pretty antagonistic in tone, and I'm not sure why. The Meto are clearly covering their backs - it's not a hanging offence or something that needs to be analysed quite so closely IMO.
