  1. Ooh I say! I am pleased with the result. Would never get the rise of a 3 day sourdough based proper flour Panettone but deeply deeply happy with the -visual- result. Waiting for total cooling before the taste test.
  2. We had a lovely Solstice - we always cook a special dinner and this year it was duck breast. Today I will mostly be making a Panettone cake that only needs 1 day to make, rather than traditional 3. A good baking day I think, as it’s mostly drekky rain today. Have a good day.
  3. Not sure if that would be it for us? We are well north of you and the wind is north westerly so can’t see how that would impact us. But then I know naff all about the subject….
  4. Weird, just mentioned to husband that the sky was a bit angry red looking this evening. Probs is, particles and stuff?
  5. Yes, fantastic shot. Much better than my poor iPhone shots in Chirk this morning
  6. madmod is now focussed on will there or won’t there be a SSW, which indicates that tonight’s -z rollout is dire,… I'm set for anything barring major electricity downage. Wine in, Xmas day food in, logs in, butane canisters for emergency cooker in, candles, batteries. Ibuprofens paracetamol, Imodium, cat food. Knitting yarn, good reading. Even if we don’t have snowmaggedon, bad weather etc etc I’m set and the world can bugger off for a week from Christmas Eve.
  7. There must be some very tiptoe-y family members when the thingy-z’s and ENS rollout as groans or whoops heard from Madmod Dad’s/Taid’s direction…..
  8. Ahhh, new traditions for Christmas. The annual/weekly/daily/thrice daily MADMOD carillon of will it won’t it, will it won’t it. Soon to become a classic Christmas signal together with those crackers - putting your tree and lights up straight after Halloween and buying your children special ‘Christmas Eve’ boxes to open before the day, so they don’t hyperventilate and tantrum out…. oops sorry, my inner Grinchy escaped for a minute there…..
  9. Interesting that. Dry here and wind sounds stronger than it did last night. Not sure whether wind direction different. Thankful that rain has stopped -temporarily.
  10. We had a brief power cut this evening plus a couple of very hefty gusts, but now mostly quiet. Pantsy weather, still large amounts of flooded roads.
  11. Oh joy! Well at least it’s not too bad today and mild, so the various dog walks today should be largely dry. I think, on reflection, lighting the log burner early this morning to ward off the dreckiness outside not perhaps best plan as I am very very very loath to leave fireside comforts of Yule/xmas card writing to yomp up the hills, but it’s gotta be done. Hope all our coastal and hilltop members batten down proverbial hatches this pm and stay safe.
  12. Well it was a poor show earlier…. Just a few bits of teeny tiny snow then gone. Guess precipitation isn’t heavy enough. No matter, at least it’s not going to be so darn cold tonight.
  13. Snow arriving in light dribbles, if snow can possibly do that. After a bitter night and morning temps now around 3c.
  14. Indeed, the snow blob is over Leicester! See folks if you wish hard enough it will come true.
  15. Logs ordered. Sainsburys 6 x 25% off wine offer factored in. Winter duvets on bed. Tender plants in porch, Garlic planting tomorrow. This morning was first ‘scraping frost off car’ Day.
  16. Yes, whatever the weather, nature always stuns up here. Hope you enjoyed your trip. We are in the Ceiriog Valley, just over the hill from Llangollen and, hopefully, in a couple of years, will be part of the North East Wales National Park, which will include the Clwydian and Dee Valley, the Ceiriog Valley, Tanat Valley and Lake Vyrnwy.
  17. A full day of constant rain. Two soaking dog walks and can’t face another, so the pooch has scooted out, pee’d and scooted back. Flooding issues arising again. Ground like a soggy sponge. Luckily, the council dug out the culverts after the farmers had dug out the culverts during the floods not long ago, so even less likelihood of them bursting again.
