  1. Was rainy about an hour ago, now steady snow and everything turning white. Not sure of the temp as my weather station stopped responding at 645 when the temp was 1.9 up from a low of -4
  2. Temp here still -1.6c up from a low of -2.0 despite the wall to wall sunshine. if there is enough snow here tomorrow to build a modest snowman with my 5 year old daughter I will be happy and she will be ecstatic. A couple of cms should do it. The only snow she's experienced was the very thin icy covering we got last Jan from the brief back edge snow and she got really excited then. It's looking tantalisingly close and I think tomorrow is the best chance all the forecasts I've seen for Monday suggest rain. Things keep changing so who knows, going to be a now cast job.
  3. Latest forecast on bbc news with Tomaz S, not sure if it was live or not, showed any snow way to the west of us - Wiltshire/Gloucestershire/Oxfordshire at a guess. He also stated any snow would be transitory. Graphics showed temps of 5 and 6 over our region. Graphics also showed gale force easterlies and heavy rain for us. Yuk. should have said this was for Monday
  4. I see on the radar there's a nice streamer wasting itself in the North Sea. Still I suppose there might be some oil rig workers building a snow man somewhere.
  5. You know what will happen. If you travel it will snow and if you decide not to because of possible snow it won't. So the question is how much do you want it to snow?
  6. You know I always hope in these situations that the forecasts are wrong and we will get heavy snow instead of rain, but they are never that wrong except when snow is forecast and then it doesn't happen obviously. My local forecast on the met office site has increased the maximum temps from 3 to 6 degrees on Sunday now since yesterday. Why does it never seem to go the other way?
  7. I just get the feeling its going to be one of those frustrating situations over the next few days where when it's cold enough for snow i.e. Friday and Saturday it will be dry and when there's lots of precipitation around, i.e. Sunday/Monday it will be just slightly too warm. I'm in the yellow warning area, just, and the track of the low on Sunday is still changing so you never know.
  8. Yesterday the forecast here was far rain only and a max of 6. Today it is for a period of snow before the rain and a mx of 3. Doubt it will be heavy enough or cold enough when the snow arrives to settle, but it's trending in the right direction. I think the gfs showed this possibility a few days ago. Looks like another now cast situation.
  9. Also mentions wintry showers end of the week and staying unsettled into the weekend but with rain pushing west to east across the country. No mention of the S word despite some promising model output.
  10. The BBC Radio Essex forecast just before the 6pm news, read by an actual forecaster, went something like this. Wednesday night very windy, the strength of the wind stopping the temperatures falling too low, -1 the min. A few snow showers perhaps giving a dusting in western parts. Thursday, Friday and the weekend very windy and cold with significant wind chill, mostly dry with the odd wintry shower. Max temps 3 to 4. So not much mention of snow at the moment. The snow showers have to come a long way to reach us so our best chance for any snowfall will come from troughs and disturbances which won't get picker up until nearer the time.
  11. Snowed quite heavily here for about 20mins from about 7:45 this morning. Instantly settled on all surfaces and temp dropped from 1.8c (where it had been most of the night) to 1.1c in a few minutes. Snow didn't last very long, was only a thin covering and melted once it eased off but at least it counts as my first laying snow since March 2013. Temps maxed out at 3.3c today and have now dropped back to 1.7c.
  12. Forecast for here looks poor regarding snow prospects. Even if the precipitation makes it doesn't look like being heavy enough to produce much and max temps are 3 on tuesday and 5 on Wednesday. Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday: Remaining cold throughout. Some patchy rain, sleet or snow likely late on Tuesday into Wednesday. The rest of Wednesday and Thursday with see sunny intervals and wintry showers. Updated at: 0216 on Sun 18 Jan 2015
  13. Disappointing update from the met office. Below is the eastern region one but the national one is similar. Only rather cold and rain or sleet. Somehow I was hoping for better. Outlook for Monday to Wednesday: Rather cold on Monday and Tuesday with sunny intervals, and the odd wintry shower over East Anglia, and with locally severe overnight frost. Rain or sleet clearing east on Wednesday. Updated at: 1450 on Sat 17 Jan 2015
  14. I am at work but the other half confirms there is currently a storm in progress. Not masses of lightning but very heavy rain. Seems to be developing as it moves south west.
  15. Really? It's been blowing a gale here for a couple of hours and its pouring with rain. The wind is howling and there are some really strong gust. I'm only a few miles from you but I wouldn't fancy taking a walk right now. You must be made of stronger stuff than me.
  16. Local forecast on BBC Essex just before 8 this morning - basically snow, snow and more snow. 5-10cm through Friday another 5cms Saturday and more snow Sunday into Monday. All sounds pretty encouraging. No mention of sleet or rain and seemed pretty confident of it reaching here But then I read this on the regional Meto forecast Outlook for Saturday to Monday: Very cold with an ice risk throughout. Windy with further sleet or snow likely Saturday. Winds ease Sunday, mainly dry but rather cloudy. Outbreaks of rain, sleet or snow Monday. Issued at: 0400 on Thu 17 Jan 2013 So forecasts still a bit contradictory. Hopefully the BBC Essex one is right as it should be more up-to-date but who knows!
  17. My local BBC Essex forecast was less optimistic at just before 8 this morning. Maybe 2-3cms in the North of Essex but sleet or rain in the South from the second band early this afternoon. Even the rest of the week was less that impressive with showers being a wintry mix! Not the greatest forecast.
  18. This is the latest warning taken from the met office site for Monday for the East of England, the one for the South East is the same. http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/warnings/#?regionName=ee&tab=map&map=Warnings&zoom=7&lon=0.87&lat=52.30&fcTime=1357905660 Two things I find slightly dissappointing is the fact that is says 5cm's in places, was hoping for more and the fact it says "turning back to rain in places" . Looking at the models it doesn't seem marginal at all for our part of the world but that warning makes it sound very marginal indeed. The last sentance does give some cause for optimism however.
  19. The 3 to 6 day forecast sounds quite encouraging. http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/uk_forecast_weather.html
  20. Just going through chelmsford on the train and it is snowing. Probably 2 or 3 on the Murr scale.
  21. Got down to -5.1c earlier but now back up to -3.9c as it's clouded over. No snow falling here but apart from a bit of thawing in the sun today a pretty deep cover still.
