  1. That's the trouble with having so many epic charts over the last few days, but they have been too far away so more chance of them changing. As soon as someone seems something that means it's not so good for them they trash the whole cold spell for everyone and then more people join in and it just mushrooms out of control. Very frustrating and you can't follow what's going on. There are quite a few members on my ignore list but at the moment I can't add people quick enough!
  2. It was cold, yes, but not much snow here. 5cms on grass and cars on the 23rd I think, but never settled on pavement or roads and melted as soon as it stopped snowing.
  3. Maybe the beeb will be correct, we just don't know yet but it seems odd not to mention the risk. I thought someone posted the other day that they are using a lower resolution version of the ECM, so maybe it's not very good at picking up convection.
  4. See my post from earlier. They have max temps of 4 and 5 early next week for London. The met office has a Max of 2 there on Monday????
  5. Just checked the BBC forecast online for London. Got a bit of a shock. Coldest days next week are Monday and Wednesday with maxes of 4 with temps slowly rising there after. Only just down to freezing overnight and dry throughout. Checked Colchester as well and similar except a couple of degrees colder. I know these are computer generated but seriously what model are they using??? I thought it was the ECM but it can't be with that. Or is it us and the models we are looking at that are wrong? According to the bbc there is no beast just a soft fluffy kitten that hasn't even got its teeth yet.
  6. Last proper blizzard down this way was Jan 82, but we survived. Jan 87 extreme cold and very snowy and there was much drifting but it wasn't until after the snow had stopped that the wind picked up enough to cause drifting. Feb 91 was very cold and very snowy but no drifting that I remember. The charts we are seeing now remind me most of Feb 91. If an 18z GFS style blizzard should occur there would be plenty of warning and authorities would be as prepared as possible. I'm sure people would panic and certain sections of the media would whip people into a frenzy - yes Daily Express I'm looking at you! But people would adapt and pull together and whilst there would undoubtedly be hardship and difficulties we would be ok in the end.
  7. Hopefully there still will be a QTR. Once the SSW happens tomorrow hopefully we will see some dramatic changes in the models for the better, in terms of cold that is.
  8. The met office aren't so keen but I notice that temps have been tending down for Tuesday so just maybe. Their forecast Friday morning mentioned rain or snow for Tuesday but only rain or sleet since. Maybe the morning forecast will mention snow again.
  9. That's a bit at odds with the Met office. Snow over the hills Monday/Tuesday. Milder Wednesday.
  10. Now worries. It's a more positive update which is good. Also some snow chances for the week ahead as well.
  11. Just watched it again. He doesn't say that. He says there are hints with what's going on in the upper atmosphere.....
  12. Looks interesting... Why not straw clutch it's being shown on the models and the BBC I think, although with those graphics it's not really clear, so it's a possibility at least. Might not settle but then again it might. Some of us might get a surprise if a bit of luck is on our side.
  13. Thanks. Don't really watch the sky weather not sure if they are any good or not. None of the TV forecasts seem to be much cop these days, even country file, not like the good old days with the magnetic symbols - showing my age there.
  14. What sort of reputation do the metogroup have does anyone know? Appart from now supplying data to the BBC I've never heard of them. Did they used to be called something else?
  15. Coldest night of the winter so far here in North Essex. -5.8c still -4.6 now.
  16. A patchy dusting here in North Essex. Grey skies, temp just above freezing.
  17. I thought that about the graphics as well. Really zoomed out so it's even more difficult to see what's going on than be before. Almost impossible to tell the difference between cloud and snow. What I thought was a nice area of snow over us in the morning turned out to be mostly cloud with a few small snow showers Bring back the magnetic symbols I say.
  18. Any idea how much they got? Looks like maybe 5cms but difficult to tell.
  19. Yeah that does seem a bit odd maybe they forgot to remove one or the app has cached it.
  20. I haven't studied geography for a while but that doesn't look much like a town to me!
  21. It just means that there are other warnings in force that do not affect the area you are looking at. If you click on them they will expand will show you the warning and the areas they apply to.
  22. I do indeed. That was an amazing event. Ended up with 10cms in a few hours. This is a totally different kettle of fish, unfortunately. That was a very active cold front.
  23. Feels really cold out there. Temp -1.2 D.P. -3 just need some precipitation now.....
