Squabbling, wrist slashing and toys being thrown around - yup, that's the MOD thread right now, and all because of the latest GFS output for six days away ...... Here we are on the brink of at least a few days of very cold weather and snow coming up for many and a few immature folks decide to act like five year olds because they can't enjoy what they have/may have and want more, more, more ............

Model output discussion - here comes the beast!

I suggest reading the following excellent post for clarification on the above: -
If you want copious amounts of snow then the best chance for south Wales is a slow moving and highly active atlantic system bumping into the cold air, pushing north a little then trundling off east or south east. Snow showers and streamers are also possibilities depending on your location (also depends on the wind direction) and anyone in the firing line could get a good dollop from one of those, however they don't look that likely at present. Showers blown all the way over in the strong easterly (or north or south easterly) are also possibilities but often the snow amounts aren't that great once they reach our neck of the woods.

I find that the automated BBC weather forecasts (and even many of the manual ones) aren't worth taking much notice of, particularly now that the met office aren't providing the data. Instead use to the met office site but for the most accuracy stick to this site, particularly the main threads and this regional thread. Also use the assorted radar services.

Actually, if you compare it to the last run the main cold pool is a tad further north. -

That's incorrect. May I very strongly suggest that you read the following post: It's very well written and highly informative. In fact, anyone with the slightest bit of interest in cold and snow would do well to read it. -
Look at the tweet with the graphic and all will become clear.

And peace and harmony descends on the model discussion thread ........... thanks to a lovely ECM at t+168.

No more 'crucial' than the past 24 hours, or the 24 hours prior to that, or the 24 hours prior to THAT ............ in short, the weather is constantly in a state of flux and the computer models are merely running through possible outcomes. They do not make the weather and are often wrong, particularly the further ahead you look. -

Some good advice there, to expand on your link here's the main link to the precipitation charts that I also tend to look at 48 hours in advance: http://www.weatheronline.co.uk/cgi-bin/expertcharts?LANG=en&MENU=0000000000&CONT=ukuk&MODELL=nae&MODELLTYP=1&BASE=-&VAR=prty&HH=6&ZOOM=0&ARCHIV=0&RES=0&WMO= -
Yes I know, it spells out FAKE, hence my reference to Trump ...........

Was it programmed by Trump?

Given the "cheap and not to cheerful" building quality these days I doubt if many modern roofs could be described as "well made". I also don't appear to have any local Japanese navvies in my area, can you suggest a suitable alternative?
-
Whenever you feel like breaking your neck I guess? But seriously, I guess if there's more than 6 inches? Others can no doubt correct me if I'm wrong. As for the car roof, you need to remove it all - don't leave any as it often then flies off onto the windscreen of a following car and you can be fined for doing that. That applies to the rest of the car too: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/snow-clear-cars-fines-points-licence-how-many-aa-a8102236.html First though, a sufficient quantity of snow is required .......
-
I have to ask .......... why???
-
That depends - for example, I both heard it and felt it (at first I was sitting, then standing as I got up to look out of the door to see if a large and very heavy lorry was driving past).
-
It depends on the type of rock that you're on and also what lies between your location and the epicentre. Also, if you're drunk or unconscious you may not feel a thing.
