  1. My weather station still says -3, humidity 66%, dewpoint unsure as it just says LOW (don't think it likes dewpoint calculations much). So we shall see - has certainly livened up a boring Sunday evening though. I haven't got a lampost - will a torch do? C'mon Kernow.....
  2. Well whether it snows here or not - this has been one of the most interesting periods of model/radar/nowcasting for quite a while. Here's hoping......
  3. Pink on the radar over North Devon coast at the mo - any reports? I'm assuming the radar picks up what is in the air - which is not necessarily what will make it to the ground. Is that correct? Still so much to learn!
  4. Ooh getting interesting now with these new model runs. Yet more late night radar watching then! I must say some these snowmen people have made are very smart - mine usually end up looking well-rough so congrats to those with such excellent snow sculpting abilities. Went to the shop and it was 0 degrees - haven't seen those sort of temps for a very long time. Looks like cold air has finally made it here - hope it lasts.
  5. Temps have dipped to 2/3 degrees here today so a significant chill compared to yesterday's 6/7. So I feel a little bit wintry now despite the lack of snow.
  6. Thanks for the updates all - I know most of you are too busy playing to look at the models! Thanks for taking the time to post your thoughts, much appreciated.
  7. Well, Model discussion thread is a bit dead - was wondering what to expect next!
  8. Awww there's nothing worse than losing a faithful pet - at least he had a bit of snow to send him on his peaceful way. 6 degrees here and a sniff of rain. Bit boring really compared to all your tales of snow.
  9. Rain starting to pep up here now - was wondering where it had got to! Quite gusty at times too. Not particularly exciting - wind and rain are par for the course down here. Still, at least it is moving along - brace yourselves. 'Tis Coming.
  10. All this talk of snow - will the rain before it be heavy? Still got a niggling worry about flooding.
  11. 7.7 degrees here - must be due to my proximity to the sea. Bikini is ready for tomorrow.
  12. Right, I burnt my tongue drinking a hot chocolate yesterday therefore I need snow for MEDICINAL purposes only. Will have to get in the car and go find some so I can soothe my pain. Either that or go and lick my fridge freezer and I know which one I'd prefer.... Looks like things could get a bit hairy further up the south west so whilst I'm deeply jealous - I hope the NHS and emergency services cope OK.
  13. Hi Rowie - didn't realise you were up there too! Shame - but I reckon with your elevation you'll get something soon.
  14. Pink blob near Princetown on the radar - you seeing anything interesting Beasty?
  15. Thanks Iceberg and gtltw - I suppose the finer sorts of details are what the Met bods are there for and why sometimes human input is needed. Thanks for explaining - great way to learn. I see some of the rain band over us is a bit sleety further north - you may be on to something gtltw - not bad for an old geezer! You wrap up warm now deary.....
  16. Hmmmm interesting post and I agree with your logic. Do the models not take into account surface temps influenced by snowcover then?
  17. Was wondering - if everyone gets a shed load of snow - would that become a factor in our (Cornish) prospects for any subsequent precip that falls? Ie cold snowfields and fronts from other directions colliding?
  18. Yes, that's where I first look if there's nothing near me. Although once, I had to go to Truro to find the snow - opposite direction!
  19. Liked that vid from the chief - nice to put a face to a name and I thought he explained it well. Well the last sleet icon has gone from the bbc forecast I was looking at last night - rain for Friday for us in Cornwall - unless we get some interesting anomalies. Not surprised - temps haven't gone below 6/7 degrees here for weeks!
  20. The precip that is currently trundling over Cornwall - is that likely to turn wintry as it moves over places that have lying snow? Will Prob. Dissipate before then but quite interesting to follow anyway. I do like a smattering of pink on me radar - even if it is nowhere near me!
