  1. well what can i say ,good times a coming , some realy good charts about but which ones will verify , . i think some where in NW /europe will take a pounding this weekend ,im also fairly confident that some good smaller features will develope . i hope if things turn nasty that everyone stays safe . some very good input on this forum today , regards ,legritter .
  2. morning all ,as i said on last nights post , its those small details which are missing at the moment that could bring us some fun and games come the weekend and next week , so all to play for ,some interesting stuff POSSIBLE ,but not guaranteed .im still researching past winter charts and old diarys ,will post when i find some realistic info . hoping tonights charts start to sing off same sheet . perhaps we can then get stuck into a good constructive model discussion ,regards .
  3. evening all ,iv looked at charts and read some of the talk on other forums etc ,and i have a hunch that next weekend could throw up some surprises . good events can develope from just little features popping up , tonights fax should be interesting and by tuesday night we could be looking at some interesting ,charts for sat/ following tues . i am by no means forecasting a snow fest but there could be some lucky fellow members with a SMILE on their faces . warm seas /colder air . we have certainly moved on since last weekend , im certainly getting more confident of some good things coming out of this winter . regards legritter .
  4. im starting to get into the winter spirit but , things 7/10 days from now could go many ways . iv a nagging feeling that over the next 3/4 days the models could all come in line but the outcome could be not what some of us want . anyhow some interesting weather to come next week ,and someone could get lucky ,those blues arent that far away ,if the plug is pulled , cheers legritter .
  5. it must have been very frustrating for many in wales as many missed out , .but good for those who had streemers etc . the same happened in and around bristol . we did quite well at winscombe but 12 miles north of here not much . lets hope we can all get in on some action this winter , if it comes later it might be more frontal and more even . its realy frustrating sometimes watching the radar across wales and hoping those big red blobs will make it across the water , but they fizzle out well to the N W of cardiff or swansea ,all the best legritter somerset
  6. morning all ,just had a look at charts and other forums , things could get very interesting next week onwards . looking foreward too tonights chat on here . some interesting developments in northern hemisphere at the moment , euro high beware , mother nature could send you packing south ,or replace you with a beast of a relative . we just need a singing from the same hymn sheet , from the models . i think we have a FAIR chance of something more wintry on its way ,regards till later ,legritter .
  7. good post RICHARD 2901, must agree what a boring autumn ,good for heating costs etc .we just neeed some action , looks like you could get some up there . me and the wife toured scotland oct 8th / 21 st ,by car did 2200 miles from somerset and back .had virtually every type of weather ,isle of sky warm ,and blue sky and sea , wester ross magical . left thurso and travelled down to perth ,we were playing catch up with a weather front ,as we got quite high up near cairngorms we went through 5 mins of wet snow ,then rain . following morning we went to clamis castle and could see top of cairngorms covered . went to aberdeen 10 yrs ago ,what a greet country you have up there ,. for all of you out there chins up , plenty of time left for wintry fun .cheers legritter .
  8. euro high go away come back some other day , preferably late spring ,.let your big uncle scandi high rein supreme . let your atlantic cousins form a line and head east , preferably up the channel one week , and a little further north the next .time for my prozack , chins up gang , a good 12/14 weeks anything could happen .regards legritter .
  9. just a quicky from me ,FEB 18TH 1978 , BLIZZARDS ACROSS SW ,and parts of south ,short sharp and certainly disruptive , as i put in recent post very hard for met office to forecast , front came to a grinding stop north of bristol , just a peppering in glos and swindon in parts . also some good snowfalls in 1880 s ,going to finish now as boiling a nice gammon plus need a quick fag , cheers
  10. well it looks like some possible action coming our way from this weekend onwards , all leave cancelled , batton down the hatches , sandbags out , prozack and drinks at the ready , at least the charts have livened up . our way to winter could come with a more mobile set up . but dont forget gang it all could go pear shape , HEARS HOPING cheers legritter
  11. winscombe ,edge of mendips about 7 miles inland .95 mtrs a s l . did very well last yr from heavy streemers off bristol channel about 12cm during daylight in dec and about 8cm overnight from a small low . i prefer a good frontal event , only been at winscombe for 11 yrs , previouse bristol , winscombe did very well in 78/79 with feb 78 seeing a full bliz . 81 very good . also in 63 it did better than bristol as it was closer to lows ,further south . bring it on , regards legritter
  12. having all the information at our fingertips of the POSSIBLE ,synoptic situations 10/ 15 days from now is a godsend . lets all enjoy the UPS AND DOWNS of what is presented to our eyes and put in our thoughts . at the present time im inclined to think that some sort of high will be around in 2 weeks some where in central europe , but thats not to say that the weather will be a mild mush , mild mush can easily become frozen to the bone . going by some charts , the 26th onwards could become interesting .
  13. theres a bit of a story doing the rounds , it goes a bit like this , its been so mild for so long winter is bound to change things , my mother in law says that in her village people are stocking up on firewood and they are buying large bags of salt . it all could be true but as equally not . the weather today is absolute heaven , if anybody is interested theres some good web cams in winnipeg , and theres some good snow about , on some of the cams you can see the occasionall cyoti raiding the rubbish bins . last winter i watched a couple of cyotis having a bust up with a n east canadian wolf in the snow . if you just type in LIVE WINNIPEG WEBCAMS ON GOOGLE AND CLICK ON TOP SIGHT , BUT THERES 1000 S OUT THERE , ALL THE BEST LEGRITTER
  14. certainly looking more interesting from mid week onwards . im tied up looking after older relative at the moment so cant spend too much time on computer , any how , a change looks on the cards , hope it takes us into winter , regards legritter .
  15. just had a look again at johnholmes charts etc , yes todays generall patern was well forecast , cheers
  16. i do apologise if im off topic , but just been up garden for my hourly fag . feels cold , a nice bright jupiter , ok its high pressure and the source is continental , but my question is , 10/15 days ago what was the predicted chart for about now ,im having problems with my old slow computer plus memory on computer is so slow , and if i push it it closes down .im hoping todays continental feed was not forecast back 10/15 days ago ,if this is the case we can look foreward with the hope that winter could be not fat away ,. regards legritter .
  17. just would like to say a thank you to johnholmes for his input . im still working on my weather charts and R M Sc historical records to find out if theres any pointers to this winter , going by mild sep /oct nov , but as i said , there must be thousands of possible scenorios , this morning was a fresh one , a present from the continent . cant wait for tonights runs ,heres fingers crossed , regards legritter .
  18. let the bartlet , plume . better a bartlet now than say dec or january ,lets all take a deep breath and say , we have got back to the winters of old , it can happen again this year , i think we just need to be patient . lets hope this winter throws up some good frontal events . as i said on my other post 12/14 weaks of possibilities , and even a couple of extra weeks for luck , lets hope we all get our wish ,. regards legritter
  19. just had wisdom tooth out , just got back from dentist and decided to cheer myself up , had a quick look at charts 10 / 15 days out ,looking like its going too be hard to predict late november . some good cold coming for those moscovians , and also some canadian territories , lets hope some good cold gets bottled up , and we can tap into some . im currently studying some old charts from my library , looking at mild sep/ oct and nov to see what followed , not guaranteed to give us a clue but i will post if i think interesting , its going to be a painfull modell watch this winter i think, especially after last decembers dream synoptics , perhaps ecm is taking us towards something , next couple of days could tell . atleast we have 12/14 weeks to dream and hopefully get our wishes granted , cheers legritter
  20. thanks LIAM J , I AM GOING TO HAVE A GOOD LOOK AT THOSE CHARTS .

  23. evening all , just been sat outdoors admiring the moon and venus , im testing a battery operated temp gadget i was bought 10 yrs ago , which sends a sig to the house . temp about 12 c , if calibrated right , i would say wind about east , or slightly e/ se , very light .iv been doing some gardening today , must of cut off loads of rosebuds , they can drain a plant this time of year . lets hope we all get our wishes this winter / cheers legritter . its legritter again , i said in my previouse post that i watched the moon and venus tonight ,, i meant moon and JUPITER im of to get my binoculars , cheers ,.
  24. i expect that most of us are hoping for at least 5 weeks of dream charts this winter . at the moment im trying to stay focused on the good pointers . a gut feeling of something of worth this winter . what do i base my instincs on . firstly , many parts of south and other locations low on rainfall , could this be the winter of low pressure running across the south with fronts being squeezed dry . ok the last 3 winters have seen good snowfall for many but not all , look back in history , many good uns come in packs ,with atleast one with a good old high over scandy and lows a plenty over or to our south . although its been mild lately , none of those raging sw winds ,mild wet and v windy , theres a high close by im sure given time ,it will go north for its winter holiday .take a look around the northern hemisphere weather sites , some good cold starting to show up , als night sky a good ink black , when clear , i will also state that i think the met office are a level headed ,trustworthy , and very professional body . i had the great pleasure to be invited to the forecast office in bristol for 4 days in feb 1978 , the amount of dedicated work in trying to forecast a mayor snowstorm which dumped 30cms where i lived . plus blizzards .chart after chart ., phne call after phone call , contacting organisations , etc .i hope all our fellow members on NET WEATHER HAVE A GOOD WINTER / WHAT EVER YOU DREAM FOR THIS WINTER . CHEERS LEGRITTER / FROM A COLD FOGGY DRIZZLY WINSCOMBE , .
  25. i love it when we get a good halo in the winter during a good cold spell . i remember back in 81 / 82 we had a low coming in of the atlantic , it finished up moving east to our south / a cracking snowfall followed in somerset. the halo was very pronounced the night before , as the high level cloud arrived . lets hope its a winter of halo s, lunar and solar . cant wait for some action to start ,the weather and /FELLOW NET MEMBERS /CHEERS LETS HOPE WE ALL GET OUR FAVOURITE WEATHER , AT SOME STAGE THIS WINTER .
