  1. December rainfall stats for Cumbrian stations: Shap 652mm, 302% of average Spadeadam 200mm, 160% of average* Keswick 454mm, 262% of average Carlisle 191mm, 214% of average *Some days have missing data so real figure is almost certainly higher. Just to put things into perspective.. Shap has had more rain so far in December than we've had all year. And, just for comparison's sake, Linton on Ouse (North Yorkshire) has 45mm so far which is 80% of the average. London Heathrow has 23mm which is just 42% of the average. Boulmer, Northumberland has 75mm, 35mm of which fell in one day.
  2. Sun actually came out today, albeit not for very long. Very mild nonetheless but still with intermittent drizzly rain.
  3. Cloudy with some mist patches, 1.6C and calm. Low was -1.4C with a thick white frost this morning.
  4. We had 24mm yesterday in the end.. a very wet day, at least by our standards.
  5. Lol well done. It's -1.4C this morning which is our third or fourth air frost this season.. I forget the number. I'll have to check. First one in December though.
  6. Some local flooding around here, drains haven't coped well. Relative just drove home and reported about 2 feet of standing water. River Aire in Leeds on flood warning. Not surprising considering the river levels are shooting up.
  7. Uh, not quite. It's been exceptionally mild here - only today and yesterday have been remotely cold, and yesterday was the first sub-10C day this month - and that was only 7C, exactly average for December. The average for the entire month until this point is 10C which is 6 degrees above normal. In fact, looking at the stats from Redesdale Camp, it's been very mild there too with 8 out of 12 days having highs above 10C - so I'm not sure the perception matches reality at all.
  8. At least it will all be gone within the next 24 hours - makes me feel slightly better.
  9. Eh, those charts on their own don't look special. It reached 15C here in December 2011.
  10. I was talking about December only, though yesterday had a max of 7C so what I said is no longer true.. lol. Funny how normal temperatures for the time of year can feel so cold after prolonged mildness. We had sunshine though.. which was nice.
  11. You guys will be dead in about 60 years so there's something to look forward to.. well, you are wishing your life away aren't you?
  12. W/SW winds dominate all year, but not to the extent that we're seeing now. Here, we haven't had a single day with a maximum below 10C. No lows below 2C. Mean temperature of 10C. Whichever way you cut it, this is far from ordinary. In fact, it's exceptional.
  13. I saw wasps flying around in late November, though I haven't been paying attention recently. Not only that, but some trees still have leaves.. I was at Sainsbury's recently and some trees in the car park were in full leaf. The past few days have been dry, sunny and mild which is absolutely fine by me. As long as it ain't raining and the sun is shining.
  14. We've had 56 days above 20C here so slightly more than 15% of days this year were above 20C. We had 1 in April, 0 in May, 13 in June, 17 in July, 23 in August and 2 in September. June and August were both around normal, July and September were very disappointing. May was astonishingly bad. Getting 20C in April and October isn't guaranteed every year, but in May it certainly is.. until this year.
  15. Yeah, a petrol station's roof was torn off here. Roads had to be closed.
  16. Yikes, just let my dog out for a quick wee. I heard him crying so I went outside quickly and there was an almighty gust of wind that had blown my bicycle down the path and trapped him.. poor little thing. He's okay though, just shaken up. Probably the strongest wind gust so far today though.
  17. You are wrong though, as a typical December for most of England has 2-4 days of lying snow. Jan and Feb have 2-4 each. Even further south around London has 1-2 days of lying snow.
  18. Indeed. Very average. pretty much what I'd expect.. well, except for the sunshine - very sunny winter.
  19. I'm getting slightly irked by people saying this is perfectly normal for the time of year.. it isn't. December 2014 is actually a good example of a typical December like you say.. we had 13 nights below freezing, 7 days above 10C, a minor snowfall on Boxing Day with highs of around 2-3C but most days falling around 6-9C. That is closer to typical.. but still marginally warmer than average.
  20. No kidding. The shorter days can be a minor inconvenience but unless your entire life revolves around late-evening outdoor activities it isn't the end of the world. It's just 2-3 months of the year - it'll pass in no time. I mean, it's nearly 2016 already!
  21. A few roads closed in Leeds today, including a local one near Sainsbury's due to wind damage. The Pennines are working their magic with the rain however so no issues with the wet stuff here.
  22. Hm, don't like how on the status updates area the post is cut short and you have to visit their profile to read it all.
  23. Well, at least it's not raining anymore. Everyone I talk to is really getting fed up with this never-ending wet, sunless weather that poses no benefit to anyone. Don't care about the temperature, snow or not, mild or cold, whatever - just some dry, sunny weather. Just for a day or two.. please?
