It's dull, it's grey
It's been drizzling all day....
Bring back the hot weather, this is tedious. Can't do anything outside.

Gentle rain here on and off for most of the day, just what the garden ordered, but could we have hot and dry back soon as I've a zillion things to do outside!
Sadly just showers feeding in off the coast with no chance of anything thundery (quelle surprise).

Lightning was more frequent than that over here, NS. It was so good my cat ran off so he could watch it. BTW, he watches fireworks too -- he's a very strange cat!
Yeah, it was more of a coastal thing, I'm surprised part of it managed to limp inland tbh.Β
Cats are weird.

Had a thunderstorm sometime last night, NS: white and bright., so defo wasn't Nadine Dorries. I'm still in shock!
I had a thunder (twice!!) out towards Attleborough way, I did drive out but it was remarkably unnoteworthy apart from the torrential rain, the run off from the fields was extrememly quick, many puddles to splash through!Β

No one awake in East Angular?
Blimey, that's the most lightning recorded in the area this year!

I do wonder whether that feeble effort off the coast will make it as far as, say Thetford and treat me to one or two distant flashes around 3am.Β
Anyway as usual not worth bothering with.

Seeing the flashes from that Ipswich storm! Looks really active!! Making the best of the warm N Sea tempsΒ
Haven't seen anything here and I'm nearer! Maybe Thetford is in the way or something....

Thanks, nicely located! And to add to your statement - agreed, some of us have missed out, but have loved the fact that the bulk of the UK have seen some action. Gutted re IMBY, but al your pics and clips have been just totally amazing!
I'd give several arms to be in Aix right now! Bring on the Tardis....

Agreed! All the cams i found were either pre-recorded or 'located' so far away that you had to wonder if there really was a storm?
Lightning now showing up at Marseilles Old Port (apologies to all those who have had lots of nice storms this year but some of us haven't...)

It was the same the other week as well! It's bonkers around Avignon but can I find a decent live webcam in the area? Nope!
EDIT: I'm hoping it's heading toward Aix and onto Marseilles.

Would love to know! Totally devoid of any storms, thundery showers or heavy rain. Wiki however does quote this area as βSemi Aridβ so certainly a long standing issue. Scientific wiseβ¦ The North Sea? Wind direction? Seems to either be SE, S or SW. Maybe we will get better luck on that rare prevailing West wind because heaven forbid a storm should survive crossing the Iceberg infested cold pool of muck we have to our East.
Thing is, it's been declining since the 1990s (I've lived in Norfolk since 1986). August has traditionally been a reasonably active month historically, occasionally from late July. Plume events usually delivered something, over the last decade or so they have tended to drift eastwards, either into Benelux or grazing the far SE before entering the N Sea.Β At the moment the average number of thunder days (if I was being a bit NIMBY-ish) is at best 2 or 3, and that includes storms 30 to 40 miles away. Storm intensity has also diminished accordingly, with no more than half a dozen flashes of lightning seen in a whole year (again, rarely within in 10 miles).Β
My late father's (as yet unpublished) book on the geographical history of East Anglia, notes "Distinctive features are very helpful in distinguishing one local weather pattern from the others. The fogs and mists at the coasts, the thunderstorms of the boulder clay plateau, the dust storms of Breckland and most striking of all, the flatness of the Fens, encouraging frosts in nearly every month of the year and the famous "Fen blow", now thankfully seldom experienced." (His specialist period was 1700-1850, and draws on such writers as Mary Hardy, who kept a comprehensive weather diary, as well as the Board of Agriculture's reports, among others.Β

I'll have to move, Norfolk is getting worse year on year.
No idea what's fuelling this annual decline in activity.Β

Jeebus, why is central Norfolk (indeed, most of the county plus a large portion of Suffolk) so dreadful these days?
There must be some sort of scientific explanation!

Know what I think, NS?Β I'm absolutely sick to the back teeth with all these promises of rain. Day after day after day in what the 'experts' (Met Office, BBC, Estofex, NW) all insist is the right place to be -- and day after day after day of sweet FA. IMO, thunderstorm warnings are about as useful as snow warnings -- not a lot!
Storms in the S - tick.
Storms in the SW - tick
Storms in the SE - tick
Storms in the NE - tick
Storms in the NW - tick
Storms in the Midlands - tick
Storms in Wales - tick
Storms in Scotland - tick
Now, have a wild guess as to which area is missing from this list....

Beautiful storm in North Norfolk; some very loud claps and hammering rain... beautiful as I slept through the last two!
Β
Seems to have finished now, but had half an hour...good considering the hourly forecast was 0% for thunder or rain lol
Nothing here bar 15 mins of moderate rain. Lightning detector said lightning 7 miles away. Yeah, whatever....
-
Good grief, 5 minutes of quite heavy rain, now someone's turned off the tap again.Β
And of course, 0% chance of ever hearing even the quietest rumble in the distance.
Once again East Anglia fails.Β

Just as with the previous umpteen days, absolutely sod all! The daily layer of cirrostratus is becoming a tad tiresome too. But at least I've started ignoring all the thunderstorm warnings!
