  1. a little out of our area but just picked this up from the sky feed Sirens have sounded in Portland near Weymouth in Dorset indicating that residents need to evacuate. An evacuation point has been set up at the Portland Heights Hotel.
  2. Yes the windy has increased a little here in the past hour Anyone fancy a trip to Bognor tonight then high tide is just before 1am. http://www.tidetimes.org.uk/bognor-regis-tide-times-20140104#axzz2pMumtpmD
  3. Funny how in one part of the country it can be so different to everywhere else and if we didn't have the internet of this forum we would be unaware of what is going on in other areas, We has some rain this morning ast 6am and the wind rose a little however since then we have had blue skys with sunshine and althought he wind is blowing it's nothing to write home about at the moment. Unless things have changed this morning in the models I have a feeling that we may have to wait a very long time to have the first match in the Snow Depth Cup, hopefully this is not going to be the first winter in a good few years where we don't see any snow only rain and wind
  4. Fingers crossed and if it's a frankferter sausage we know it's coming from the east, notice the number of flood warnings are increasing
  5. AS, I certainly hope you are correct in that something colder is on the way as reading the model thread it's very difficult to understand what is going on. You have had a busy day today, up at three in the morning for a couple of rounds and now falling down a hill, suppose you must have had an ASBO placed on you and hence falling down the hill was being bound over to keep the peace. I must start writing cracker jokes and the rain keeps coming down the wind is blowing at 7.7c
  6. You may, however I think you may prefer you Audi to the three wheel type of car Del and Rodney drive. Must admit that it is bit nippy outside tonight once again.
  7. I wonder if it would be possible to have a snow buddy in Canada or the North USA (seem to remember in the days before the internet I had a pen pal at school) we could then use them to measure snow depths for us and use that in the Snow Depth Cup. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-25557032 Anyone know of the Canada weather forum link
  8. First part of the band has gone through and although heavy rain for a while, not much wind to speak of at the moment.
  9. As Cakie said not very nice down that way as can be seen from the Plymouth Hoe web cam at the moment http://bluesound.org/webcam PS A windscreen wiper would be handy on that camera considering all the rain it receives
  10. Yes it appears we have a completely different weather pattern to what we have been used to and I notice the lack of posts in the model thread from certain members and last night there was heated words about using Stat or Trop in the thread and a few got in a right old Strop . Just had a heavy shower go through and awaiting the next frontal band which looks pretty heavy if it holds together as it crosses the county, mild this morning at 8.4c. Keeping the faith in respect of snow, we never had anything here until around the middle of January this year (2013).
  11. CK congratulations on the new addition to the family and so sorry to hear the news about your next door neighbour and hopefully one of those stars is for her. I always tell my children when walk talk about my nans and uncles who are no longer here that they are waving from the sky. Look I have to get the tissues now
  12. I might have to amend that to chocolate eclaires in the limited edition tins of Cadbury's heroes which everyone seems to have. See we are not posh enough for those tins north of the Thames apart from the TOD area when they go missing as soon as they appear on the shelves
  13. Some of these gusts since the front moved through are really powerful. I have just watched my rainfall reading move up whilst the sun is out and now realise that the strength of the wind is causing the pole to vibrate where the rain gauge is attached and this is causing the counter balance to move inside the unit. Maybe if I move it to the roof of the garage that will make the storms go away and bring the winds from the east:) Hi Tom, yes making sure the Snow Depth spreadsheets are still working an available for the start of winter
  14. Agree with that Coast after last weeks effort of paper flying down the road, they are just rubbish nowadays
  15. The rain has just started here in the past hour (0.9mm)and the wind is just starting to get up a little, just had a gust of 15.9mph
  16. Yes looking at this web cam shows it's not nice on the coast http://bluesound.org/webcam
  17. A few weeks ago when you put your mouse over certain ones it explained what they were, just wondered if this has been switched off or have I done something Edit: Sorry just noticed its there for the ECM so presume that the others above are not in the look up file.
  18. Thanks John, i have a feeling that come late January you will be feed up repeating the words "winds from an easterly direction and will it ever change"
  19. Just walked home from friends and there is frost on the ground a number of puddles were iced up, temperature is rising and will clear before the rain arrives later.
  20. Anyway back on topic is it true that when the warm front comes through it will get a little moggy
